What is Mekanism Covers?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Mekanism Covers is a small Mekanism addon with one job: it lets you cover Mekanism's cables and pipes so your base looks cleaner. If you've ever had a tangle of exposed transmitters running across your walls, this is for you.[1]

The pack ships version 1.3-BETA+1.21 of the mod.[2]

How it works

  1. Craft the cover, then combine it with the block you want to use in a crafting table.[1]
  2. Right click the cable or pipe you want to cover.[1]

To take a cover off, you can break the block, use a Configurator in wrench mode, or use a wrench from another tech mod.[1]

Tip: If the game crashes while you use a rendering-focused mod such as Iris, Oculus, Sodium or Embeddium, open the mod's config file, mekanismcovers.json, and set disableAdvancedCoverRendering to true. That is the fix the mod's author recommends.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The mod has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier. It's a cosmetic quality-of-life addon on top of Mekanism's transport network, so it isn't something you need to rush.[1][2]

Unverified No quests or ATM Star path steps for this mod were found in the sources, so I can't confirm any specific progression placement beyond it being an optional add-on to Mekanism's cables and pipes.

How do you get started with Mekanism Covers?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Mekanism Covers is a small Mekanism addon with one job: it lets you cover your cables and pipes with a block of your choice. The first step is making the cover item.[1]

Craft the empty cover

Everything starts with Empty Cover. In this pack it is a shaped crafting table recipe, and the block below shows the exact in-pack layout.[3]

This is the in-pack recipe for the empty cover, made in a crafting table.

Combine it with a block

Put the cover and the block you want to use into the crafting table together, in the same grid.[1]

Cover a cable or pipe

Right click the Mekanism cable or pipe you want to cover with the finished cover. That is all it takes.[1]

Removing a cover

Changed your mind? Any of these will take a cover off:[1]

  • Break the covered block.[1]
  • Use a Configurator in wrench mode.[1]
  • Use a wrench from another tech mod.[1]
Tip: If the game crashes while you use a rendering mod such as Iris, Oculus, Sodium or Embeddium, open the mekanismcovers.json config file and set disableAdvancedCoverRendering to true.[1]

How does Mekanism Covers work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Mekanism Covers is a small Mekanism addon with one job: it gives you a simple way to cover Mekanism's cables and pipes. Here is how it works in the pack.[1]

Making and applying a cover

Everything starts with the Empty Cover. This is the pack's recipe for it:[3]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: mekanismcovers:cover

  1. Craft the cover.[1]
  2. Combine the cover with the block you want to show, in a crafting table.[1]
  3. Right click the cable or pipe you want to cover.[1]

Removing a cover

If you want a cover gone, you have a few options:[1]

  • Break the block.[1]
  • Use a Configurator in wrench mode.[1]
  • Use a wrench from another tech mod.[1]

Rendering config

The mod can crash alongside mods that change Minecraft's rendering, such as Iris, Oculus, Sodium or Embeddium. Its fix is to set disableAdvancedCoverRendering to true.[1]

The pack already sets disableAdvancedCoverRendering to true, so you don't need to change anything.[4]

How do you progress through Mekanism Covers?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Mekanism Covers is a very small add-on in this pack. The recipe data shows a single craftable item for it: the Empty Cover. It is a shaped crafting recipe from the mod itself, so you make it at a regular crafting table.[3]

4× Empty CoverMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

any wood dustany glass blocksany wood dust
any osmium nuggetany wood dustany osmium nugget

Recipe id: mekanismcovers:cover

This is the only Mekanism Covers recipe in the pack's recipe data.

The inputs in that recipe are tags rather than fixed items: wood dusts, glass blocks and osmium nuggets. Any item that belongs to the matching tag works, so you can use whichever variant you have on hand.[3]

Unverified The sources here show no quests involving this mod, so the pack's quest book gives no tier order or progression path for it. No other Mekanism Covers recipes appear in the recipe data, so there is no tier breakdown to describe.

Which Mekanism Covers config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Mekanism Covers has very little to configure. The one option you're likely to care about is disableAdvancedCoverRendering, and this pack has it switched on.[1][4]

disableAdvancedCoverRendering

In this pack, disableAdvancedCoverRendering is set to true. That means the pack uses the mod's simpler cover rendering path, not the advanced one.[1][4]

The mod's own project page recommends this setting as the fix if you get crashes while using mods that change Minecraft's rendering, such as Iris, Oculus, Sodium or Embeddium. The option lives in the mekanismcovers.json file in your config folder.[1]

Tip: If you run a rendering mod or shader setup of your own on top of the pack and covers crash your game, check that this option is still true in your config file. It already is in the pack's own config.[1][4]

Unverified The sources don't state the mod's default value for this option, so we can't confirm whether the pack changed it from the default.

What changed in Mekanism Covers between versions?

1 part

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships with Mekanism Covers 1.3-BETA+1.21. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so it's one of the long-standing additions.[5]

1.3-BETA+1.21

This is the only mod changelog available for the version in your pack. Here is what it lists:[6]

  • Fixed a random crash.[6]
  • Added a shader compatible translucent shader renderer, which is the one to note if you play with shaders.[6]

The changelog doesn't say what caused the crash or exactly how the new renderer behaves, so there are no further details to share here.[6]
