What is Functional Storage?
3 parts
Functional Storage is the drawer storage mod in the pack. Instead of piling up chests, you place Drawers, link them to a Storage Controller, and expand and automate them with upgrades. The pack includes version 1.21.1-1.5.8.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The mod has its own chapter, "Basic Storage". Most of its quests hang off one entry quest, a quest in "Basic Storage". The first one after it for the drawer blocks is the Linking Tool quest, a quest in "Basic Storage". The chapter sources do not name a separate group for it.[2]
After the Linking Tool quest come the Framed Drawers, the Ender Drawer, the Compacting Drawer, the Simple Compacting Drawer, the Fluid Drawers, the Configuration Tool and the Storage Controller. The Controller Access Point quest follows the Storage Controller quest.[2]
What you get
- The Storage Controller acts as a hub for linked Drawers. You connect Drawers to it with the Linking Tool. Add normal storage upgrades to its upgrade tab to extend its range, up to 40 blocks on all sides (an 80x80x80 cube).[2]
- Fluid Drawers, such as the Fluid Drawer (1x1), work like regular Drawers but store fluids.[2]
- Compacting Drawers convert stored items to their compacted forms. The Simple Compacting Drawer auto-converts the item placed inside it into its compacted form.[2]
- Framed Drawers, such as the Framed Drawer (1x1), can mimic a block's texture on the outside and a different one on the front.[2]
- Two Ender Drawers linked with the Linking Tool sync their contents, much like an Ender Chest but as a Drawer.[2]
Upgrades
The quests chain the storage upgrades in order: Copper Upgrade (x8), then Gold Upgrade (x16), then Diamond Upgrade (x24), then Netherite Upgrade (x32). The quests are "Copper Upgrade" quest, "Gold Upgrade" quest, "Diamond Upgrade" quest and "Netherite Upgrade" quest.[2]
The utility upgrades sit directly after the chapter's entry quest. The Puller Upgrade pulls items in from any side and the Pusher Upgrade pushes them out. The Collector Upgrade vacuums items in from one side, the Void Upgrade voids extra items when a Drawer is full, and the Redstone Upgrade outputs a signal from 0 (empty) to 15 (full).[2]
Unverified Whether Functional Storage is used by the ATM Star path is not shown by the sources here. The "Basic Storage" chapter data does not mention it either way.
How do you get started with Functional Storage?
5 parts
Functional Storage is all about drawers: blocks that each hold a big stack of one item type. This pack changed the mod's recipes, and the quest book's Basic Storage chapter walks you through it. Here is the order I'd tackle things in.[2][3]
Step one: make a drawer
Everything starts with a basic drawer. They come in wood variants, like the Acacia Drawer (1x1) and Birch Drawer (1x1), and in 1x1, 1x2 and 2x2 layouts, for example Acacia Drawer (1x2) and Acacia Drawer (2x2). The pack changed these recipes, so use the one below.[3]

The other wood types follow the same pattern with their own planks, and the pack changed those recipes too.
Keep a few spare drawers on hand. The Copper Upgrade, Configuration Tool, Linking Tool and Storage Controller recipes all use a drawer as an ingredient.[3]
Step two: storage upgrades
Your first upgrade is the Copper Upgrade, which the quest book calls an x8 Storage Upgrade. The tiers then chain: Gold Upgrade is x16, Diamond Upgrade is x24 and Netherite Upgrade is x32.[2]

Each tier is crafted from the one before it, so you can't skip ahead. The Netherite step is done at a smithing table instead of a crafting grid.[3]

Step three: lock your drawers
Craft the Configuration Tool early. It locks a drawer so it remembers its item, which matters once you push and pull items automatically. A locked drawer won't replace the item it was locked to.[2]
Step four: link everything with a controller
Once you have several drawers, make a Storage Controller and a Linking Tool. In the quest book, the Linking Tool quest a quest in "Basic Storage" comes first, and the controller quest a quest in "Basic Storage" follows it. The controller acts as a hub for your drawers.[2]

