What is StevesCarts2?

StevesCarts2 is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 1.2.18, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what StevesCarts2 adds, who it suits, or where it fits in the pack's progression. There is also no confirmed information on quests or an ATM Star path for this mod, so I'm not guessing. Check the mod in-game and treat anything beyond its presence and version as unconfirmed for now.

How do you get started with StevesCarts2?

5 parts

Steve's Carts 2 is built around modular carts, and in this pack everything starts at one block: the Cart Assembler. Here is the order I'd tackle things in, with the exact in-pack recipes so you don't have to guess.[2][3]

Start with the Cart Assembler

Make this first. The pack changed its recipe from the mod's, so use the one below. It also takes a Component Simple Pcb, which is why you'll keep seeing that item in this mod.[2]

Then the Advanced PCB

Next, craft the Component Advanced Pcb. The pack changed this recipe too, and it is built from a Simple PCB. You need it for the Module Toggler and for the Component Blank Upgrade.[2]

Track pieces

Once you can assemble carts, you'll want some track control. The Junction Rail has a pack-changed recipe, and the Advanced Detector Rail uses the mod's own recipe.[2]

Automation blocks

When you're ready to automate, look at the Module Toggler and the External Distributor, which both have pack-changed recipes. The Cargo Manager uses the mod's own recipe, and the Liquid Manager is changed by the pack.[2]

Good to know

Tip: The mod's own descriptions mention assembler effects such as redstone-controlled assembling, disassembling and modifying carts, and connecting the Assembler with a Manager.[3]
Watch out: When you design a cart, the game can refuse a build. You'll get an error if the modules cost more than the hull's capacity, or if a module is too complex for that hull. Modules can also conflict with each other or clash on the same side of the cart.[3]

How does StevesCarts2 work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

StevesCarts2 is built around modular carts. You put a cart together in the Cart Assembler, and a set of rules decides which modules fit on which hull. This section draws on the mod's own tooltip and error text plus the recipe dump for this pack.[4][5]

The Cart Assembler

The assembler builds carts from modules, and its tooltips show that assembly takes time. They list a module assembling time, a cart assembling time and a module disassembling time. This pack changed the assembler's crafting recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default.[4][5]

The tooltips describe these assembler effects:[4]

  • Assembling efficiency, which is shown as a percentage.[4]
  • Redstone-controlled assembling.[4]
  • An input chest with a set number of slots.[4]
  • Deployment of finished carts.[4]
  • Disassembling and modifying carts, plus a transposer effect that can pick up carts for modifying.[4]
  • Blueprint carts.[4]
  • A bridge that connects the assembler with a Manager.[4]
  • Power from several sources: standard combustion fuel, a generator that produces a number of units per minute, a solar effect that only works while in the sun, and a thermal effect that powers the assembler with lava from an internal tank.[4]

The tooltips describe each of these as an effect. They don't say which item gives which effect, so check each tooltip in-game.[4]

Hull and module rules

Each hull limits what you can fit, and the mod has error messages for the rules you can break. These are the limits and errors it reports:[4]

  • Capacity: if the cost of your modules is greater than the capacity of the hull, you get an error. Hulls show a modular capacity value.[4]
  • Complexity: a hull has a module complexity cap, and a module that is too complex for it is rejected.[4]
  • Engines and addons: a hull shows a maximum engine count and a maximum addon count.[4]
  • Duplicates: some modules can be added more than once and others can't. The tooltip says "Duplicates are allowed" when they can.[4]
  • Parents: some modules require another module to work, and the message names the missing one.[4]
  • Conflicts: some modules won't work together, and tooltips list what a module conflicts with.[4]
  • Sides: a module can occupy sides of the cart, and two modules that want the same side will clash. Some modules occupy no sides at all.[4]
Tip: Module tooltips show "Press <key> for more info". Use that key on a module whenever you want the extra details the mod offers.[4]

Some modules also report their own status. The Information Provider addon, for example, shows coordinates and tells you whether a tool is being repaired or isn't damaged.[4]

Managers, distributor and rails

The mod has several logistics blocks: the Cargo Manager, the Liquid Manager, the External Distributor and the Module Toggler. It also has rails: the Junction Rail and the Advanced Detector Rail. The sources here don't explain how any of these behave, so I'm only covering their crafting. The pack changed the External Distributor, Liquid Manager, Module Toggler and Junction Rail recipes. The Cargo Manager and Advanced Detector Rail keep the mod's own recipes.[5]

How do you progress through StevesCarts2?

5 parts

Unverified The sources here show no quests that involve StevesCarts2 in this pack, and no in-jar guidebook for it. So this section follows the in-pack recipes instead of a quest path.

Stage 1: the Cart Assembler

Everything starts at the Cart Assembler. The pack changed its recipe, so don't rely on old tutorials or the mod's default. Use this one.[2]

Stage 2: circuit boards and basic parts

A lot of the recipes in the pack build on circuit boards, and the Cart Assembler itself needs a Component Simple Pcb. The Simple PCB has two pack-changed recipe variants, and the Component Advanced Pcb is pack-changed too.[2]

Early mechanical parts in the pack include the Component Wheel, Component Iron Wheels, Component Iron Blade, Component Pipe and Component Solar Panel Component, all pack-changed. The Component Wooden Wheels use the mod's own crafting. The block below shows the Wheel.[2]

Next: reinforced and hardened parts

Next come the metal and tool components: Component Reinforced Wheels, Component Hardened Saw Blade, Component Saw Blade and Component Raw Hardener are all pack-changed, while the Component Hardened Mesh uses the mod's own crafting. The Reinforced Wheels are shown below.[2]

Component Stabilized Metal is also pack-changed, and it is an ingredient in the pack's Lump of Galgador recipe, so it is your bridge to the Galgador parts.[2]

Then: Galgadorian components

The Component Lump Of Galgador is changed by the pack and shown below. The Component Eye Of Galgador and Component Large Lump Of Galgador use the mod's own crafting.[2]

The Lump of Galgador recipe is changed by the pack.

Metal blocks can be turned back into components: Galgadorian Block into Component Galgadorian Metal, and Enhanced Galgadorian Block into Component Enhanced Galgadorian Metal. Galgadorian gear includes the Component Galgadorian Wheels, which use the mod's own crafting, and the pack-changed Component Galgadorian Saw Blade. The block below shows the first conversion.[2]

Management blocks

The utility blocks sit alongside these stages rather than in one fixed order. The pack changed the recipes for the Module Toggler, External Distributor, Junction Rail and Liquid Manager. The Cargo Manager and Advanced Detector Rail use the mod's own recipes.[2]
