What is Cobblemon PokeNav?

1 part

Cobblemon PokeNav is inspired by the item and mechanics from Pokémon RSE and Pokémon ORAS. It adds the Pokenav Item Base, which tells you which Pokémon may appear in the area you're standing in, how likely they are to show up, and what factors influence their appearance.[1][2]

It also helps you hunt them down. You can track a Pokémon with a three-dimensional arrow, or use the radar item called the PokéFinder. The mod also has a fishing spawn check feature called FishingNav, which lets you predict your catch.[1]

It is compatible with add-ons that use the Cobblemon built-in Pokémon spawn system.[1]

This pack includes version 2.3.3 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[3]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack gives PokeNav its own quest chapter, "Gotta Find Em' All". It holds these quests:[2]

  • "PokeFinders" quest: the task is to have any PokéFinder, which comes in black, blue, green, pink, red, white and yellow, for example Pokefinder Item Red. It shows a map of Pokémon near you. You can set filters for species, aspects and labels so only matching Pokémon appear, and strict filters require a Pokémon to match all listed aspects or labels.[2]
  • "PokeNav" quest: the task is to get the Pokenav Item Base. It follows the biome you're in and shows a long list of Pokémon. The buttons on top change the rarity shown, the sort order (most to least common or the reverse), and refresh the list. Hovering over a Pokémon shows its species, spawn chance, whether you've encountered it, how many you've caught or knocked out, and spawn requirements like skylight, weather or time of day.[2]
  • "Find em' all!" quest: it comes after PokeFinders and PokeNav, and asks for both tools. Clicking a Pokémon in the PokeNav opens its page, and if one is nearby you can track it. A Pokéball on your screen then points toward it and counts the blocks to it. The button left of Track adds that Pokémon to your PokéFinder, so you don't have to type names.[2]

Unverified Whether the ATM Star quest path makes use of this mod is not shown by the sources here. Check the pack's quest book for that.

How do you get started with Cobblemon PokeNav?

4 parts

Welcome to the PokeNav! The pack has a quest chapter that walks you through this mod in a clear order: first the "PokeNav" quest quest, then "PokeFinders" quest, and finally "Find em' all!" quest, which comes after both of those. We'll follow that same order here.[2]

First: craft the PokeNav

The Pokenav Item Base is the core tool. It shows you which Pokémon will (or can) spawn near you, and it's set to whatever biome you're standing in. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default, so use the one below.[2][4]

Open it and you get a long list of Pokémon. The buttons along the top change how rarity is sorted, most common to least or the reverse, and the last one refreshes the list. Hover over a Pokémon to see its species, its spawn chance, whether you've encountered it, how many you've caught or knocked out, and any spawn requirements such as skylight, weather or time of day.[2]

Tip: If you already have an Old PokéNav, the pack has a separate recipe that upgrades it into a PokeNav.[4]

Next: make a PokeFinder

The PokeFinder gives you a map of the Pokémon near you. You can open it and type in filters for the species you want, plus aspects and labels. Only Pokémon that match your filters show up on the map. Strict filters make it look only for Pokémon that have all the listed aspects or labels.[2]

It comes in black, blue, green, pink, red, white and yellow, such as Pokefinder Item Red and Pokefinder Item Blue, and the quest accepts any of those colours. Each colour has its own recipe, and the pack changed the recipe for each colour listed. Here is the red one as an example.[2][4]

The other colours have their own recipes in the pack.

Then: use them together

With both tools in your inventory, click a Pokémon in the PokeNav to open its page. If one is nearby, you'll see its stats and you can track it. While you track, a Pokéball on your screen points toward the Pokémon and counts how many blocks away it is.[2]

Typing Pokémon names is a pain, so use the button to the left of the Track button on a Pokémon's page to add it straight to your PokeFinder.[2]

Optional extras

  • The FishingNav predicts your catch with the mod's fishing spawn check. Press SHIFT and right-click to open it while fishing. The pack changed its recipe too.[1][4][5]
  • You can recolour your PokeNav with dye. A separate recipe turns a dyed PokeNav back into the base Pokenav Item Base.[4]

How does Cobblemon PokeNav work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Heads up: this mod isn't a machine mod. The sources describe handheld items only, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to cover here. What follows is how the PokéNav family of items works.[1]

The PokéNav

The PokéNav tells you which Pokémon may appear in the area you're standing in, the chances of them appearing, and the factors that influence their appearance. It's inspired by the item from Pokémon RSE and ORAS.[1]

It has a Location Screen, which shows what can be spotted where you are, and a Finder Screen, which helps you find the best Pokémon in your area and track it down. You can follow a Pokémon with a three-dimensional arrow or with the PokéFinder radar item.[1]

The info buttons on the screens have tooltips that explain what each entry shows:[5]

