What is Moog's Structure Lib (moogs_structures)?

2 parts

Moog's Structure Lib is a library mod for the Moogs Structure series. It provides flexible, data-driven structure generation systems that other mods build on, so it is a background dependency rather than something you interact with directly.[1]

If you're a mod developer, you add it as a dependency and use its structure types and placement systems. It includes a complete barn structure as an example that demonstrates how to use all the features.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships version 3.3.1, the NeoForge build for 1.21.1 (MoogsStructureLib-neoforge-1.21.1-3.3.1.jar). It has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 4.13 or earlier.[2]

The mod works on NeoForge and can also be installed server-side only. Forge support was dropped after 1.20.4, which doesn't matter here because the pack uses the NeoForge build.[1][2]

Quest book

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest chapter, group or ATM Star path entry for this mod. Check the pack's quest book in game if you want to see where it sits.

How do you get started with Moog's Structure Lib (moogs_structures)?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

There's nothing to craft here, and that's the first thing to know. Moog's Structure Lib is a library mod that gives other mods data-driven structure generation systems to build on, so it isn't something you play with directly.[1]

In this pack there are no quests involving the mod and no recipes that produce its items. That's why this section has no recipe blocks: there's no in-pack recipe to point you to.[1]

What to do first

  1. Don't go looking for an item to make. The mod is a dependency for other mods in the Moog's structure series, and it works behind the scenes.[1]
  2. Explore the world as normal. Structures that rely on this library are generated by the mods that use it, so you find them while exploring.[1]
  3. If you run a server, the mod can be installed server-side only.[1]

Structure rarity

The mod does have rarity settings. Its config text says one option multiplies the spacing of every Moog's structure, where a higher value means rarer structures and a lower value means more common ones. There's also a per-mod version that multiplies the spacing of every structure from one specific mod.[3]

Unverified The config file name, the default values and any changes this pack makes to the rarity settings couldn't be confirmed, so check the config files in your own instance before changing them.

How does Moog's Structure Lib (moogs_structures) work?

3 parts

This one is different from most mods on the wiki: Moog's Structure Lib is a library, not a tech or machine mod. The project page describes it as a library mod for the Moogs Structure series that provides flexible, data-driven structure generation systems for other mods to build on.[1]

So there are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item handling to automate here. The sources describe nothing of the kind, and I won't invent any. What the mod does is generate structures in the world.[1]

How it works

Developers add the library as a dependency and use its structure types and placement systems. The project page says the mod includes a complete barn structure example that shows how to use all the features.[1]

It can also be installed server-side only, which is handy to know if you run a server for friends.[1]

Structure spacing and rarity

The mod's own text describes a universal rarity setting that multiplies the spacing of every Moog's structure. Higher means rarer and lower means more common. There is also a per-mod version of that setting, which multiplies the spacing of every structure from a given mod.[3]

This pack has no config file for the mod, so I can't confirm where, or whether, you can change those rarity values here.[3]

Structure tags

The mod's jar ships two worldgen structure tags, no_basalt and no_delta. Both list the same set of structures, such as mns:mega_fortress, mns:nether_tower, mns:nether_wart_farm and mns:ruined_portal, plus many arenas, houses and bridges. Both tags are set to not replace existing entries.[4][5]

The sources don't spell out exactly how these tags are used in game, so treat their effect as unconfirmed.[4][5]

Tip: No recipes in this pack produce items from this mod, so there is nothing to craft. If you want to see what it adds, go out and explore for structures.[1]

How do you progress through Moog's Structure Lib (moogs_structures)?

Moog's Structure Lib has no tiers to climb. What the sources show is worldgen data: two structure tags, no_basalt and no_delta, which list exactly the same set of structures. They include bridges, arenas, houses, towers, shrines, skulls, wells and a mega fortress, and many have Nether-style names like blackstone, nether brick, crimson and warped.[4][5]

Both tags are set to add to existing tag contents rather than replace them, so they only append to whatever else is in those tags. What the pack does with them in play is not covered by the sources.[4][5]

Unverified No pack quests, crafting recipes or tier breakdown for this mod could be confirmed from the available sources, so there is no progression path to follow for it here.

What changed in Moog's Structure Lib (moogs_structures) between versions?

2 parts

Moog's Structure Lib is the shared library behind Moog's structure packs. The pack currently ships version 3.3.1 on NeoForge 1.21.1. It was first included in All the Mods 10 4.13 or earlier, and the 4.13 changelog lists it as newly added.[2][6]

Versions across pack releases

  • 4.13: added at version 1.0.1-1.21-1.21.1.[6]
  • 5.2: updated to 1.1.0-1.21-1.21.1.[7]
  • 7.0: updated to 2.0.2.[8]
  • 7.1: updated to 3.0.0, the same release that moved MoogsNetherStructures to 3.0.0.[9]
  • 7.2: updated to 3.0.3.[10]
  • 8.1: updated to 3.1.2.[11]
  • 8.2: updated to 3.3.1, alongside MoogsNetherStructures 3.1.1 and MoogsEndStructures 2.1.1.[12]

What changed in the mod itself

The 1.1.0 release added a version-aware single pool element, so structure packs can pick the right NBT per Minecraft version. It also added the /moogs_structures debug command for toggling runtime diagnostics.[13]

Version 2.0.2 was a big fix pass. Structures no longer sometimes generate the same layout every time, and they spawn in or near water and lava less often when they shouldn't. Spawn height is more accurate, so fewer structures float or sink into terrain. Overlap detection and collision checks were also improved, which helps world generation performance.[14]

Version 3.0.0 was the largest feature update. It brought in a set of structure processors, including ones for pillars, spawners, trial spawners, vaults and armor stands. It also added datapack-driven per-piece spawn counts so rare pieces stay rare, an entity processor framework, and enhanced terrain adaptation. Basalt and delta suppression came in too, via the no_basalt and no_delta structure tags. Nether jigsaw structures got a size cap of 128 pieces and a FIXED_HEIGHT land search direction. A /moogs_structures debug keepjigsaws command lets you inspect jigsaw blocks in placed structures.[15]

Version 3.0.3 fixed a worldgen crash on chunk generation. It happened when another mod's beardifier or density function mixin invalidated an iterator mid-use, and it was reported with Terralith installed.[16]

Version 3.1.2 fixed a possible crash during world generation or /reload when a structure with piece-count limits was placed on several threads at once. Armour stands and other structure entity processors now generate correctly on every loader. Structures with item frames, glow item frames, paintings or leash knots no longer spam "invalid position" errors into the log, as long as the piece is placed through one of the library's own pool element types.[17]

Tip: If you make structure packs, pieces that still use vanilla's single pool element keep logging those errors. You can opt a piece in early by adding moogs_structures:hanging_entity_anchor_processor to its processor list.[17]

The newest version, 3.3.1, fixes a server freeze. It happened when a structure placed a wandering trader or villager whose trades include an explorer map, such as Moog's Voyager Structures' carts alongside Repurposed Structures. Trades are now rolled when the trader is first used instead of during world generation.[18]

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as moogs_structures, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
