What is Waystones?
1 part
Waystones adds waystone blocks that you can return to once they've been activated. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop from one to another. It's a handy alternative to /warp and /home commands, whether you're in survival, on an adventure map or on a multiplayer server.[1]
The mod also gives you craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls, and a waystone structure that can show up in villages. Waystones can be made global, so every player can use them, which is great for community hubs or sharing with friends. There is also an optional, configurable teleport button in your inventory that lets you warp without any extra items.[1]
This pack ships Waystones 21.1.24 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been in the pack since version 1.0 or earlier. The mod needs Balm installed alongside it.[1][2]
Where it shows up in the quest book
In the shown part of the quest book, Waystones appears in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts. The quest "Getting to The End" quest suggests taking a Waystone with you so you can teleport between the Overworld and The End much more easily. That quest comes right after "Crushed Endstone" quest, which itself follows the chapter's opening quest "The Cool Parts" quest.[3]
None of the quests shown for that chapter has its own Waystones task. The chapter has 75 quests, and the text of 49 of them isn't included here, so check the quest book itself for anything else it says about this mod.[3]
How do you get started with Waystones?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.4 guide
Waystones lets you set up a teleport network across your world. Once you activate a waystone, you can come back to it later with a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from one waystone to another. It's a great survival alternative to /home and /warp commands, and waystones can even be made global so everyone on a server can use them.[1]
Step 1: Craft a Warp Stone
Your first real goal is the Warp Stone. It's the key component of the mod: every waystone, sharestone and portstone in this pack is crafted with one. It's also a handheld teleporter. Hold right-click to charge it up and warp.[1][4][5]

Step 2: Place your first Waystone
Next, turn a Warp Stone into a Waystone and put it at your base. That gives you a permanent point to return to from anywhere. Build a second one somewhere you visit often, and you can travel between them.[1][5]

If you want a different look, there are decorative versions too: the Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Deepslate Waystone, Black Waystone and Ender Waystone. You can also turn a regular Waystone into a Mossy Waystone later instead of crafting one from scratch.[5]
Upgrade an existing Waystone to the mossy style
Step 3: Make some scrolls
Scrolls are cheap teleport items you can carry with you. A Blank Scroll can be used on a waystone to bind it. The Warp Scroll lets you return to your activated waystones without needing a Warp Stone. To use a scroll, hold right-click to charge it up.[1][4][5]

Later on: Sharestones and Warp Plates
- Sharestones come in dye colors, and each one teleports you to any other sharestone of the same color, like a Blue Sharestone linking to other Blue Sharestones.[4][5]
- Portstones also come in dye colors, starting with the plain Portstone, and they're crafted from a Warp Stone as well.[5]
- The Warp Plate works differently. Instead of holding right-click, you stand on top of it to teleport. It's built from Warp Dust and a Dormant Shard, so craft the dust first.[4][5]

Warp plates use shards to link up. The shard tooltips tell you to insert the shard into a warp plate, then bring it to another warp plate.[4]
Unverified This pack's settings for teleport XP costs, cooldowns, the optional inventory teleport button and village waystone generation could not be confirmed, so check in-game how these behave. It's also unconfirmed exactly how a Dormant Shard becomes the attuned shard used by warp plates, and what the Return Scroll and Deepslate Shard do.
How does Waystones work?
10 parts
Waystones is a teleportation mod, so there is no power, fluid or multiblock setup to learn here. The mechanics are about how a waystone gets activated, who can see it, how you travel to it, and what the pack charges you for the trip. Here is how that works in this pack.[1]
Activating and travelling
A waystone is a block you can return to once it has been activated. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll or a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping to it from an existing waystone. A Blank Scroll is used on a waystone to bind it.[1][6][7]
Crafting Shaped

Scrolls and warp stones both charge up while you hold right-click. In this pack, general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are both set to 32 ticks. Warp plates work differently: you stand on top of one, and general.warpPlateUseTime is set to 15 ticks.[6][8]
Waystone variants
Besides the regular waystone, the pack has Mossy Waystone, Black Waystone, Deepslate Waystone and Ender Waystone. The sources only show their recipes, so treat them as different looks for the same kind of block.[7]