  • Name: the species of the Pokémon found.[5]
  • Type: the elemental type of the form of Pokémon found.[5]
  • Ability: the ability of the Pokémon found, marked with an exclamation mark if it's a hidden ability.[5]
  • Egg move: the egg move of the Pokémon found, marked with an exclamation mark if present.[5]

The mod works with add-ons that use Cobblemon's built-in Pokémon spawn system, so add-on Pokémon should show up too.[1]

Crafting your PokéNav

In this pack the base Pokenav Item Base recipe is changed from the mod's version. Here's the in-pack recipe:[6]

Colors and the Gholdengo variant

You can recolor a PokéNav with a shapeless recipe, one per color: a dye plus any PokéNav gives you that color, such as Pokenav Item Red or Pokenav Item Cyan. These are the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack.[6]

A separate shapeless recipe turns any dyed PokéNav back into the base Pokenav Item Base. There's also a Gholdengo-themed variant, Pokenav Item Gholdengo, crafted from an existing PokéNav and left unchanged by the pack.[6]

PokéFinder

The PokéFinder is a small radar device for people who find minimaps unfair or unaesthetic. The project page calls the radar easily configurable.[1]

It comes in several colors: Pokefinder Item Black, Pokefinder Item Blue, Pokefinder Item Green, Pokefinder Item Pink, Pokefinder Item Red, Pokefinder Item White and Pokefinder Item Yellow. Here's the in-pack recipe for the red one, which the pack changes from the mod's version:[6]

Unverified The sources don't explain how the PokéFinder radar is configured, and no config files for this mod were available for the pack, so its settings aren't documented here.

How do you progress through Cobblemon PokeNav?

4 parts

This mod has a short progression path in the pack's quest book, in the "Gotta Find Em' All" chapter. Along the way there are a few upgrade and variant recipes you can unlock. Here's the order I'd follow.[2][4]

First: the PokeNav

The "PokeNav" quest quest asks you to get a Pokenav Item Base. It shows what Pokemon will (or can) spawn near you, based on the biome you're in. Open it and you get a long list. The buttons on top change which rarity is shown and whether the list runs most common to least common or the reverse, and the last button refreshes the list.[2]

Hover over a Pokemon in the list to see its species, its spawn chance, whether you've encountered it, how many you've caught or knocked out, and any spawn requirements such as skylight, weather or time of day.[2]

The pack changed the PokeNav crafting recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here is the in-pack version:[4]

Next: the PokeFinder

The "PokeFinders" quest quest accepts a PokeFinder in any colour: black, blue, green, pink, red, white or yellow. It shows a map of Pokemon near you. You can open it and type in filters for species, aspects and labels, and only Pokemon that match are shown on the map. With strict filters on, a Pokemon must have all the listed aspects or labels to appear.[2]

Each colour has its own recipe. Here is the red one as an example, and the pack changed it.[4]

Finally: Find em' all!

The "Find em' all!" quest quest comes after both "PokeFinders" quest and "PokeNav" quest, and it asks for a PokeNav and a PokeFinder. Click a Pokemon in the PokeNav to open its page. If one is nearby, you'll see its stats and you can track it. While tracking, a Pokeball on your screen points toward the Pokemon and counts how many blocks away it is.[2]

Tip: Typing Pokemon names into the PokeFinder is a pain. When you're viewing a Pokemon in the PokeNav, use the button to the left of the Track button to add it to your PokeFinder filters instead.[2]

Optional extras

The recipe dump also has a FishingNav, and the pack changed its recipe too. The quests in this chapter don't cover it.[2][4]

You can also recolour a PokeNav, for example into the Pokenav Item Red or Pokenav Item Blue. Each dye colour has its own recipe, and these are the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack. Here is the red one as an example. A separate recipe turns any dyed PokeNav back into the base Pokenav Item Base.[4]

How does Cobblemon PokeNav work with other mods?

5 parts

Cobblemon PokeNav is an add-on for Cobblemon, and in this pack that link shows up in the crafting recipes. The PokeNav, FishingNav and PokeFinders all need Cobblemon items, so you have to get into Cobblemon's progression before you can craft any of them.[1][4]

PokeNav

The base Pokenav Item Base is crafted with Cobblemon items, so you need to be into Cobblemon's progression first. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own version.[4]

There is also a Gholdengo-themed PokeNav, Pokenav Item Gholdengo, made from an existing PokeNav plus Cobblemon items. This one is the mod's own recipe, and the pack did not change it.[4]

FishingNav

FishingNav is the fishing spawn checker, and the pack changed its recipe too. It mixes Cobblemon items with vanilla ones, as the recipe below shows.[1][4]

PokeFinders

PokeFinders come in black, blue, green, pink, red, white and yellow, and each color needs the matching Cobblemon apricorn. The red one, for example, uses Red Apricorn. Every color also needs an Electirizer and a vanilla Compass, and the pack changed all of these recipes.[4]

