What is Waystones?
1 part
Waystones lets you teleport between waystone blocks once you have activated them. You can return to an activated waystone with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from one waystone to another.[1]
The mod also adds craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls, plus a waystone structure that generates in villages. Waystones can be made global so every player can use them, which is handy for community hubs or sharing with friends. There is also a configurable inventory button that lets you warp without carrying any extra items. It needs Balm installed alongside it.[1]
This pack includes Waystones 21.1.42, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[2]
Where it shows up in the quest book
The shown quests in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts don't have a quest of their own for Waystones. The mod is mentioned in "Getting to The End" quest, which comes after "Crushed Endstone" quest in the chapter. That quest is about baking an End Cake to reach The End, and its text recommends taking a Waystone so you can teleport between each dimension much more easily.[3]
The chapter has 75 quests in total, and the text of 49 of them isn't shown to me here. If you want to know whether any of those cover Waystones, check the quest book in-game.[3]
How do you get started with Waystones?
4 parts
Waystones lets you activate a waystone and come back to it later, either with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from one waystone to another. Here is the order I'd make things in this pack.[1]
First, make a Warp Stone
Start with the Warp Stone. The waystone blocks in this pack all use it as an ingredient, so you want it before anything else. It is also the rechargeable way to warp.[1][4]

Next, make your first Waystone
Now craft the plain Waystone and place it. Once a waystone is activated, you can return to it later. The quest book has a travel tip in "Getting to The End" quest in Chapter 2: it recommends taking a Waystone with you so you can teleport back and forth much more easily.[1][3]

Variants such as the Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone and Deepslate Waystone have their own recipes, and each one also uses a Warp Stone. Save them for later when you want a different look.[4]
Then, make some scrolls
A Warp Scroll is a one-item way to warp without carrying a Warp Stone. A fresh scroll tells you it is not bound to a waystone, so bind it first.[1][4][5]

How the pack has it set up
- Using a scroll or a Warp Stone takes 32 ticks of holding right-click, set by general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime.[6]
- Newly placed or found waystones use general.defaultVisibility, which is set to ACTIVATION in this pack.[6]
- XP costs are turned off by teleports.enableCosts, but cooldowns are on through teleports.enableCooldowns.[6]
- Wild waystones generate roughly every 25 chunks, set by worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones. They can also spawn in some villages, controlled by worldGen.spawnInVillages.[6]
How does Waystones work?
8 parts
Waystones is built around one loop: you activate a waystone, and from then on you can return to it. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop to another. The mod pitches itself as an alternative to /warp and /home commands, and it works on multiplayer servers.[1]
Activation and who can see a waystone
This pack sets general.defaultVisibility to ACTIVATION. A waystone shows up in your list once you have activated it, and you get the message "Activated Waystone" followed by its name. The waystone settings screen lets you change a waystone to "Visible to Everyone" (global) instead.[5][6]
Players can't make global waystones on their own here. general.allowedVisibilities is empty in this pack, and the config says you add "GLOBAL" to that list to let every player create them. Setting the default visibility to GLOBAL would make newly placed or found waystones global by default.[6]
Editing is locked down too. general.restrictedWaystones is ["PLAYER"], so only the owner of a waystone can edit it. Anyone else sees "Only the owner may edit this waystone."[5][6]
Sharestones and visibility
Sharestones come in a full set of dye colors, for example Black Sharestone, Blue Sharestone and Brown Sharestone. A waystone's visibility can be set to a single sharestone color, with entries like "Visible to Blue Sharestones". If you open a sharestone and nothing matches its color, you get "There are no matching Sharestones to teleport to."[5][6]
Portstones also come in colors, such as Black Portstone, Blue Portstone and Brown Portstone. Each has its own container screen. The sources don't explain how a portstone behaves beyond that.[5]
