What is Random Bone Meal Flowers?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Random Bone Meal Flowers is a small quality-of-life mod that changes which flowers you get when you use bone meal. Instead of being limited to the flowers that belong to the biome you're standing in, bone meal can spawn any flower type, modded ones included, anywhere.[1]

The mod's own pitch is that you won't have to travel thousands of blocks for your automatic flower farm. If you want a particular flower, you don't have to go hunting for the right biome first.[1]

This pack includes version 4.7 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

Who it's for

It's for anyone who wants flowers without exploring for them. That includes flower farms, dye collection and decoration, and anything else where you need a specific flower type and don't want to depend on biome placement.[1]

Controlling which flowers appear

On the first world load, the mod generates a blacklist.txt file in the config/randombonemealflowers folder, listing the names of all flowers. To stop a flower type from spawning, put an exclamation mark in front of its name. The mod's page gives the example of keeping only red tulips by doing this for every other flower.[1]

Tip: The blacklist file is only created once you've loaded a world, so if you can't find it, load into a world first and check the config folder again.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified The sources I have don't place this mod in any quest or progression path, and they don't show any changes the pack makes to it. Treat it as a passive helper that works whenever you use bone meal on flowers, rather than something you unlock or craft toward.

How do you get started with Random Bone Meal Flowers?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: there's nothing to craft to get going with this mod. Random Bone Meal Flowers is a minimalistic mod that randomizes which flowers bone meal spawns. Any flower type, modded ones included, can show up anywhere, so you don't have to travel thousands of blocks to find the flower you want for an automatic flower farm.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Grab some bone meal and use it on grass, as you normally would. The mod randomizes the flowers that come up, so you can collect different flower types in one spot instead of hunting through biomes.[1]
  2. Load into a world at least once. The mod generates a blacklist.txt file in the config/randombonemealflowers folder on first world load, and it lists the names of all flowers.[1]
  3. Open that file if you want to control what grows. Put an exclamation mark in front of a flower's name to stop that flower from spawning. For example, you could block everything except red tulips if that's all you want.[1]
Tip: The blacklist file only appears after you've loaded a world once, so if you can't find it, join a world first and then check the config folder again.[1]

What to know about this pack

The mod's project page describes the behavior above. It doesn't mention any items or recipes for the mod, so there are no recipe blocks in this section.[1]

Unverified Whether the pack changes the default blacklist, and which modded flowers are part of the random pool here, couldn't be confirmed from the available sources. Check the generated blacklist.txt in your own instance to see exactly which flowers are included.

How does Random Bone Meal Flowers work?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Random Bone Meal Flowers doesn't add machines, multiblocks, or power and fluid systems. It's a minimalistic mod that changes one behavior: the flowers you get when you use bone meal.[1]

What bone meal does now

Normally, the flowers bone meal spawns depend on where you are. With this mod, bone meal randomizes the flowers it spawns, and every flower type can appear everywhere. Modded flowers are included too.[1]

This matters for automation. You don't have to travel thousands of blocks to the right biome to build an automatic flower farm. You can build it wherever you like and get a random mix of flowers.[1]

Controlling which flowers spawn

On first world load, the mod generates a blacklist.txt file in the config/randombonemealflowers folder. It lists the names of all flowers. To stop a flower type from spawning, put an exclamation mark in front of its name. The mod's project page gives red tulips as an example, for when you only want that one flower to spawn.[1]

  1. Load a world once so the mod can generate blacklist.txt.[1]
  2. Open blacklist.txt in the config/randombonemealflowers folder.[1]
  3. Add an exclamation mark in front of each flower name you want to stop from spawning.[1]

Unverified The pack ships no config files for this mod, so whether it changes the default blacklist is unconfirmed. The details above come from the mod's own project page. The sources also say nothing about item handling, such as which blocks or dispensers can trigger the randomized spawning.

What changed in Random Bone Meal Flowers between versions?

1 part

StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Random Bone Meal Flowers 4.7 (randombonemealflowers-1.21.1-4.7.jar). The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier, so it's been part of StoneBlock 4 from the start.[3]

Version 4.7

  • Removed redundant event register annotations on Forge and NeoForge.[4]
  • This fixes events loading when they shouldn't.[4]

That's the only entry I have for this mod. It's a behind-the-scenes fix, so you shouldn't see any change in how the flowers work.[4]

Unverified Changes in versions of the mod before 4.7, and any pack changelog entries mentioning this mod, could not be confirmed from the available sources.

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as randombonemealflowers, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
