What is Stone Chest?

2 parts

Stone Chest is a small, simple mod with one job: it gives you stone variations of the vanilla chest. The idea behind it is the situation where you need a chest but don't have any wood on you. In a pack all about stone, that fits nicely.[1]

The pack includes Stone Chest 1.3.0, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

What you get

The mod adds chests made from a long list of stone-type blocks. That covers the everyday ones like Stone, Cobblestone, Smooth Stone and Stone Bricks, plus the Andesite, Diorite and Granite families. You also get Deepslate, Tuff, Basalt and Blackstone variants, as well as Calcite, Dripstone and Prismarine, Prismarine Bricks and Dark Prismarine.[1]

Many of these come in several forms. For example, Deepslate has polished, brick, tile, cracked and chiseled versions, and Stone Bricks has cracked, mossy and chiseled versions.[1]

Who it is for

This one is for you if you like storage that matches your build, or if you want a chest without needing wood. It is a good fit for decorating a base in stone, deepslate or blackstone tones.[1]

Unverified Where Stone Chest fits in this pack's progression is not confirmed by the available sources. The sources also don't cover the crafting recipes, storage size or any config options, so check in-game before you plan around them.

How do you get started with Stone Chest?

3 parts

Stone Chest gives you vanilla-style chests made from stone-type blocks, so you can set up storage even when you have no wood on you. The styles include Cobblestone, Stone, Deepslate, Tuff, Prismarine and Blackstone, plus polished, cracked, mossy and chiseled variants.[1]

Make the part first

You don't craft a chest straight from the stone block. Each style has its own part item, and the chest recipe takes that matching part. A good place to start is the Cobblestone Part, since Cobblestone is usually the easiest stone to get.[3]

Then craft the chest

With the part in hand, craft the matching chest. For the example above, that gives you a Cobblestone Chest.[3]

The finished Cobblestone Chest, also a mod recipe in the pack data.

Picking a style

Every other style follows the same pattern: a part for that stone type, then a chest from that part. If you want a smoother look, try the Smooth Stone Part and then the Smooth Stone Chest.[3]

Tip: Only the style changes between recipes. Pick the look you like, such as Deepslate Chest or Tuff Chest, and craft its part and then the chest in the same order. The recipe data marks all of these as the mod's own recipes, with no pack changes shown.[1][3]

How does Stone Chest work?

2 parts

Stone Chest is a simple mod, and that shapes this section. It adds stone-themed variants of the vanilla chest, so you can build storage even when you have no wood on you. The sources describe only chests and their matching parts, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid systems to cover here.[1][3]

What the mod adds

The mod provides chests made from many stone types. These include cobblestone, deepslate, tuff, basalt, blackstone, calcite, dripstone and dark prismarine, plus polished, chiseled, cracked and mossy forms. Examples are the Cobblestone Chest, the Deepslate Tiles Chest and the Chiseled Tuff Bricks Chest.[1][3]

Parts and crafting

Each chest has a matching part item, such as the Cobblestone Part for the Cobblestone Chest. You craft the chest from its part in a shaped crafting recipe. The recipe dump marks these as mod recipes.[3]

4 × Cobblestone Part

In the recipe dump, each chest listed is crafted from its own matching part.

The same one-part-to-one-chest pattern shows up for other variants in the dump, for example the Basalt Chest from the Basalt Part and the Calcite Chest from the Calcite Part.[3]

How do you progress through Stone Chest?

2 parts

Stone Chest doesn't give you a ladder of tiers to climb in this pack. What the recipes show is a big set of chest variants, one per stone-type block, and they all follow the same crafting chain: a part first, then the chest.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest chapter that covers Stone Chest, so there is no questline order to follow for it. Check the pack's quest book yourself if you want to be sure.

The crafting chain

Every chest starts as a part. You craft the part from its matching stone block, then craft the chest from that part. The Stone variant shows the pattern: first the Stone Part, then the Stone Chest.[3]

Then turn that part into the finished chest.

Other variants follow the same route, for example Cobblestone Chest, Deepslate Bricks Chest and Dark Prismarine Chest. Each one has its own part recipe and its own chest recipe.[3]

Polished variants with Create

The pack adds Create sandpaper polishing recipes that turn a finished chest into its polished version. These come from the pack, not from the mod on its own. They cover these chests:[3]

Tip: If you already have a plain chest of one of those stones, sandpaper polishing is a handy way to get the polished version. The polished chests also have their own regular crafting recipes, such as the one for the Polished Granite Chest.[3]

What changed in Stone Chest between versions?

1 part

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships with Stone Chest 1.3.0, and the mod has been in the pack since FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so the history below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]

Mod releases

  • 1.0.0: the NeoForge port for Minecraft 1.21.1 to 1.21.2.[4]
  • 1.3.0: fixed the missing Stone and Smooth Stone chests. This is the version you get in the pack.[2][5]

The sources don't cover the releases between 1.0.0 and 1.3.0, so I can't tell you what changed in them.[4][5]