Using scrolls, stones and plates
Scrolls and the Warp Stone need a charge-up while you hold right-click. In this pack that is 32 ticks for scrolls (general.scrollUseTime) and 32 ticks for the Warp Stone (general.warpStoneUseTime). A warp plate is quicker: you stand on it for 15 ticks (general.warpPlateUseTime).[6]
A charging teleport can be cancelled. If you stop holding the item you get "You stopped holding the item to teleport." If you move away from the waystone you were using, you get "You moved too far away from the waystone." A scroll can also be bound to a waystone, and an unbound one tells you "This scroll is not bound to a waystone."[5]
Warp plates link to other warp plates. An unlinked plate says "This warp plate is not bound to another warp plate yet." If the shard inside a plate loses its attunement, you are told so. A Warp Portal needs free space to open, and it closes if its target is destroyed.[5]
Costs and cooldowns
XP costs are switched off in this pack: teleports.enableCosts is false, and the config describes that as disabling all xp costs. Cooldowns stay on (teleports.enableCooldowns is true).[6]
The pack still ships a rule list in teleports.warpRequirements, applied in order. Here is what each rule says:[6]
- Same-dimension teleports add an xp cost scaled by distance at 0.01.[6]
- Interdimensional teleports add an xp cost of 27.[6]
- The cost is multiplied by 0 when the source is a warp plate, or when the target is global.[6]
- The cost is clamped between a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 27.[6]
- Using the inventory button adds a cooldown of 300.[6]
If costs are ever turned on, the screens show "Experience Cost" and "Level Cost" lines. You can also be refused with "You do not have enough experience to teleport." The mod has messages for other refusals too, such as "You cannot warp between these worlds."[5][6]
Modifiers, pets and leashed mobs
teleports.enableModifiers is true, so warp modifier items can apply status effects on teleports. A waystone's settings screen has a Manage Modifiers button and shows how many modifiers are active.[5][6]
Leashed mobs follow you (teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED). Pets do not (teleports.transportPets is DISABLED). The Wither is on the teleports.entityDenyList, so it can't be teleported as a pet, leashed, or on warp plates.[6]
Managing your list
The destination screen can sort waystones by distance, by name, or manually. In manual mode you drag to reorder, double-click to move one to the top, and shift-double-click to move it to the bottom. You can hide waystones, mark favorites, set an alias, and sort them into groups. Deleting a global waystone removes it for everyone.[5]
The inventory button is controlled by inventoryButton.inventoryButton. The options are NONE, NEAREST (teleport to the nearest waystone), ANY (open the selection menu), or a waystone name. This pack sets it to an empty string.[6]
Wild waystones and map markers
Wild waystones generate roughly every 25 chunks (worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones), in the Overworld, the Nether and the End. Their look depends on the biome (worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME). They also appear in some vanilla or supported villages (worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR).[6]
Names come from the default {MrPork} generator. The mode is PRESET_FIRST, but the preset list is empty in this pack. BlueMap, Dynmap and JourneyMap integrations are all enabled, and JourneyMap waypoints are only made if the JourneyMap Integration mod is not installed.[6]
Crafting the key items
The Warp Stone is the gateway item. It is an ingredient in the recipes for the colored portstones and sharestones and for waystone variants such as the Black Waystone and Ender Waystone.[4]

How do you progress through Waystones?
5 parts
In this pack's quest book, Waystones only shows up in passing. In Chapter 2: The Cool Parts, the quest "Getting to The End" quest comes after "Crushed Endstone" quest and has you bake an End Cake. Its text recommends taking a Waystone so you can teleport between the two dimensions more easily. "Ender Dragon" quest comes after it.[3]
There are no quest-driven tiers for this mod, so the path below follows the in-pack recipes instead. The Warp Stone is the shared base of every Waystone, Portstone and Sharestone recipe, so you start there.[4]
The crafting path
- Craft a Warp Stone.[4]
- Use it to make a basic Waystone.[4]
- Move on to the themed Waystone variants, or to the dyed Portstones and Sharestones.[4]
- Make the smaller items: Warp Dust, Dormant Shard, the Warp Plate and the scrolls.[4]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Waystones?
