What is CobbleForDays?

1 part

CobbleForDays is a simple cobblestone generator with no frills. It comes in 5 tiers, from Cobble Gen Tier1 up to Cobble Gen Tier5. The author built it as a standalone block mainly for servers, because one ticking block entity is far more performant than lots of in-world cobble generators. This pack includes version 1.8.0 of the mod.[1][2]

Each tier has its own settings in the server config: how many items the internal buffer can hold, how many items it generates per update, how many ticks pass between updates, and whether it automatically pushes into inventories above it.[1]

Unverified The values this pack uses for each tier, and the pack's own crafting recipes for the generators, are not confirmed in the sources I have. The mod's project page only says its default recipes can be edited in data packs.

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book has the generator in two places. In the chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44), the quest "Cobblestone Generator" quest asks you for Cobble Gen Tier1.[3]

The full upgrade line is in "The Beginning" (group "Storyline", chapter 4 of 44). It starts after the Lava quest, so "Lava" quest comes right before it. The quest book then chains the tiers like this:[4]

  1. a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier1. Its subtitle is "No More Right Clicking".[4]
  2. a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier2.[4]
  3. a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier3.[4]
  4. a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier4.[4]
  5. a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier5. No other quest in the chapter lists it as a prerequisite.[4]

How do you get started with CobbleForDays?

2 parts

CobbleForDays is a simple standalone cobblestone generator block with 5 tiers, so you can stop right-clicking and let a machine make your cobblestone. Cobble Gen Tier1 is the one to build first, and the other four tiers are upgrades on top of it.[1][5][6]

Step 1: build the first generator

The quest book puts this early. In the Storyline group, chapter "The Beginning" (chapter 4 of 44), the quest a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier1 and comes right after the Lava quest "Lava" quest. So once you have lava sorted out, this is your next goal.[4]

This is the mod's own recipe for the first tier, which the pack leaves as it is.

The chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44) also has a quest called "Cobblestone Generator" quest, which asks for the same Cobble Gen Tier1.[3]

Step 2: upgrade through the tiers

The recipes for tiers 2 to 5 are added by the pack, so you will not find them in the mod's defaults. The quest book follows the same order: a quest in "The Beginning", then a quest in "The Beginning", then a quest in "The Beginning", and finally a quest in "The Beginning". Each one comes after the previous tier's quest.[4][6]

Tip: Each upgrade recipe takes the previous tier's generator as its base, so keep your current one until you are ready to craft the next. Check the recipe blocks above before you start gathering materials.[6]

Unverified How fast each tier generates cobblestone and how much it can hold in this pack is not shown in the sources here. The mod page says each tier has settings in the server config file, but no config file for this mod was available to check.

How does CobbleForDays work?

3 parts

This mod is a plain cobblestone generator with no frills, so there are no multiblocks, power or fluid pipes to set up. You place a block and it makes cobblestone for you. It comes in five tiers: Cobble Gen Tier1, Cobble Gen Tier2, Cobble Gen Tier3, Cobble Gen Tier4 and Cobble Gen Tier5.[1][5]

How a generator works

Each generator is a standalone block, made mainly to help servers. The author's reasoning is that one ticking block entity is far more performant than a bunch of them, and than cobblestone generated in the world by lava and water meeting.[1]

Every tier keeps an internal buffer of items. It adds new items to that buffer at a set interval, and it can also push them out automatically into inventories above the block.[1]

Per-tier settings

Each tier has its own settings in the server config file. The project page lists four options per tier: the maximum number of items held in the buffer, how many items are generated per update, how many ticks pass between updates, and whether the block pushes to inventories above it.[1]

The example on the project page shows a maximum of 64, a count of 1, an interval of 40 ticks and pushing switched on. Treat those as the mod's example values, not as numbers for this pack.[1]

Unverified This pack has no config file for the mod among the sources, so the real buffer size, output count, interval and pushing setting for each tier are unconfirmed. The sources also don't say how the tiers differ in output.

