What is TerraBlender?

TerraBlender is included in this pack as version 4.1.0.5, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it's a long-standing piece of the mod list.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what TerraBlender does, so I'm not going to guess. They also don't show any quests, recipes, configs or ATM Star path steps tied to this mod. Treat it as a background dependency for now, and check back once more details can be confirmed.

How do you get started with TerraBlender?

2 parts

Unverified The sources for this guide show no recipes, items or quests for TerraBlender, so there is no confirmed first item to craft and no crafting order to give.

What the pack does give us is the mod's config file. That is the one place to look when you want to know how TerraBlender is set up here. The first thing worth knowing is that the file covers biome regions from each mod that uses TerraBlender, in the Overworld, the Nether and the End.[2]

Overworld and Nether settings

End settings

The End has its own biome size options. In this pack, end.island_biome_size is 2, end.edge_biome_size is 3, and both end.highlands_biome_size and end.midlands_biome_size are 4.[2]

The weights for the vanilla End biomes are all set to 10 here: end.vanilla_end_highlands_weight, end.vanilla_end_midlands_weight, end.vanilla_end_barrens_weight and end.vanilla_small_end_islands_weight.[2]

Tip: These are the values the pack ships with, so check them in config/terrablender.toml before you change anything. The file's own comments only describe each option as a size or a weight, so I can't say more about how a change will play out.[2]

How does TerraBlender work?

3 parts

Here's the thing to know up front: the sources I have for TerraBlender in this pack only cover its config file. They don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation, so there is nothing to explain on those topics here. What the config does show is how the mod handles biome placement, and that's what this section covers.[2]

Overworld and Nether regions

The general settings cover the Overworld and the Nether. general.overworld_region_size sets the size of Overworld biome regions from each mod that uses TerraBlender, and the pack sets it to 3. general.nether_region_size does the same for the Nether, and the pack sets it to 2.[2]

Vanilla gets its own weighting too. general.vanilla_overworld_region_weight and general.vanilla_nether_region_weight set the weighting of vanilla biome regions in the Overworld and the Nether. The pack sets both to 10.[2]

End biome sizes

The End has a size setting for each of its zones. These are the pack's values:[2]

Vanilla End weights

Each vanilla End biome type also has a weight, and the pack sets all four to 10. They are end.vanilla_end_barrens_weight for End barrens, end.vanilla_end_highlands_weight for End highlands, end.vanilla_end_midlands_weight for End midlands, and end.vanilla_small_end_islands_weight for small End islands.[2]

Tip: If you want to change how big biomes feel or how much vanilla terrain shows up, these config options are the place to look. They are the only settings the pack's config file lists for this mod.[2]

Unverified How these weights compare with the regions that other mods add, and any in-game behavior beyond what the config descriptions say, is not confirmed by the sources I have.

Which TerraBlender config options matter?

2 parts

TerraBlender is a library mod that lets other mods add their own biomes to the Overworld, the Nether and the End. Its config file is short, and the options you're most likely to care about control how big those biome regions are and how heavily vanilla biomes are weighted. Here is exactly how this pack sets them.[2]

Overworld and Nether

The End

The End has its own biome size options, one for each part of the dimension.[2]

The vanilla End biome weights are all set to 10. That covers end.vanilla_end_barrens_weight, end.vanilla_end_highlands_weight, end.vanilla_end_midlands_weight and end.vanilla_small_end_islands_weight.[2]

Unverified The sources only show the values this pack uses, not TerraBlender's own defaults, so it is unverified which of these options the pack changed from the mod default.
