What is YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses rebuilds Minecraft's Nether fortresses from the ground up. Instead of the vanilla maze of bridges, you get fortresses that are much larger, more complex and more rewarding to explore.[1]
The mod is purely about world generation. It changes the fortresses you find in the Nether and doesn't add a crafting chain. That makes it a good fit if you enjoy exploring and want your Nether trips to feel like a real adventure.[1]
What a fortress looks like
Each fortress has three parts. Knowing them helps you get your bearings once you're inside:[1]
- The bridge networks, which link the fortress together across the Nether.[1]
- The Keep, the fortress's central structure.[1]
- The Lava Halls, which extend deep underground.[1]
Compatibility
The mod is designed to work alongside other worldgen mods, including Nether biome mods. It also has built-in Create compatibility: when Create is installed, some parts of a fortress have a chance to spawn using Create pieces. Create is optional and isn't required for the mod to run.[1]
This pack ships version 3.1.3 of the mod for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]
Unverified The sources don't confirm whether Create is in this pack, so it's unverified whether you'll see Create pieces in your fortresses.
Unverified The sources don't describe where these fortresses fit in this pack's progression. The mod has no quests in this pack and isn't on the ATM Star path.
How do you get started with YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses?
1 part
YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses completely redesigns Nether fortresses from the ground up. Compared to vanilla they are much larger, more complex and more rewarding.[1]
Each fortress has three parts: the bridge networks, the Keep, and the Lava Halls that extend deep underground. If you also run Create, some parts of a fortress have a chance of spawning with Create pieces. That's optional, and Create isn't required for the mod to run.[1]
Unverified The sources here show no recipes for this mod's items and no quests involving this mod in this pack, so they do not give a crafting order or quest order to follow.
What the item frames hold
The pack ships an item frame config for the mod, and it sets values for each room type. In every category the default item is "air", and the listed entries have the values below.[3]
- Alchemy: alchemyItems.entries.fire_charge is 0.2, alchemyItems.entries.magma_cream is 0.3 and alchemyItems.entries.quartz is 0.3.[3]
- Loot: lootItems.entries.gold_ingot is 0.1, lootItems.entries.gold_nugget is 0.2 and lootItems.entries.nether_wart is 0.1.[3]
- Mess hall: messHallItems.entries.cooked_porkchop is 0.3, messHallItems.entries.porkchop is 0.3 and messHallItems.entries.gold_ingot is 0.2.[3]
- Study: studyItems.entries.book is 0.4, while studyItems.entries.enchanted_book, studyItems.entries.paper and studyItems.entries.writable_book are each 0.1.[3]
- Weapons, gold: weaponItems.entries.golden_sword is 0.05 and weaponItems.entries.golden_axe is 0.05.[3]
- Weapons, iron: weaponItems.entries.iron_sword is 0.025 and weaponItems.entries.iron_axe is 0.025.[3]
- Weapons, stone and shield: weaponItems.entries.stone_sword is 0.025, weaponItems.entries.stone_axe is 0.025 and weaponItems.entries.shield is 0.025.[3]
- Weapons, netherite: weaponItems.entries.netherite_sword is just 0.005.[3]
The file doesn't say what the numbers mean in the game, so treat them as the pack's settings, not as a drop rate guarantee. Within the weapon entries, the netherite sword has the lowest value.[3]
How does YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses work?
2 parts
This mod redesigns Nether fortresses from the ground up, so there are no machines or multiblocks to run. What matters is how a fortress is put together and how the pack tunes the item frames inside it.[1]
How a fortress is built
Each Better Fortress has three parts: the bridge networks, the Keep, and the Lava Halls that extend deep underground. Compared to vanilla they are much larger and more complex.[1]
If Create is installed, certain parts of the fortress have a chance of spawning using Create pieces. This is optional, and the mod doesn't need Create to run.[1]
Item frame contents
The pack's item frame config covers alchemy, loot, mess hall, study and weapon items. Every group has a default item of "air" and a list of items with a number beside each one. Here are the values as the pack sets them.[3]
- Alchemy: alchemyItems.entries.fire_charge is 0.2, alchemyItems.entries.magma_cream is 0.3 and alchemyItems.entries.quartz is 0.3. The default item (alchemyItems.defaultItem) is "air".[3]
- Loot: lootItems.entries.gold_ingot is 0.1, lootItems.entries.gold_nugget is 0.2 and lootItems.entries.nether_wart is 0.1. The default item (lootItems.defaultItem) is "air".[3]
- Mess hall: messHallItems.entries.cooked_porkchop is 0.3, messHallItems.entries.porkchop is 0.3 and messHallItems.entries.gold_ingot is 0.2. The default item (messHallItems.defaultItem) is "air".[3]
- Study: studyItems.entries.book is 0.4, while studyItems.entries.enchanted_book, studyItems.entries.paper and studyItems.entries.writable_book are each 0.1. The default item (studyItems.defaultItem) is "air".[3]
- Weapons, gold: weaponItems.entries.golden_sword and weaponItems.entries.golden_axe are each 0.05.[3]
- Weapons, iron and stone: weaponItems.entries.iron_sword, weaponItems.entries.iron_axe, weaponItems.entries.stone_sword, weaponItems.entries.stone_axe and weaponItems.entries.shield are each 0.025.[3]
- Weapons, rarest: weaponItems.entries.netherite_sword is just 0.005. The weapon default item (weaponItems.defaultItem) is "air".[3]
Which YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses config options matter?
1 part
The only config file for this mod that the pack's sources show is the item frame file, config/betterfortresses/forge-1_20/itemframes.json. It is split into alchemy, loot, mess hall, study and weapons groups. Each group has a default item and a set of per-item entries with a number next to them.[3]
In this pack, every group's default item is "air": alchemyItems.defaultItem, lootItems.defaultItem, messHallItems.defaultItem, studyItems.defaultItem and weaponItems.defaultItem.[3]
Entries the pack sets
- Alchemy: alchemyItems.entries.fire_charge is 0.2, while alchemyItems.entries.magma_cream and alchemyItems.entries.quartz are each 0.3.[3]
- Loot: lootItems.entries.gold_ingot is 0.1, lootItems.entries.gold_nugget is 0.2 and lootItems.entries.nether_wart is 0.1.[3]
- Mess hall: messHallItems.entries.cooked_porkchop and messHallItems.entries.porkchop are each 0.3, and messHallItems.entries.gold_ingot is 0.2.[3]

- Weapons, rarest: weaponItems.entries.netherite_sword is the lowest value in the file at 0.005.[3]
What changed in YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses between versions?
1 part
There isn't much version history to tell for YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses in this pack, and that's a good sign: it's a quiet mod. Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships version 1.20-Forge-2.0.6 of the mod, and it was already in the pack by 0.0.45.4 or earlier.[4]
Mod changelog: 1.20-Forge-2.0.6
- Removed log spam that appeared when other mods had an invalid basalt column feature. This only affects your game logs, not how the fortresses look or play.[5]
The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so I can't tell you about any pack-level changes to it, such as config tweaks or recipe changes. Older mod versions aren't covered by the sources I have either.[4]

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as betterfortresses, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