- Right-click the controller with the Linking Tool to start configuring.[2]
- Right-click each drawer you want to add to the network.[2]
- Hold the tool to see which drawers are connected to the controller.[2]
Double right-clicking the controller pulls in every item from your inventory that has a slot in the network. Sneak right-click it with an empty hand to open the upgrades tab. Adding normal storage upgrades there extends the controller's range, up to 40 blocks on every side, or an 80x80x80 cube.[2]
Nice extras for later
- Pusher Upgrade and Puller Upgrade let a drawer push items out of, or pull items in through, any side.[2]
- Collector Upgrade makes a drawer vacuum up items from one of its sides.[2]
- Iron Downgrade lowers a drawer's max space to a single stack, handy for keeping a limited stock.[2]
- Redstone Upgrade outputs a Redstone signal from 0 (empty) to 15 (full).[2]
- Compacting Drawer converts items to their nugget or block forms, and Ender Drawer syncs contents between two linked Ender Drawers.[2]
- Fluid drawers such as Fluid Drawer (1x1) work like regular drawers but store fluids.[2]
How does Functional Storage work?
4 parts
Functional Storage is built around drawers, and in this pack they come in 1x1, 1x2 and 2x2 layouts. You can see this in the wood variants such as Acacia Drawer (1x1), Acacia Drawer (1x2) and Acacia Drawer (2x2), and in the matching Fluid Drawer (1x1), Fluid Drawer (1x2) and Fluid Drawer (2x2) fluid drawers. The sources for this section are thin, so it covers only what they confirm.[3]
Fluid drawers
Fluid drawers show two hints in their GUI. One tells you how to empty a container into the drawer, and the other tells you how to fill a container from the drawer. So you can load and unload them by hand with containers.[4]
Linking drawers to a controller
The linking tool has two modes. Single mode links a drawer to a controller. Multiple mode links multiple drawers between 2 points, which saves you clicking every drawer in a big wall.[4]
The pack also has the Controller Access Point (Controller Access Point). Here is its in-pack recipe:[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any stone | any quartz storage block | any stone |
| any drawer | any drawer | |

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default.
Upgrades
Storage upgrade tooltips describe how an upgrade changes a base value: it can increase it, decrease it, or set it outright. Items with the utility tooltips can be adjusted by right-clicking them in a GUI, either to change their direction or to change their slot.[4]
There is also a tooltip for upgrades that generate a fluid, showing the amount in mb and the fluid. The sources here do not say which upgrade item uses it.[4]
The pack has its own recipe for the Collector Upgrade:[3]

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default.

Unverified No config files for this mod are available in the sources here, so numeric details such as drawer capacities, the exact amounts each storage upgrade applies, and the fluid amount a drawer holds are not shown, and neither are controller range or how hoppers, pipes or other mods interact with drawers.
How do you progress through Functional Storage?
4 parts
Functional Storage progression in this pack runs through the Basic Storage quest chapter. Your main path is a chain of four storage upgrades. Around it sit the tools, special drawers and utility upgrades that turn a pile of drawers into a proper network.[2]
The storage upgrade tiers
The quests line up the capacity upgrades in a strict order. Each one unlocks after the previous one, and each quest names its multiplier.[2]
- Copper Upgrade is the first tier, a x8 storage upgrade ("Copper Upgrade" quest).[2]
- Gold Upgrade is a x16 storage upgrade ("Gold Upgrade" quest).[2]
- Diamond Upgrade is a x24 storage upgrade ("Diamond Upgrade" quest).[2]
- Netherite Upgrade is a x32 storage upgrade ("Netherite Upgrade" quest).[2]
The crafting chain follows the quest order: the Gold Upgrade recipe takes the Copper Upgrade, the Diamond Upgrade recipe takes the Gold Upgrade, and the Netherite Upgrade is a smithing recipe that takes the Diamond Upgrade. All four recipes are changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's default recipes.[3]