Sharestones and portstones
Sharestones come in dye colours. Each one teleports you to any other sharestone of the same colour, for example Blue Sharestone to any other Blue Sharestone. The pack's visibility options also include a sharestone entry for each colour.[6][8]

| any blue dye | any blue dye | |

Portstones are the one-way version. The tooltip says a portstone can not be teleported to, so use it as a departure point only. Blue Portstone is one example.[6][7]

Visibility and editing
general.defaultVisibility is set to ACTIVATION here. That means a waystone is only available to you once you have activated it. Setting it to GLOBAL would make newly placed or found waystones global by default.[6][8]
general.allowedVisibilities is empty in this pack. Per the config comment, you would add GLOBAL there to let every player create global waystones.[6][8]
general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER. Only the owner of a player-placed waystone can edit it, and everyone else sees the message that the waystone cannot be edited.[6][8]
Warp plates and shards
Warp plates use shards. A Dormant Shard is inserted into a warp plate to attune it, and a Deepslate Shard is inserted to lock it. An attuned shard can be brought to another warp plate. Its tooltip warns when it will be consumed on the next teleport, and another says when it has lost its attunement.[6][7]
Costs and cooldowns
In this pack, teleports.enableCosts is false, which turns off all XP costs. teleports.enableCooldowns is true, so cooldowns are active.[6][8]
The pack still ships a teleports.warpRequirements list, and it is applied in order. Since costs are disabled, the XP rules below only matter if you turn costs back on.[6][8]
- Within one dimension, the XP cost scales with distance at 0.01 per unit.[8]
- Travelling between dimensions adds a flat 27.[8]
- If the source is a warp plate, or the target is global, the cost is multiplied by 0.[8]
- The total is clamped between a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 27.[8]
- Teleports started from the inventory button add a cooldown of 300. The sources don't state the unit.[8]
teleports.enableModifiers is true in the pack. That enables warp modifier items, which apply status effects on teleports. The sources don't list which items those are.[8]
Taking mobs along
teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs teleport with you. teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so pets stay behind. teleports.entityDenyList contains only the wither, so it can't be teleported as a pet, a leashed mob or on a warp plate.[6][8]
Inventory button
The mod can add an inventory button that warps without any item. inventoryButton.inventoryButton can be NONE, NEAREST (teleport to the nearest waystone), ANY (open the selection menu) or a specific waystone name.[1][6]
Finding waystones in the world
Wild waystones generate roughly every 25 chunks, set by worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones. The allow list covers the Overworld, the Nether and the End. Their look follows the biome, because worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME. Villages can also get waystones, since worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, meaning some villages, but only vanilla or supported ones.[6][8]
Names come from worldGen.nameGenerationMode, which is PRESET_FIRST. The preset list is empty and the template is {MrPork}, the default name generator, so you get generated names.[6][8]
Map integration
BlueMap and Dynmap markers for waystones and sharestones are enabled, and so are JourneyMap waypoints for each activated waystone. compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is also on. When it is on, the waypoints are only created if the JourneyMap Integration mod isn't installed.[6][8]
How do you progress through Waystones?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.4 guide
Waystones doesn't have a quest line to follow here, so your progression comes from the crafting chain itself. The good news is that every Waystones recipe in this pack is the mod's own recipe. You won't hit any surprise pack tweaks, and the recipe cards below show exactly what you need.[5]
Unverified No pack quests were found that cover this mod, so there is no confirmed quest-based order or reward for any of these items.
Step 1: Warp Dust and the scrolls
Your first real crafting target is Warp Dust. It feeds straight into Dormant Shard, and both of those go into the Warp Plate. That makes Warp Dust the starting point for the whole plate branch.[5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: waystones:warp_plate
The scrolls sit on their own little branch and don't need any other Waystones item. You can craft a Blank Scroll, a Return Scroll and a Warp Scroll directly.[5]

The Deepslate Shard is another standalone shapeless craft that doesn't use any other Waystones item.[5]
Step 2: The Warp Stone
The Warp Stone is the key item of the mod. Every Waystone, Portstone and Sharestone recipe in the pack uses one, so it's worth crafting a few once you have the materials.[5]

Step 3: Waystones and their stone styles
With a Warp Stone in hand you can craft the regular Waystone. Several decorative stone versions also each take a Warp Stone.[5]

