What is Chisel Reborn?

2 parts

Chisel Reborn adds lots of blocks that are variations of vanilla blocks. The pack ships version 2.0.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. You use the Chisel to swap a block's design for another one.[1][2]

How the chisel works

Right click with the Chisel to open its GUI. Put up to a stack of blocks into it, pick the design you want, then take the blocks out. You can also leave them in the chisel, though the quest book doesn't see much reason to.[3]

For a quicker route, left click a block with the chisel to change its design without opening the GUI. The quest book also notes that this chisel has no durability, so you won't wear it out.[3]

Where it sits in the quest book

The mod's quest, "Chisel Reborn" quest, is in the "Building Tips" chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 in the book and has 63 quests. The chapter starts with "Building Tips!" quest, and "Tools!" quest comes right after it.[3]

After the tools quest comes "Changing Blocks" quest, which is about turning blocks you already have into different shapes and designs. "Chisel Reborn" quest comes directly after that one. "Camol" quest also follows "Changing Blocks" quest, so the two sit side by side.[3]

Not every quest in the chapter is covered here. Some of the 63 aren't shown in the material for this guide, so check the quest book itself for anything that follows the Chisel Reborn quest.[3]

Tip: Don't mix it up with "Cobblemon Stone Statues" quest. That quest is a different mod with its own statue chisel, which sits under the "Decor Mods!" quest rather than next to Chisel Reborn.[3]

How do you get started with Chisel Reborn?

3 parts

Chisel Reborn adds lots of blocks that are variations of vanilla blocks. Its language file shows the idea: you'll see names like Array Stone, Braid Oak Planks and Chaotic Cobblestone Bricks. Everything starts with one tool, the Chisel, so that's the first thing to make.[1][4]

Step 1: craft the Chisel

Recipe id: chisel:chisel

This is the pack's own version of the Chisel recipe.

The pack has changed this recipe, so don't trust what you remember from other modpacks. Use the recipe shown above.[5]

Step 2: change some blocks

  1. Right click with the Chisel to open its GUI.[3]
  2. Put up to a stack of blocks into it, then choose the design you want and take the blocks back out. You can also leave them in the Chisel, though the quest book admits it doesn't see why you would.[3]
  3. For a quick change, left click a block with the Chisel. That changes its design without opening the GUI.[3]
Tip: This Chisel has no durability, so you can keep changing designs without worrying about it breaking.[3]

Where it sits in the quest book

You'll find the "Chisel Reborn" quest quest in the Building Tips chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 in the book. It comes after "Changing Blocks" quest, which follows "Tools!" quest, which in turn follows "Building Tips!" quest. Its task is simply to get the Chisel.[3]

Other quests also come after Changing Blocks: "Rechiseled" quest, "Chipped" quest, "Camol" quest and "Framed Blocks" quest. If you want more ways to reshape your blocks once you have your Chisel, those are the ones to look at.[3]

How does Chisel Reborn work?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Chisel Reborn is a block-variation mod. The project page describes it as adding lots of blocks that are variations of vanilla blocks. The sources here don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for it.[1]

The chisel

The tool at the center of the mod is the Chisel. The pack changes its crafting recipe, so don't assume the mod's default recipe applies here. This is the recipe the pack uses:[6]

Recipe id: chisel:chisel

This recipe is changed by the pack.

Block variants

The mod's language file lists Reinforced Cobble Dirt and Reinforced Cobble Stone as both blocks and items. These are examples of the variant blocks the mod adds.[7]

Unverified How the chisel's GUI works and which variants each block can be turned into are not shown in the sources here. The project page only has a GUI heading with no explanation under it, no in-jar guidebook was available for this mod, and the pack has no config files for it.

How do you progress through Chisel Reborn?

3 parts

Good news: there's no tier ladder to climb with Chisel Reborn in this pack. The quest book and the recipe data point to one tool, the Chisel, and that's your whole progression. You craft it once, hand it in for the quest, and start changing block designs.[3][5]

Where the quest book puts it

The quest "Chisel Reborn" quest lives in the Building Tips chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 in the book. The path to it is short: "Building Tips!" quest, then "Tools!" quest, then "Changing Blocks" quest, then Chisel Reborn. The quest asks you to hand in the Chisel.[3]

Changing Blocks is a branching point. These quests also unlock straight after it, so you can do them in any order:[3]

Crafting the Chisel

The pack changes the Chisel recipe, so don't count on the mod's default. This is the exact in-pack recipe:[5]

Recipe id: chisel:chisel

Using it

The quest book describes two ways to change a block's design. The Chisel doesn't have durability, so use it as much as you like.[3]

  1. Right Click with the Chisel to open its GUI.[3]
  2. Put up to a stack of blocks into it, then choose the design you want.[3]
  3. Take the blocks back out. The quest notes you can leave them in the Chisel, though it doesn't see why you would.[3]
  4. Or skip the GUI: Left Click a block with the Chisel to change its design directly.[3]
Tip: Don't mix this up with the Statue Chisel from the Cobblemon Stone Statues quest. It's a different item for making Pokémon statues, and it doesn't have durability either.[3]

Which All the Mons quests use Chisel Reborn?

3 parts

Chisel Reborn has a single quest, and it lives in the "Building Tips" chapter of the quest book. That is chapter 3 of 70 and holds 63 quests, all about the tools and blocks that help you build.[3]

The path to the Chisel quest

  1. Start with "Building Tips!" quest, the opening quest of the chapter. It is a short intro with tips for building.[3]
  2. Next comes "Tools!" quest, which unlocks after the intro. It talks about tools for getting blocks, getting different versions of blocks, and placing blocks, and it asks you to start with a stick.[3]
  3. Then "Changing Blocks" quest, which also follows the tools quest. It is about mods that turn blocks you already have into ones with different shapes, designs, or even entirely new blocks.[3]
  4. Finally "Chisel Reborn" quest, which unlocks after Changing Blocks. It asks you to hand in a Chisel.[3]

What the quest tells you about the Chisel

The quest describes Chisel Reborn as a mod based on Chiseled, where you use the Chisel tool to change the design of some blocks. Right click with the Chisel to open its GUI. You can put up to a stack of blocks into it, pick the design you want, and take the blocks back out. You can also leave them inside the Chisel.[3]

If you don't want the GUI, left click a block with the Chisel to change its design directly. The quest also says this Chisel has no durability, so you won't wear it out.[3]

Neighbouring quests

The Chisel Reborn quest sits beside several other block-changing quests, all unlocked by Changing Blocks. They are "Rechiseled" quest, "Chipped" quest, "Camol" quest and "Framed Blocks" quest. Each one covers a different way of changing or disguising blocks, so you can tackle them in any order after Changing Blocks.[3]

Tip: Don't mix it up with "Cobblemon Stone Statues" quest. That quest is in the same chapter, but it belongs to the decor mods and is about a different mod with its own Statue Chisel. It even jokes that you've landed on the wrong quest.[3]

What changed in Chisel Reborn between versions?

1 part

Chisel Reborn has been in All the Mons since 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the pack. All the Mons 1.3.0 ships version 2.0.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

Chisel Reborn 2.0.1 for 1.21.1

The only change in the mod's own changelog for this version is a glass fix for 1.21.1. If you build with chiseled glass variants, this is the release that sorted that out for the version the pack runs on.[8]

Unverified The changelog doesn't say which glass blocks were affected or what exactly was wrong, and no All the Mons changelog entries about this mod were available, so earlier changes to Chisel Reborn across pack releases can't be confirmed.
