What is Cobblemon Battle Extras?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Cobblemon Battle Extras is a Cobblemon add-on that makes battles easier to read and easier to play. It expands the battle UI with more information, cleaner overlays, better tooltips and a stronger battle log. It focuses on quality of life and doesn't change Cobblemon's core mechanics. This pack includes version 1.13.45.[1][2]

What you get

  • A better battle HUD with turn counters for weather, terrain, room and screen effects. It also shows stat stages, entry hazard icons, volatile status icons, type icons on battlers and 3D in-battle nameplates.[1]
  • Detailed move tooltips covering power, accuracy, PP, priority, crit chance and effect info. Switch tooltips show your Pokémon's moves, ability and speed.[1]
  • A battle info panel that tracks the opponent's revealed moves, abilities and held items, plus a full weakness strip showing all types at once.[1]
  • A color-coded battle log with move links, damage percent on damaging move lines and several built-in color themes. Battles against players (PvP) and NPCs can be recorded, and the log viewer's default keybind is B.[1]
  • Keyboard support for battles and controller-friendly navigation. It's compatible with MidnightControls, Controllify and Controllable.[1]

Who it's for

If you want to know what's going on in a fight without guessing, this is for you. It supports wild battles, trainer battles, PvP, Battle Tower and co-op battles, so it's useful whether you're grinding routes or planning a competitive team.[1]

Almost every major feature can be toggled or adjusted in the config, so you can keep only the parts you like. Optional server-side synced settings are also supported for features like battle speed and hidden opponent ball types.[1]

Unverified Where this mod fits in the pack's progression is not confirmed by the available sources. Nothing shows it on the ATM Star path or tied to any quest, and the pack's own config values for it haven't been verified.

How do you get started with Cobblemon Battle Extras?

3 parts

Good news: there's nothing to craft or gather before you start with Cobblemon Battle Extras. It's a Cobblemon add-on that expands the battle UI with more information, cleaner overlays, better tooltips and stronger battle logging. It focuses on battle quality-of-life without changing Cobblemon's core mechanics.[1]

Unverified No recipes or quests for this mod's items could be confirmed in this pack, so there is no craft-first step to point you to. Everything below is about using the mod in battle.

Your first steps

  1. Start any battle. The mod supports wild battles, trainer battles, PvP, Battle Tower and co-op battles, so any of them will show the new HUD.[1]
  2. Look over the battle HUD. You get weather, terrain, room and screen turn counters, stat stage displays, entry hazard icons, volatile status icons and type icons on battlers, plus 3D in-battle nameplates.[1]
  3. Hover over your moves. The tooltips show power, accuracy, PP, priority, crit chance and effect info, and switch tooltips show your Pokemon's moves, ability and speed.[1]
  4. Check the Battle Info panel. It tracks the opponent's revealed moves, abilities and held items, and shows a full weakness strip with all types visible at once.[1]
  5. Open the battle log viewer. The battle log is color-coded, groups lines by player and opponent side, and shows damage percent on damaging move lines. The default keybind for the viewer is B.[1]

Keyboard and controller

The mod adds keyboard support for battles and controller-friendly navigation. It's compatible with MidnightControls, Controllify and Controllable. There are also options for a keybind to go back in menus and for pressing B to return to the battle menu.[1][3]

Tune it to your taste

Almost every major feature can be toggled or adjusted in the config, so you can keep only the parts you want. Options include battle speed, hiding the opponent's Pokeball types, skipping the confirmation when running from wild Pokemon, and skipping it when forfeiting against NPCs.[1][3]

Tip: If the extra overlays feel busy at first, turn off a few in the config and add them back one at a time. You can toggle things like turn counters, type icons, stat stages and hazard icons separately.[1][3]

Optional server-side synced settings are also supported for features like battle speed and hidden opponent ball types.[1]

How does Cobblemon Battle Extras work?

7 parts

This one is a bit different from the tech mods you might be used to. Cobblemon Battle Extras is a Cobblemon add-on that expands the battle interface. The sources describe no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for it. The mod focuses on battle quality-of-life and doesn't change Cobblemon's core mechanics, so its mechanics are the on-screen systems below, each controlled by a config option.[1]

Battle HUD

The HUD adds field information to the battle screen. It tracks weather, terrain, room and screen turn counters, and shows stat stages, entry hazard icons, volatile status icons and type icons on battlers. It also adapts type icons for Mega, Tera and other type-changing effects.[1]

Each piece has its own toggle, and in this pack they are all switched on: enableWeatherTerrain for weather and terrain, enableScreensDisplay for Light Screen, Reflect and similar, enableEntryHazards for hazards like Stealth Rock, enableVolatileStatusIcons for volatile effects, enableStatStages for boosts and drops, and enableTypeIcons for type icons. enableTurnCounter shows the current turn number and enablePokemonCount shows remaining Pokemon.[3][4]

