What is Productive Farming?

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Productive Farming is part of the pack, which ships version 26.1.2-0.12.0 of the mod. It was first included in this pack in 0.8.0-beta or earlier.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm what Productive Farming adds, who it suits best, or how it fits into the pack's progression. The sources I have only confirm that the mod is installed and which version it is. I'm not guessing at its features, items or recipes.

Unverified I found no quests for this mod and no sign that it sits on the ATM Star path, so I can't give you a progression route for it. Check in-game, for example in the recipe viewer, to see what the mod adds in this pack. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Productive Farming?

3 parts

Productive Farming is about building automated, multiblock farms rather than planting one crop at a time. This section covers the farm's structure and a few starter recipes that the pack's data confirms.[2]

Step 1: Plan your farm structure

The in-game Ponder scenes say the minimum size for a farm is 3x3, and the corners are optional. The inside can be any block your crops need. The multiblock must also have a Farm Controller.[2]

Once it's running, crops planted on the farm are harvested automatically. When they grow they have a small chance to improve their traits.[2]

Tip: Check the tooltips on each crop before you plan the layout. Some crops need two blocks of space to grow, and others must be planted on a fence post.[2]

Step 2: Get seeds and crates

You can turn a Cantaloupe Slice into Cantaloupe Seeds, so a slice gives you a way to start growing more cantaloupe.[3]

The mod also adds crate recipes for its crops, and for some vanilla ones such as carrots and beetroot.[3]

The mod's own crops, like Agave, have a crate recipe plus a shapeless unpack recipe that turns the crate back into the crop.[3]

Later upgrades

  • Pollen can be used on a fully grown crop to pollinate it by hand.[2]
  • Farm Controller upgrades exist. The stability upgrade strips stats from collected crops. The time upgrade shortens the time between harvesting attempts, so use it with care, and you can install multiple upgrades.[2]
  • If you make a farm taller, you can use it as a fish farm. Creatures inside are bred and slaughtered automatically, and fish produce nutrient-rich water you can pump to a crop farm for faster growth.[2]

How does Productive Farming work?

7 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Productive Farming is built around multiblock farms. You build a structure, give it a Farm Controller, plant crops inside and let the farm harvest them for you. Here is what the mod's own in-game text explains about how that works.[2]

Building a farm

  • The minimum size for a farm is 3x3, and the corners are optional.[2]
  • The inside of the farm can be any block your crops need.[2]
  • The farm multiblock must have a Farm Controller.[2]

How crop farming works

Crops planted on the farm are harvested automatically. When crops grow, they have a small chance to improve their traits.[2]

If you don't want to wait for chance, Pollen can be used on a fully grown crop to pollinate it by hand.[2]

Farm Controller upgrades

The Farm Controller accepts upgrades. The in-game descriptions cover these ones.[2]

  • The stability upgrade strips stats from the crops the farm collects.[2]
  • The time upgrade decreases the time between harvesting attempts. The tooltip says to use it with care, and that multiple upgrades can be installed.[2]
  • The second-tier time upgrade is twice as good as the first one.[2]

Fish farms and aquaponics

If you make the farm taller, you can use it as a fish farm. Creatures inside the farm boundaries are automatically bred and slaughtered.[2]

Fish produce nutrient rich water, which can be pumped to a crop farm for increased growth. You can also combine the two farms to make an aquaponics system.[2]

Troughs for animals

  • The Feeding Trough makes nearby animals breed.[2]
  • The Watering Trough increases the growth speed of nearby animals.[2]

Special crop rules

Some crops have placement rules, and you can read them in their tooltips. Double crops need two blocks of space to grow. Fencepost crops must be planted on a fence post. Mushroom crops have a chance of growing new shrooms on the side of the composter when you compost them.[2]

Crates for storage

Harvested crops can be packed into crates to keep your storage tidy, and each crate can be unpacked back into the crop. Here is the pair for Agave and Agave Crate. Other crops in the pack follow the same pattern, such as Akebia Crate.[4]

How do you progress through Productive Farming?

2 parts

The sources for this pack don't show a tiered progression for Productive Farming. What they do show is a set of crafting recipes, so this section covers what you can craft rather than a step-by-step tier ladder.[3]

Crates for your harvest

Many crops in the mod can be packed into a crate and unpacked again. Packing is a shaped crafting recipe and unpacking is shapeless, so you can store a harvest compactly and get it back whenever you need it. For example, Agave packs into an Agave Crate.[3]

The pack also has crate recipes for vanilla crops, so you get the Carrot Crate and the Beetroot Crate from regular carrots and beetroots.[3]

Cantaloupe and the corn cob pipe

A Cantaloupe Slice can be crafted into a whole Cantaloupe or into Cantaloupe Seeds. Both are shapeless recipes.[3]

The Corn Cob Pipe is a shaped recipe that uses any item from the corn tag and any item from the wooden rod tag.[3]

Unverified The sources here don't show any quests, quest chapter or unlock order for this mod in the pack, so there is no confirmed progression path or tier breakdown. If you want to know where it fits, check the pack's quest book yourself.
