What is Crystalix?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Crystalix is a glass mod. This pack includes version 3.0.1, and it adds coloured glass blocks that each do something different. There are only 3 types of glass, but you can apply any colour to any of them, so the colour combinations are effectively endless.[1][2]
What makes the glass special is its properties, which you can mix however you like. Reinforced glass can't be destroyed by anything except a player mining it, and it takes 10 times longer to mine. Light glows at light level 15, and Redstone makes the block emit a signal of 15. Ghost lets chosen creatures walk straight through the block, and Waterloggable, Shadeless, Invisibility, Transparent and Conductor round out the list.[1]
You change all of this with the Crystalix Wand. Hold V to open the config window by default. Left click or scroll down to cycle forwards, and right click or scroll up to cycle backwards. Crouch to edit all connected blocks at once, hold CTRL to apply properties without the colour, and press X to copy the properties of the block you're targeting onto the wand.[1]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book has a quest called "Crystalix" quest in the "Building Tips" chapter. The path leading to it starts at "Building Tips!" quest, then goes to "Blocks!" quest, then to the vanilla glass quest a quest in "Building Tips". Crystalix comes straight after that glass quest.[3]
The glass quest also leads to "Macaw's Windows" quest, so the book treats Crystalix as one of the fancier glass options for your builds. The book's description names three glass styles, Normal, Clear and Bordered, and highlights the Shadeless, Reinforced, Light and Ghost properties.[3]
The sources I have don't show whether any quest comes after the Crystalix quest. The "Building Tips" chapter has 67 quests and only part of it was available here, so check the quest book itself for the rest.[3]
How do you get started with Crystalix?
3 parts
Crystalix adds coloured glass blocks that you can customise with special properties. In the pack's quest book it sits in the Building Tips chapter, right after the vanilla glass quest a quest in "Building Tips", and its own quest is "Crystalix" quest. It comes in three kinds of glass: Normal, Clear and Bordered.[1][4]
Step 1: Craft the Crystalix Wand
Start with the Crystalix Wand. It's the tool you use to change what a Crystalix block does, so you'll want it before you place much glass. The recipe below is added by the pack.[1][5]
Crafting Shaped

Here is how the wand works by default:[1]
- By default, hold V to open the config window, where you set a block's properties.[1]
- Left click or scroll down cycles forwards. Right click or scroll up cycles backwards.[1]
- Crouch to edit all connecting blocks at once.[1]
- Hold CTRL to apply properties without changing the colour.[1]
- Press X to copy the properties of the block you're currently targeting onto the wand.[1]
Step 2: Make some coloured glass
Next, craft the glass itself. Each of the three kinds has its own recipe for every colour, and each craft makes 4 blocks. Black is shown here as an example: first Normal, then Clear, then Bordered.[5]

There is also a tinting recipe that makes 8 blocks per craft. I can only confirm it for black here, so check the recipe viewer for other colours.[5]

Step 3: Play with the properties
Place your glass and use the wand on it. The quest book names four properties: Shadeless, which affects how the glass reacts to shaders and Minecraft lighting. Reinforced, which affects blast resistance. Light, which sets whether the glass gives light, ignores light or lets light in like normal glass. Ghost, which changes who can walk through the glass and has the most settings.[4]
The mod's project page lists a few more, including Invisibility, Waterloggable and Redstone, but I can't confirm from the pack's own files which of these are in this version. Check the wand's config window to see what you get.[1]
How does Crystalix work?
6 parts
Crystalix is about colored glass blocks and one tool, the Crystalix Wand, which sets what each block does. The sources show no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling for this mod, so the core mechanic is the wand plus the properties you give your glass. The wand and property details below come from the mod's project page, which may not match the exact mod version in the pack.[1][6]
Getting the wand
The pack adds its own crafting recipe for the wand through a script.[5]

Glass types and crafting
The mod's project page says there are three types of glass, and the pack's recipes make them as plain, bordered and clear versions. Each craft gives you 4 blocks. Here are the black versions as an example, and the other colors follow the same pattern.[1][5][6]