Step 4: Portstones and Sharestones
Portstones and Sharestones also use a Warp Stone, and each one takes a dye that sets its color. Any dye matching the color tag works, so modded dyes should be fine too. The white version of the Portstone is just called Portstone. Here's that one as an example.[5]

Other colors, like waystones:red_portstone, swap in a different dye.
Sharestones follow the same idea, with a colored recipe for each dye. Blue Sharestone is shown below. The recipe dump lists no white Sharestone, so plan on one of the dyed colors.[5]

Unverified What each item actually does in play, such as how scrolls, Portstones, Sharestones and Warp Plates teleport you, plus any costs or cooldowns, could not be confirmed for this pack.
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Waystones?
2 parts
Waystones only shows up once in the pack's quest book, and it's as a tip rather than a task. You won't find a quest that asks you to craft or place one. The mention sits in Chapter 2, "The Cool Parts", which has 75 quests.[3]
Getting to The End
The mention is in "Getting to The End" quest. The quest asks you to hand in an End Cake (End Cake), which teleports you to The End. The quest text recommends taking a Waystone along so you can teleport between the two dimensions much more easily.[3]
The text says The End is perfectly normal compared to Vanilla. A Waystone is a handy way to get back home without making the trip on foot.[3]
Where it sits in the chapter
- The chapter opens with "The Cool Parts" quest, and many quests branch off it.[3]
- "Crushed Endstone" quest comes next on this route. It covers Crushed Endstone, which you need before the cake quest.[3]
- "Getting to The End" quest is the quest that recommends the Waystone.[3]
- "Ender Dragon" quest follows it. It asks you to kill the Ender Dragon, so you'll be going to The End anyway.[3]
Which Waystones config options matter?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Here are the Waystones settings you're most likely to touch, with the values this pack ships in config/waystones-common.toml. I can only see the pack's values, not the mod's stock defaults, so I won't claim any of these were changed.[9]
Teleport rules
- teleports.enableCosts is false, which the config describes as disabling all XP costs. The pack still has XP-cost rules in teleports.warpRequirements: a distance-scaled cost of 0.01 for same-dimension trips, a flat 27 for interdimensional trips, and a cap of 27. With costs switched off, those rules shouldn't charge you.[9]
- The same warp requirements list makes trips from a warp plate or to a global waystone free of XP cost. It also adds an inventory_button cooldown of 300 to teleports started from the inventory button. The config doesn't say what unit that 300 is in.[9]
- teleports.enableCooldowns is true, and teleports.enableModifiers is true, so warp modifier items that apply status effects on teleports are enabled.[9]
- teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so your pets stay behind. teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs come with you, even across dimensions.[9]
- teleports.entityDenyList contains only minecraft:wither, so that's the one entity that can't be teleported.[9]
Use times
general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are both 32 ticks. That's the charge-up while you hold right-click. general.warpPlateUseTime is 15 ticks, which is how long you stand on a warp plate.[9]
Visibility and ownership
general.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION, so new waystones aren't global by default. general.allowedVisibilities is empty, and the config notes you add GLOBAL there to let every player create global waystones. general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER, meaning only the owner can edit a waystone they placed.[9]
World generation
- worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, the approximate chunk distance between wild waystones. worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList lists the Overworld, the Nether and the End.[9]
- worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so a wild waystone's look depends on the biome it generates in. worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones appear in some villages.[9]
- Names use worldGen.nameGenerationMode set to PRESET_FIRST, with an empty worldGen.nameGenerationPresets list. The worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate is {MrPork}, the default name generator.[9]
Inventory button and map mods
inventoryButton.inventoryButton is an empty string in this pack. The config only documents NONE, NEAREST, ANY or a waystone name, so I can't confirm what an empty value does. The button position is 58 and 60 in the inventory, set by inventoryButton.inventoryButtonX and inventoryButton.inventoryButtonY.[9]
Unverified What an empty inventory button setting does in this pack is not documented in the config comments, so check in-game whether the button appears.
BlueMap, Dynmap and JourneyMap integrations (compatibility.blueMap, compatibility.dynmap, compatibility.journeyMap) are all enabled. compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is also true, so JourneyMap waypoints are only created if the mod 'JourneyMap Integration' isn't installed.[9]
