What is Default World Type?

2 parts

Default World Type does one small job: it lets you choose which world type is already selected when someone opens the Create New World screen. It is aimed mainly at modpack creators, and it helps you avoid generating the wrong kind of world by accident.[1]

The mod's own example is a pack with Skyblock Builder installed. If you set the client config value to skyblockbuilder:skyblock, players don't have to switch to that world type themselves when they make a new world. That is only the mod page's example, so don't assume this pack uses that value.[1]

Good to know

  • The mod is client only. For servers, you should provide the right server properties instead, or use the Default Server Properties mod.[1]
  • Once you enter the Create New World screen, the mod generates a file listing the allowed config values.[1]

In this pack

This pack includes Default World Type 1.20.1-4.0.5. It has been in the pack since version 0.0.45.4 or earlier.[2]

How do you get started with Default World Type?

2 parts

This one is a little different from most mods you'll meet: there's nothing to craft first. It only changes which world type is pre-selected on the Create World screen, so your very first step happens before you even load in.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Open the Create World screen and look at the world type. In this pack the default is set to the Skyblock Builder skyblock type, so you don't need to switch to it yourself.[1][3]
  2. Check that the type shown is the one you want before you hit create. The whole point of the mod is that you're far less likely to generate the wrong world by accident.[1]
  3. If you want something else, use the preset selection button on that screen. The pack leaves this button enabled, and the list of allowed world types is empty, which means every world type is available.[3]

What the pack sets

The default type comes from world-preset.world-preset, and in this pack it is set to skyblockbuilder:skyblock. That is the pack's own value, and it is what makes new worlds start as skyblock.[1][3]

Tip: The mod is client only. If you run a server, the world type there comes from the server's own properties, not from this mod. Also, the mod generates a file listing the allowed config values the first time you enter the Create New World screen, which is handy if you want to edit the config.[1]

How does Default World Type work?

2 parts

This mod has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item handling to learn. It does one job: it chooses which world type is already selected when you open the Create World screen, so you don't have to pick it yourself each time.[1]

How it works

The mod is client only. The world type is set in its client config, and a new world starts with that type selected. The mod's page gives Skyblock Builder as an example: set the value to a skyblock world type and nobody has to switch to it by hand, which makes generating the wrong world much less likely.[1]

Because it's client only, it doesn't decide anything for a dedicated server. The mod's page says servers should simply be given the right server properties file, or use a separate default server properties mod.[1]

The mod also generates a file listing the allowed config values the first time you enter the Create New World screen. That's handy when you want to check what you can type into the config.[1]

What this pack sets

In this pack the default world type is set to the Skyblock Builder skyblock type, via world-preset.world-preset. When you create a new world, skyblock is already selected.[3]

  • world-preset.allowed-world-types is an empty list in this pack. When it's empty, all world types are available in the world selection screen.[3]
  • world-preset.disable-button is false in this pack, so the preset selection button in the world selection screen stays enabled and you can still change the type.[3]
  • world-preset.flat-settings holds the generation setting used for the flat world type: "minecraft:bedrock,2*minecraft:dirt,minecraft:grass_block;minecraft:plains". It only works if the world type is 'minecraft:flat'.[3]
  • world-preset.single-biome-biome is "minecraft:plains". It only works if the world type is 'minecraft:single_biome_surface'.[3]
Tip: The flat settings and single biome options only apply when their own world type is the default. Since this pack defaults to skyblock, those two values don't affect a new world unless you change the default world type.[3]

Which Default World Type config options matter?

2 parts

Default World Type is a client-only mod that picks which world type is selected when you open the Create World screen. All of its options live in config/defaultworldtype/client-config.toml. Here is how this pack sets each one.[1][3]

The option you will care about most

world-preset.world-preset is the world type that is selected by default. This pack sets it to skyblockbuilder:skyblock, so a new world starts on the Skyblock Builder skyblock type and you don't have to change it yourself. The mod's own description uses this same value as its example, and the idea is that you are much less likely to generate the wrong kind of world by accident.[1][3]

The other options

  • world-preset.disable-button is false in this pack. That means the preset selection button in the world selection screen is not disabled.[3]
  • world-preset.allowed-world-types is an empty list in this pack. When it is empty, all world types are available in the world selection screen.[3]
  • world-preset.flat-settings is set to "minecraft:bedrock,2*minecraft:dirt,minecraft:grass_block;minecraft:plains". It only works if the world type is minecraft:flat, so with the skyblock default it has no effect unless the preset is changed.[3]
  • world-preset.single-biome-biome is set to minecraft:plains. It only works if the world type is minecraft:single_biome_surface, so it is also unused with the current default.[3]
Tip: The mod is client only, so this config only changes what your own Create World screen selects. For servers, the mod page says to provide the right server properties file instead.[1]

What changed in Default World Type between versions?

2 parts

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Default World Type 1.20.1-4.0.5. The mod was already in the pack by 0.0.45.4 or earlier. No pack changelog entries mention it, so the notes below come from the mod's own changelogs for the two most recent versions.[2]

1.20.1-4.0.5 (the version in this pack)

  • Single biome settings are now supported in the config.[4]
  • A new config option lets you set only specific available world types.[4]
  • A new toggle lets you disable the preset selection button.[4]

1.20.1-4.0.4

  • The config for flat map configuration was re-added.[5]

The changelogs don't say what values the pack uses for any of these options, so check the mod's config file in your own instance if you want to see how they are set.[4][5]

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as defaultworldtype, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