The color you craft isn't a lock. The mod's page says you can apply any color to any type of glass, so you can recolor blocks later with the wand.[1]
Using the wand
According to the mod's project page, the wand cycles through the possible properties in a config window and sets the one you pick on the block you target.[1]
- By default, holding V opens the config window, according to the project page.[1]
- The project page says left click or scroll down cycles forwards, while right click or scroll up cycles backwards.[1]
- The project page says crouching lets you edit all connecting blocks at once. The mod's tooltip also says to hold Shift to bulk edit.[1][6]
- The project page says holding CTRL applies properties without changing the color.[1]
- The project page says pressing X copies the properties of the block you are targeting onto the wand.[1]
The mod also adds key bindings under a Crystalix category: Direction Modifier, Cycle Ghost Mode, Toggle Invisible Mode, Cycle Light Mode, Toggle Reinforced Mode, Toggle Shadeless Mode and Toggle Waterlogging Mode.[6]
Properties
You can mix and match properties however you like.[1]
- Invisibility: described on the project page as making the block invisible, so you keep its properties without a visible block.[1]
- Transparent: described on the project page as making the glass texture fully transparent, with color only on a few specks.[1]
- Waterloggable: sets whether the block can be waterlogged.[1]
- Reinforced: the project page describes it as indestructible to everything, including the wither and the ender dragon, except for a player mining it, and as making the block 10x harder to mine.[1]
- Shadeless: described on the project page as removing the shadows and shade from the block.[1]
- Redstone: described on the project page as making the block emit a redstone signal of 15.[1]
- Conductor: described on the project page as making the block conduct redstone through it like a solid block.[1]
- Color: opens a color picker so you can choose any color for your glass.[1]
Ghost mode
The project page describes Ghost as making the block passthrough for one of these groups: nothing, everything, only players, everything except players, only hostile mobs, everything except hostile mobs, only passive mobs, or everything except passive mobs.[1]
Light modes
- None: listed on the project page as no special property.[1]
- Light: listed on the project page as glowing at a light level of 15.[1]
- Dark: listed on the project page as blocking light the same way as tinted glass.[1]
- Fake Light: listed on the project page as glowing at a light level of 15 while still allowing mobs to spawn.[1]
How do you progress through Crystalix?
4 parts
Crystalix doesn't give you a tier ladder to climb in this pack. The quest book treats it as one decorative glass quest, so your progression is picking a glass style, then a colour and a property set.[4]
Where it sits in the quest book
The Crystalix quest "Crystalix" quest is in the Building Tips chapter, which has 67 quests. It comes right after the vanilla glass quest a quest in "Building Tips". That quest follows Blocks! "Blocks!" quest, which in turn follows the chapter's opening quest, Building Tips! "Building Tips!" quest.[4]
Crystalix isn't alone there. Macaw's Windows "Macaw's Windows" quest, Glassential "Glassential" quest, Chipped Glass "Chipped Glass" quest, XyCraft Glass "XyCraft Glass" quest, Railcraft Glass "Railcraft Glass" quest and Reactor Glass (Basic) a quest in "Building Tips" all branch off the same glass quest.[4]
The three glass styles
- Normal: no borders or corner pixels. It's entirely clear and one colour.[4]
- Clear: has the borders but no pixels near the corners, so the inside is all clear.[4]
- Bordered: the regular Minecraft glass pattern, with borders and corner pixels.[4]
On top of the style, each Crystalix glass has its own properties: Shadeless, Reinforced, Light and Ghost. Shadeless changes how it reacts to shaders and Minecraft lighting. Reinforced changes blast resistance. Light decides whether it gives light, ignores light, or lets light in like normal glass. Ghost changes who can walk through the glass, and it has the most settings.[4]
Crafting the glass
Each style has its own dye-based recipe in the pack, and each of these makes 4 blocks per craft. Here is the blue version of each, and the other colours follow the same pattern. Examples are crystalix:blue_crystalix_glass, crystalix:blue_clear_crystalix_glass and crystalix:blue_bordered_crystalix_glass.[5]

There are also tinted recipes that make 8 blocks per craft, for example this one.[5]

The wand
The pack adds its own recipe for the Crystalix Wand, so this one is a pack change rather than a mod recipe.[5]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Crystalix?
2 parts
Crystalix has one quest in the pack, and it sits in the Building Tips chapter. The quest is "Crystalix" quest, and it is a simple item quest.[4]
Where it sits in the chapter
Building Tips is a big chapter with 67 quests, and the Crystalix quest is a few steps down one branch. The chain goes like this:[4]
- "Building Tips!" quest is the start of the chapter.[4]
- "Blocks!" quest comes after it and asks you to get any block.[4]
- a quest in "Building Tips" comes after Blocks! and asks for vanilla glass. Its text says the vanilla glass is nice, but you can do much better.[4]
- "Crystalix" quest comes after the glass quest.[4]
The Crystalix quest shares its parent with several other glass quests: "Macaw's Windows" quest, a quest in "Building Tips", "Railcraft Glass" quest, "XyCraft Glass" quest, "Glassential" quest and "Chipped Glass" quest. They all unlock together once you finish the glass quest.[4]
What the quest tells you
The quest text introduces Crystalix as the mod that gives you glass, in lots of different types. There are three styles. Bordered is the normal Minecraft glass pattern, with borders and pixels near the corners. Clear keeps the borders but drops the corner pixels, so the inside is fully clear. Normal has no borders or pixels, so it is entirely clear and a single color.[4]
On top of the style, each Crystalix glass has its own properties. The quest lists four of them:[4]
- Shadeless affects how the glass reacts to shaders and to Minecraft lighting.[4]
- Reinforced affects blast resistance.[4]
- Light affects whether the glass gives off light, ignores light, or acts like normal glass and lets light in.[4]
- Ghost changes who can walk through the glass. The quest says this one has the most settings.[4]
Unverified The quest data I have only marks the Crystalix quest as an item task. It does not show which exact item the quest checks for.
