What is Simple Backups?
Simple Backups is a small utility mod that does exactly what the name says: it creates scheduled backups of your world in the background while you play.[1]
It gives you control over how much space those backups take. You can set how many backup files to keep, and you can also cap the total storage they're allowed to use. Once you hit either limit, the oldest backups get deleted automatically, so your drive doesn't slowly fill up with months of old saves.[1]
This pack ships version 1.21-4.0.7, and it's been part of the pack since a very early build.[2]
There's nothing to craft, unlock or progress here. The mod adds no items or blocks you'll interact with, it isn't tied to the ATM Star path, and no quests in this pack involve it. It just sits in the background protecting your save file, which is exactly what you want from a modpack this large.[1][2]
How do you get started with Simple Backups?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Good news: Simple Backups is a set-it-and-forget-it mod. Its job is to create scheduled backups of your world, so there is no long crafting chain to get through before it's useful.[1]
What the mod does for you
- It creates backups on a schedule, so you don't have to remember to do it yourself.[1]
- You can define how many backups should be kept.[1]
- You can also define the maximum amount of storage the backups may use. When limits are reached, the oldest backup files are deleted first.[1]
Your first steps
- Install the mod on the server. It works server-side only, so players don't need to do anything on their end.[1]
- Decide how many backups you want to keep. More backups means more restore points to go back to.[1]
- Decide on a storage cap so backups never eat your whole disk. Because the oldest files are deleted first, you always keep the newest ones.[1]
Unverified I couldn't confirm any craftable items, quests, in-game tooltips or config option names for this mod in this pack, so there are no recipes to show here. Check the mod's config file on your server to see the exact settings and defaults the pack uses for the schedule, backup count and storage limit.
How does Simple Backups work?
3 parts
There are no machines, multiblocks or power systems here. Simple Backups runs quietly in the background and does one job: it creates scheduled backups of the world.[1]
Scheduled backups
The mod's whole purpose is to create backups on a schedule, so your world gets saved copies without you remembering to do it manually.[1]
Retention: count and storage limits
Backups are kept under two kinds of limits. You can define how many backups should be saved, and you can define how much storage may be used at most. When a limit is reached, the oldest backup files get deleted to make room.[1]
- A maximum number of backups to keep.[1]
- A maximum amount of storage the backups may use in total.[1]
- Oldest-first deletion once either limit is hit.[1]
Unverified The pack ships no config file for this mod, so the exact backup interval, retention count and storage cap in use here could not be confirmed from the available sources. Check your server's generated config folder for the values actually running.
Server side only
This mod can be used on server only, so it is the server (or the integrated server behind your singleplayer world) doing the work. There is nothing to install or interact with on a client that joins a remote server.[1]
Which Simple Backups config options matter?
Simple Backups is exactly what the name says: a mod that makes scheduled backups of your world. Its settings let you decide how many backup files are kept and how much total storage the backups are allowed to use, and once you pass those limits the oldest backup files get deleted automatically.[1]
One thing worth knowing up front: this mod is meant to run on the server side only, so it is the server owner (or you, if you're hosting the world yourself) who controls these settings rather than each individual player.[1]
Unverified The pack does not ship a config file for Simple Backups, so we can't confirm any specific backup interval, backup count or storage cap from the pack files. Whatever the mod's own defaults are, that's what you're running until you change it yourself on your server.
What changed in Simple Backups between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 2.11 ships Simple Backups 1.21-4.0.7. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier. I don't have any pack changelog entries for this mod, so what follows comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]
Changes in the mod's own releases
- 1.21-4.0.4: Traditional Chinese (zh_tw.json) translation added, contributed by dirtTW.[3]
- 1.21-4.0.6: a tick counter option was added, by MelanX. The changelog doesn't say more about how it works, so check the mod's config in your instance for details.[4]
- 1.21-4.0.7: Japanese translation added, contributed by Konuma Takaki. This is the version your pack runs.[2][5]
Nothing in these entries mentions a change to how backups behave in the pack. They cover a new option and two language files.[3][4][5]
