What is Simply Light?
Simply Light is in the pack at version 1.4.6+1.21-b53 (file simplylight-1.4.6+1.21-b53.jar). It has been part of the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Simply Light adds, who it is aimed at, or how it fits into the pack's progression. I also have no confirmed recipes, config options or quests for it, and no guidebook, so I'm not guessing at any of that. I'll fill this in once there is something to back it up.
How do you get started with Simply Light?
5 parts
Simply Light adds decorative lights that you craft and place. Everything below is a crafting-table recipe, and the recipe blocks show exactly what this pack uses. Here's the order I'd make things in.[2]
Start with the Simple Light Bulb
Make the Simple Light Bulb first. It's the most basic light in the mod, and you can place it in any direction, so floors, walls and ceilings all work.[2][3]

Dynamic Edge Lights for hallways
Next, make the Dynamic Edge Light (bottom). It follows the walls around it, which makes it great for hallways. It morphs to fit the blocks around it when you place it, and that shape stays afterward. That means you can use temporary blocks to build the shape you want.[2][3]

There's also a top version, Dynamic Edge Light (top). You get it by putting the bottom version in the crafting grid, and the bottom one has its own recipe to turn it back.[2]
Illuminant Blocks
Then craft the Illuminant Block. The pack also has an inverted variant, Illuminant Block(Inverted), with its own recipe.[2]

Recipe id: simplylight:illuminant_block_on
If you've already made one version, you don't have to craft the other from scratch. A toggle recipe turns the normal block into the inverted one, and another turns it back.[2]

Colors
There are colored Illuminant Blocks too, such as Illuminant Blue Block and Illuminant Orange Block. You make them by dyeing a lamp you already have. A normal lamp gives you the normal colored block, and an inverted lamp gives you the inverted colored block. Each color follows the same pattern, so here's blue as an example.[2]

Slabs and panels
The Illuminant Slab is a simple half-slab light, and the Illuminant Panel is a simple LED panel light. Both can be placed in any direction. The panel is crafted from the slab.[2][3]

Unverified The slab's own recipe wasn't in the sources available, so check it in-game. The same goes for the lamp post, rod lamp and wall lamp, which have descriptions but no confirmed recipes here. What "inverted" does to a block's behavior is also unconfirmed, only that the recipes exist.
How does Simply Light work?
3 parts
Simply Light is a lighting mod, and the sources for this pack only describe how the individual lights are placed and how they swap between variants. They don't cover machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation, so this section stays short.[2][3]
Placement behavior
- The simple light bulb (Simple Light Bulb) can be placed in any direction. The rod lamp, LED panel light and half-slab light can be placed in any direction too.[3]
- The wall lamp hangs from walls, or sticks to ceilings and floors.[3]
- The lamp post is 3 blocks tall, and only the top block emits light.[3]
Dynamic Edge Lights
The Dynamic Edge Light (bottom) and Dynamic Edge Light (top) follow the walls around them, which makes them a good fit for hallways. They morph depending on the blocks around them at the moment you place them.[3]
After placement the shape persists, so you can build a shape with temporary blocks, place the light, then remove the temporary blocks and the light keeps its shape.[3]
The bottom and top versions convert into each other with a shapeless crafting recipe, so you can switch one for the other without spending any extra materials.[2]

Illuminant blocks and their Inverted versions
Illuminant blocks come in several colors, such as Illuminant Block, Illuminant Blue Block and Illuminant Black Block. Each one has an Inverted counterpart, for example Illuminant Block(Inverted).[2]
You switch between the normal and Inverted version with a shapeless crafting recipe, and you can switch back the same way. Every color has its own pair of toggle recipes.[2]

You can also recolor a lamp in the crafting grid. Each color has a dyed recipe for the normal version and another for the Inverted version.[2]

Unverified The sources don't explain what the Inverted variants actually do in-world, for example how they react to redstone. They also don't cover any power, fluid or automation features, and no config files for this mod were found in the pack.
How do you progress through Simply Light?
4 parts
Simply Light doesn't have tiers in this pack. It's a decorative lighting mod, and every item is crafted by hand from vanilla-style materials, with no machines or multi-step chains. So the progression here is a simple order of what to craft first and what builds on what.[2]
Unverified No quests in this pack involve Simply Light, and it isn't on the ATM Star quest path. There is no questline to follow, so the order below comes from the recipes alone.
Step 1: the basic lights
Start with the Simple Light Bulb, the Dynamic Edge Light (bottom) and the Illuminant Slab. All three use a glowstone-and-stone style crafting grid, so you can make them as soon as you have glowstone.[2]

Recipe id: simplylight:illuminant_slab
The Dynamic Edge Light (bottom) and the Dynamic Edge Light (top) are two placements of the same light. You can swap between them with a shapeless craft in either direction, so you only need to make one.[2]
Step 2: Illuminant Blocks
The Illuminant Block is the main full-block lamp, and every colored variant is built from it. Its recipe also uses redstone dust, so it comes slightly after the basic lights.[2]

Recipe id: simplylight:illuminant_block
The Illuminant Block(Inverted) is the inverted version. It has its own recipe, and you can also convert between the two states with a one-item shapeless craft. Every colored lamp has the same toggle recipe, so you never need to rebuild a lamp just to flip it.[2]
Crafting Shaped

Step 3: colors
Colored lamps aren't crafted from scratch. You combine a matching dye with any lamp in the right state. Lamps that are off and lamps that are on each have their own dyed recipes, so you can recolor whichever kind you already have. The colors covered include black, blue, brown, cyan, gray, green, light blue, light gray, lime, magenta, orange, pink, purple, red and yellow, plus white for the plain block. The Illuminant Red Block is one example.[2]

Step 4: shaped pieces
The Illuminant Panel is made from the Illuminant Slab, and you can turn it back into a slab with a shapeless recipe. The Illuminant Column, shown in game as the Illuminant Column, builds on lamps you've already made, so it makes sense to craft it last.[2]