Tip: Plan your Cobblemon progression around the Electirizer. It appears in the PokeNav, FishingNav and PokeFinder recipes in this pack.[4]

Quests

The quest chapter "Gotta Find Em' All" walks you through these tools. "PokeNav" quest asks for the base PokeNav and "PokeFinders" quest asks for a PokeFinder in any color. "Find em' all!" quest comes after both and asks for a PokeNav and a PokeFinder together.[2]

The quest text says you can track a Pokemon from its page in the PokeNav, and add it to your PokeFinder with the button to the left of the Track button. The quest tasks themselves only check for PokeNav items, not for items from other mods.[2]

Other Cobblemon add-ons

The mod's project page says it works with add-ons that use Cobblemon's built-in Pokemon spawn system.[1]

Which All the Mons quests use Cobblemon PokeNav?

4 parts

All of this mod's quests sit in the chapter "Gotta Find Em' All". The first quests teach you the tools, and the last one asks you to combine them.[2]

The order

  1. "PokeFinders" quest and "PokeNav" quest have no prerequisites listed, so you can do them in either order.[2]
  2. "Find em' all!" quest comes after both of those quests.[2]

PokeFinders

This quest asks you to get a PokeFinder. Any colour counts: Pokefinder Item Black, Pokefinder Item Blue, Pokefinder Item Green, Pokefinder Item Pink, Pokefinder Item Red, Pokefinder Item White or Pokefinder Item Yellow.[2]

The quest text explains that the PokeFinder gives you a map of the Pokemon near you. You can open it and type in filters for the species you want, plus Aspects and Labels. Once the filters are set, only Pokemon that fit them show up on the map. If you make them Strict Filters and list several Aspects or Labels, it only looks for Pokemon that have all of them.[2]

PokeNav

Here you need a Pokenav Item Base. The quest describes it as a tool for seeing which Pokemon will (or can) spawn near you, based on the biome you are standing in.[2]

Opening it gives you a long list of Pokemon. The buttons on top change the rarity shown and whether the list runs from most to least common or the other way around. The last button refreshes the list. Hovering over a Pokemon shows its species, its spawn chance, whether you have encountered it, how many you have caught or knocked out, and any spawn requirements, such as skylight, weather or time of day.[2]

Find em' all!

This quest wants you holding both tools: the Pokenav Item Base and a PokeFinder of any colour. It comes after "PokeFinders" quest and "PokeNav" quest.[2]

The quest text shows how the tools work together. Clicking a Pokemon in the PokeNav opens its page, and if one is nearby it shows all of its stats. You can also track it. While tracking, a Pokeball on your screen points toward the Pokemon and counts how many blocks away it is.[2]

Tip: Don't want to type Pokemon names into your PokeFinder? When you view a Pokemon in the PokeNav, use the button to the left of the Track button to add it to your PokeFinder.[2]

What changed in Cobblemon PokeNav between versions?

3 parts

All the Mons 1.0.0-rc.6 ships Cobblemon PokeNav 2.3.3, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs for 2.3.3, 2.3.2 and 2.2.5. Versions in between aren't covered by the sources I have.[3][7][8][9]

2.3.3 (the version in this pack)

  • Instead of the Finder screen, tracking start buttons were added to the Location screen. They appear above Pokémon that are near you and replace the marks from earlier versions. Press one and the screen closes and tracking of the nearest selected Pokémon begins.[7]
  • The tracking arrow is now a custom model instead of a regular Poké Ball.[7]
  • Resource packs can now change some UI colors. So far only the text color in PokéFinder is customizable, and the changelog says more will come.[7]
  • Fixed the PokéFinder overlay ignoring changes to the filter list.[7]
  • The "Pokémon Labels" filter is now case-insensitive.[7]
  • The "Translated Name" filter now shows all Pokémon if you haven't entered any names.[7]

2.3.2

This version added three client config parameters. enableItemShaking decides whether the mod's items shake when there's a signal. enableDisplayOfNamesOnRadar decides whether Pokémon names show on the PokéFinder overlay. enableMultipleModelItems decides whether the mod's items can change their models, and the changelog says to disable it for compatibility with the current version of Cobblemon 3D Pokenavs.[8]

It also included a fix for the PokéFinder overlay freezing issue. The changelog words it as "hopefully" fixed, so treat it as an attempted fix rather than a guarantee.[8]

2.2.5

  • Compatibility fixes for the latest version of Cobblemon.[9]
  • Fixed a biome collector registration issue that caused missing biome data in tooltips and problems with biome platform selection.[9]
  • Old PokéNav was removed from the loot table of ancient city chests, and the chance of getting one by fishing was reduced.[9]
  • Fixed a rendering bug where a water block showed up as an empty block.[9]