Tip: Because the generator can push into inventories above it, putting a chest or another inventory directly on top is the simple way to automate it. Check that the pushing option is enabled for your tier, since that is a config setting.[1]

Crafting the tiers

The first tier uses the mod's own recipe. Its crafting uses a water bucket and a lava bucket.[6]

The pack adds the recipes for tiers 2 to 5 itself with a script. Each one upgrades the tier below it, and each also needs a lava bucket and a water bucket.[6][7]

The mod's default recipes can be edited with data packs, and this pack's script is what defines the upgrade chain for the higher tiers. Follow the recipes shown above rather than anything you remember from the mod alone.[1][7]

How do you progress through CobbleForDays?

2 parts

CobbleForDays gives you a five-step ladder of cobblestone generators in this pack: Cobble Gen Tier1, Cobble Gen Tier2, Cobble Gen Tier3, Cobble Gen Tier4 and Cobble Gen Tier5. You climb it one tier at a time, and the quest book lists the tiers in that same order.[4][6]

The quest path

The tier quests sit in the "The Beginning" chapter, in the Storyline group (chapter 4 of 44 in the book). The first one, a quest in "The Beginning" ("No More Right Clicking"), unlocks after the Lava quest "Lava" quest. From there it is a straight chain: a quest in "The Beginning", then a quest in "The Beginning", then a quest in "The Beginning", and finally a quest in "The Beginning". Each quest simply asks you to have that tier's generator.[4]

The chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44) also has a "Cobblestone Generator" quest quest, which asks for the tier 1 generator.[3]

Crafting each tier

Tier 1 is crafted with the mod's own recipe.[6]

Tiers 2 to 5 are recipes the pack adds with a KubeJS script. Every one of them is an upgrade: it takes the previous tier's generator and turns it into the next one.[6][7]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use CobbleForDays?

2 parts

CobbleForDays shows up in two chapters of the pack's quest book. The main one is the Storyline chapter "The Beginning", where the quest book has a five-quest chain for the generators. There is also a single entry in "Useful mods and Items".[3][4]

The Beginning: the Tier 1 to Tier 5 chain

Each quest in the chain asks for one generator, and each follows the previous tier in the quest book.[4]

  1. a quest in "The Beginning" (subtitle "No More Right Clicking") asks for Cobble Gen Tier1. In the quest book it comes after "Lava" quest, which asks for a lava bucket.[4]
  2. a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier2 and follows the Tier 1 quest.[4]
  3. a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier3 and follows the Tier 2 quest.[4]
  4. a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier4 and follows the Tier 3 quest.[4]
  5. a quest in "The Beginning" asks for Cobble Gen Tier5 and follows the Tier 4 quest.[4]

In the quest book, the lava quest follows a quest titled Crucible, and the book has two quests with that title: "Crucible" quest and "Crucible" quest. "Obsidian" quest also follows the lava quest, so the generator chain and the obsidian quest both branch from it.[4]

Useful mods and Items: Cobblestone Generator

In this chapter, "Cobblestone Generator" quest asks for the same Cobble Gen Tier1 item. It is the only CobbleForDays quest listed in this chapter.[3]

What changed in CobbleForDays between versions?

2 parts

This pack ships CobbleForDays 1.8.0 (CobbleForDays-1.8.0.jar). It has been in Project Infinity since 0.0.45.4 or earlier.[2]

Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so changes between pack releases are not documented here.

Minecraft version ports

The mod's own changelog is mostly a trail of ports to newer Minecraft versions. The 1.8.0 entry is listed only as 1.20.1, with no further detail, so what the pack has right now is the 1.20.1 build.[8]

  • 1.8.0: listed as 1.20.1.[8]
  • 1.7.0: listed as 1.19.3.[8]
  • 1.6.0: listed as 1.19.2.[8]

Notable fixes and features

Outside the ports, a few changes are worth knowing about. The early versions are where the mod got its look and its caching.[8]

  • 1.0.1 created the models and added backend changes to support them.[8]
  • 1.0.3 added capability caching, and 1.0.10 added caching of a neighbor's inventory.[8]
  • 1.1.2 fixed a stall caused by accessing the world during onLoad.[8]
  • 1.1.3 fixed blocks culling incorrect faces around the gens.[8]