Nameplates

The mod can draw 3D in-battle nameplates above Pokemon. In this pack enableBattleNameplates is on, nameplateStyle is 0, battleNameplateOpacity is 1 and battleNameplateBrightness is 0.5. That brightness setting is meant for adjusting nameplates when you use shaders. hideBattleTiles would hide the in-battle GUI nameplates, and it is off here.[1][3][4]

Tooltips and the battle info panel

Move tooltips show power, accuracy, PP, priority, crit chance and effect info. Switch tooltips show your Pokemon's moves, ability and speed. Both are enabled in this pack through enableMoveTooltips and enableSwitchTooltips. The mod also supplies short descriptions for status moves, such as Aqua Ring restoring HP each turn and Substitute taking damage in place of the user.[1][3][4]

The battle info panel, controlled by enableBattleInfoPanel, tracks the opponent's revealed moves, abilities and held items. It also shows a full weakness strip with every type visible at once. It is on in this pack, along with enableWeaknessTooltip and enableSpeedRange, which shows a speed comparison.[1][3][4]

Ability popups

enableAbilityPopups shows when abilities activate. In this pack the popups are on, not centered (abilityPopupCentered is false), and abilityPopupDuration is 3.[3][4]

Battle log

The enhanced battle log is color-coded and groups lines by player and opponent side. Move links have hover and click tooltips, and damaging move lines show a damage percent. In this pack the custom style (useEnhancedBattleLogStyle), coloring (enableBattleLogColoring), chat output (enableBattleLogChatMessages) and auto-expand (enableAutoExpandLog) are all on.[1][3][4]

The log layout in this pack uses battleLogWidth of 180, battleLogHeight of 120 and battleLogFontScale of 0.9. battleLogExpanded is true, and battleLogCustomPosition is false.[4]

Saving battle logs to a file is off in this pack, because enableBattleLogRecording is false. The mod supports battle log recording for PvP and NPC battles.[1][3][4]

Tip: Battle log recording is off in this pack. If you want to review your PvP or NPC fights later, set enableBattleLogRecording to true in the mod's config file.[1][3][4]

Controls and battle flow

The mod adds keyboard support and controller-friendly navigation for battles, and it is compatible with MidnightControls, Controllify and Controllable. In this pack enableControllerNavigation is false, so you need to enable it if you want to navigate the battle UI with a keyboard or controller. enableBButtonReenterBattle is on, so pressing B returns you to the battle menu.[1][3][4]

Some options skip confirmation prompts. enableInstantWildRun is on in this pack, so running from wild Pokemon skips the confirmation. enableInstantNPCForfeit is off, so forfeiting against NPCs still asks you to confirm.[3][4]

Server-synced settings

The mod supports optional server-side synced settings for features like battle speed and hidden opponent ball types. In this pack battleAnimationSpeed is 1 and hideOpponentPokeballTypes is false.[1][3][4]

Which Cobblemon Battle Extras config options matter?

4 parts

Cobblemon Battle Extras adds a lot of battle UI, and nearly all of it is switched on in this pack. Here are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values this pack sets in config/cobblemon-battle-extras.json.[4]

Battle flow

Battle log

The enhanced, color-coded log is on, via useEnhancedBattleLogStyle and enableBattleLogColoring. It starts expanded, with battleLogExpanded and enableAutoExpandLog both true. Chat messages are also on through enableBattleLogChatMessages.[4]

The log is sized with battleLogWidth at 180, battleLogHeight at 120, battleLogFontScale at 0.9 and battleLogScale at 1. battleLogCustomPosition is false, and battleLogX and battleLogY are both -1.[4]

enableBattleLogRecording is false here. The mod page describes battle log recording as covering PvP and NPC battles, so you need to enable it yourself if you want recordings.[1][4]

Popups and nameplates

HUD and tooltip toggles

These are all true in the pack: enableTurnCounter, enableWeatherTerrain, enableScreensDisplay, enableStatStages, enableEntryHazards, enableVolatileStatusIcons, enableTypeIcons, enableSpeedRange, enablePokemonCount and enableXPGainedDisplay. The info panel and tooltips are on too, through enableBattleInfoPanel, enableMoveTooltips, enableSwitchTooltips and enableWeaknessTooltip.[4]

Tip: If the battle screen feels crowded, set individual toggles from the list above to false. For reference, hideBattleTiles and hideOpponentPokeballTypes are both false, and enableDebugLogging is false.[4]

What changed in Cobblemon Battle Extras between versions?

2 parts

All the Mons 0.10.0-beta ships Cobblemon Battle Extras 1.7.26 (the NeoForge build). The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.4.0-beta or earlier, so you've had it for a good while.[5]

1.7.26

  • Fixed a z-layering issue on NeoForge.[6]
  • Fixed HUD batching.[6]
  • Fixed the weakness tooltip config not turning off the battle info panel. The changelog notes this one was for players of the What's Cobblemon Academy? setup.[6]
  • Added right-click unbind for the 'battle back key' config.[6]

1.7.24

This release fixed the translations for the new config screen.[7]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so which All the Mons release picked up each of these mod updates is unverified.