1 part
Waystones only comes up once in the pack's quest book, and it is in a hint rather than a task. It is in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts, in the quest "Getting to The End" quest.[3]
That quest asks you to hand in End Cake, and the cake teleports you to The End. Its text says The End is perfectly normal compared to Vanilla. It then recommends taking a Waystone with you so you can teleport between the two places much more easily.[3]
Where it sits in the chapter
- "Crushed Endstone" quest comes first. It asks for Crushed End Stone.[3]
- "Getting to The End" quest comes next, with the End Cake as its task and the Waystone tip in its text.[3]
- "Ender Dragon" quest follows it. Its task is to kill the Ender Dragon.[3]
Which Waystones config options matter?
5 parts
Here are the Waystones settings you're most likely to touch, with the values this pack ships in config/waystones-common.toml. I can only see the pack's values, not the mod's stock defaults, so I won't claim any of these were changed.[6]
Teleport rules
- teleports.enableCosts is false, which the config describes as disabling all XP costs. The pack still has XP-cost rules in teleports.warpRequirements: a distance-scaled cost of 0.01 for same-dimension trips, a flat 27 for interdimensional trips, and a cap of 27. With costs switched off, those rules shouldn't charge you.[6]
- The same warp requirements list makes trips from a warp plate or to a global waystone free of XP cost. It also adds an inventory_button cooldown of 300 to teleports started from the inventory button. The config doesn't say what unit that 300 is in.[6]
- teleports.enableCooldowns is true, and teleports.enableModifiers is true, so warp modifier items that apply status effects on teleports are enabled.[6]
- teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so your pets stay behind. teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs come with you, even across dimensions.[6]
- teleports.entityDenyList contains only minecraft:wither, so that's the one entity that can't be teleported.[6]
Use times
general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are both 32 ticks. That's the charge-up while you hold right-click. general.warpPlateUseTime is 15 ticks, which is how long you stand on a warp plate.[6]
Visibility and ownership
general.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION, so new waystones aren't global by default. general.allowedVisibilities is empty, and the config notes you add GLOBAL there to let every player create global waystones. general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER, meaning only the owner can edit a waystone they placed.[6]
World generation
- worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, the approximate chunk distance between wild waystones. worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList lists the Overworld, the Nether and the End.[6]
- worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so a wild waystone's look depends on the biome it generates in. worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones appear in some villages.[6]
- Names use worldGen.nameGenerationMode set to PRESET_FIRST, with an empty worldGen.nameGenerationPresets list. The worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate is {MrPork}, the default name generator.[6]
Inventory button and map mods
inventoryButton.inventoryButton is an empty string in this pack. The config only documents NONE, NEAREST, ANY or a waystone name, so I can't confirm what an empty value does. The button position is 58 and 60 in the inventory, set by inventoryButton.inventoryButtonX and inventoryButton.inventoryButtonY.[6]
Unverified What an empty inventory button setting does in this pack is not documented in the config comments, so check in-game whether the button appears.
BlueMap, Dynmap and JourneyMap integrations (compatibility.blueMap, compatibility.dynmap, compatibility.journeyMap) are all enabled. compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is also true, so JourneyMap waypoints are only created if the mod 'JourneyMap Integration' isn't installed.[6]
What changed in Waystones between versions?
1 part
Waystones has been in the pack since All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0 or earlier. Version 2.0.4 ships Waystones 21.1.42, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]
Waystones 21.1.42
This is the version you get in 2.0.4. Here is what its changelog lists:[2][7]
- Added a button to hide waystones if they can't be deleted.[7]
- Fixed a custom reach distance being ignored in distance validity checks.[7]
- Fixed warp modifiers not being applied to waystones.[7]
- Fixed a crash when rendering warp requirements that have no renderer.[7]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for Waystones were available, so any changes made to it between pack releases are unverified. Changes from earlier Waystones versions are also unverified.