Unverified The sources don't say what multiplier the Max Storage Upgrade gives, and the quest chapter has no entry for it.
Controller and network
The Linking Tool (a quest in "Basic Storage") is the gate for most of the chapter. It links drawers to a controller and also links Ender Drawers together. Holding it shows which drawers are connected to the controller.[2]
The Storage Controller (a quest in "Basic Storage") is the hub of your network. Double right-click it to pull in everything from your inventory that has a slot in the network. Sneak right-click it with an empty hand to open the upgrades tab, where normal storage upgrades extend its range. The maximum range is 40 blocks in every direction, a cube of 80x80x80.[2]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: functionalstorage:storage_controller
Once you have a controller, the Controller Access Point (a quest in "Basic Storage") works as an extra entry point. When linked, it acts as a Storage Controller that you can push into or pull from.[2]
Special drawers
After the Linking Tool, the chapter opens up several specialised drawers. These are the ones the quests cover:[2]
- Compacting Drawer converts items to their nugget or block forms, so Iron Ingots can be pulled out as 9 nuggets or stored as Iron Blocks.[2]
- Simple Compacting Drawer auto-converts the item inside it into its compacted form.[2]
- Ender Drawer syncs contents between two linked Ender Drawers, like an Ender Chest. Right-click the first with the Linking Tool, then left-click the second.[2]
- Fluid Drawer (1x1), Fluid Drawer (1x2) and Fluid Drawer (2x2) work like regular drawers but store fluids.[2]
- Framed drawers, such as Framed Drawer (1x1), can mimic a block's texture on the outside and a different one on the front.[2]
Tools and utility upgrades
The Configuration Tool locks a drawer so it remembers its item. That matters when you push and pull items automatically, because a locked drawer won't swap to a different item.[2]
- Puller Upgrade lets a drawer pull items in from any side, and Pusher Upgrade lets it push items out into any side. You can also craft each one directly from the other.[2][3]
- Collector Upgrade makes a drawer vacuum items in from one of its sides.[2]
- Void Upgrade voids extra items when a drawer is full, which stops overflow and keeps a setup from backing up.[2]
- Iron Downgrade cuts a drawer's max space down to a stack, which is handy for keeping an item in stock without hoarding too much.[2]
- Redstone Upgrade outputs a Redstone signal on all sides, from 0 (empty) to 15 (full). On multi-slot drawers you can configure which slot it monitors.[2]
How does Functional Storage work with other mods?
The one cross-mod link the pack's recipes and quests confirm for Functional Storage is the Max Storage Upgrade. The pack adds its recipe with a custom script, as a shaped recipe that includes an item from outside Functional Storage. The block below shows the exact in-pack recipe.[3]
Shaped (kubejs)
Recipe id: kubejs:kjs/functionalstorage_max_storage_upgrade
This recipe is added by the pack, so use this one rather than any mod default.
The rest of the storage upgrade line in the quest book stays inside Functional Storage: Copper Upgrade (x8), Gold Upgrade (x16), Diamond Upgrade (x24) and Netherite Upgrade (x32). Each one unlocks after the one before it. The sources show no cross-mod recipe for these.[2]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Functional Storage?
3 parts
Everything for this mod lives in a single chapter, Basic Storage. Each quest asks you to get hold of one item (or any one of a small group of related items), and the quest text explains what it does. Most of them unlock after one earlier quest in the chapter, so the chapter fans out in a few branches rather than running as one long line.[2]
Linking Tool branch
The first quest in this branch is a quest in "Basic Storage", which asks for the Linking Tool. It links Drawers to a Controller and links Ender Drawers together. Seven more quests unlock after it:[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage" asks for the Storage Controller (the framed version also counts). It acts as a hub for your linked Drawers, and its max range is 40 blocks on all sides, or a cube of 80x80x80.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage" asks for the Configuration Tool, which locks Drawers so they remember their item.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage" asks for the Ender Drawer. Link two of them with the Linking Tool to sync their contents, like an Ender Chest in Drawer form.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage" asks for the Compacting Drawer, which converts items to their nugget or block forms.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage" asks for the Simple Compacting Drawer, which auto-converts the stored item into its compacted form.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage" accepts any of the Fluid Drawer (1x1), Fluid Drawer (1x2) or Fluid Drawer (2x2). These work like regular Drawers but store fluids.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage" accepts any framed Drawer or framed controller piece, such as the Framed Drawer (1x1) or the Framed Storage Controller. Framed blocks can mimic other blocks' textures.[2]
After the Controller quest, a quest in "Basic Storage" asks for the Controller Access Point. It acts as an extra entry point to your Drawers when linked to the Controller.[2]
Utility upgrades
Six upgrade quests unlock from the same earlier quest in the chapter, so you can do them in any order:[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage": the Collector Upgrade makes a Drawer vacuum items in from one side.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage": the Pusher Upgrade lets Drawers push items out of any side.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage": the Puller Upgrade lets Drawers pull items in from any side.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage": the Void Upgrade voids extra items when a Drawer is full, which stops setups from backing up.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage": the Redstone Upgrade outputs a signal from 0 (empty) to 15 (full).[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage": the Iron Downgrade cuts a Drawer's max space down to a stack.[2]
Storage upgrade chain
The storage upgrades form a strict chain. "Copper Upgrade" quest (the Copper Upgrade, an x8 Storage Upgrade) comes first, then "Gold Upgrade" quest (the Gold Upgrade, x16), then "Diamond Upgrade" quest (the Diamond Upgrade, x24), and finally "Netherite Upgrade" quest (the Netherite Upgrade, x32).[2]
