What is Qliphoth Awakening?
Qliphoth Awakening is in the pack's mod list, and this pack ships version 2.0.9 (the 1.21.1 build of the mod). It has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the modpack rather than a recent addition.[1]
The clearest hint of where it fits is the quest book. The mod shows up in the bounty_board chapter. A quest there asks you to hand in the Malkuth Trophy (a quest in "?"). Another asks for the Chesed Trophy and also has structure tasks (a quest in "?").[2]
So if you follow the quest book, you'll meet this mod through those trophy quests. Both quests are untitled in the pack files, and the structure tasks don't say which structures you need to find.[2]
Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star path uses this mod, and they include no description or guidebook of what the mod adds beyond these trophies.
How do you get started with Qliphoth Awakening?
4 parts
Qliphoth Awakening is a boss mod, so your first steps are about getting ready for fights, not crafting. The bosses you'll meet are Chesed and Malkuth, and the pack's quest book points you at both of them.[2][3]
Know what the quest book asks
The pack has a bounty_board quest chapter built around these bosses. One quest wants the Malkuth Trophy (a quest in "?"). Another wants the Chesed Trophy plus structure tasks (a quest in "?"). Both trophies are boss drops, so you need to beat each boss to finish these quests.[2][3]
Prepare for Chesed
Chesed is a creature born out of rocks corroded by sculk, and it wields enormous magic power. The mod's own description recommends a Diamond Axe as the weapon type for this fight.[3]
- Chesed cannot be hurt directly, and its arena cannot be easily escaped from. All damage it deals cannot be lowered by any resistances.[3]
- While Chesed is alive, everyone in the fight gets night vision. If you look away from Chesed, you get an extreme level of blindness (the Chesed Gaze effect), so keep your eyes on it.[3]
- Chesed spawns 4 monoliths. They deactivate when they die and can't be damaged afterwards. Its big lightning strike hits harder the more monoliths are still active.[3]
- The fight moves to its second phase when Chesed's health drops below 50%. Several attacks get stronger or more frequent from then on.[3]
Prepare for Malkuth
Malkuth is described as a benevolent king whose blind, excessive generosity became his kingdom's demise. The developer's note says it's better to fight him at night. He also wields impenetrable armor that can neglect any damage, so expect a tougher fight than a normal mob.[3]
Use the boss drops
Both bosses drop trophies to showcase your heroic deeds. They also drop cores that upgrade your gear, described below.[3]
- Chesed's Lightning Core can be applied to any weapon in a crafting table. Attacks with that weapon then have a chance to strike the target with Chesed lightning, which does a percentage of the weapon's damage and inflicts the Shocked effect.[3]
- Malkuth's Fire and Ice Core can be attached to any item that has damage. Using the item releases a fireball that ignites targets, and crouching while using it releases an iceball that slows them instead.[3]
How does Qliphoth Awakening work?
8 parts
This mod is all about boss fights. The sources I have don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item automation for it, so this section covers what its in-game descriptions and the pack's config do explain: the two bosses, the effects involved, the two boss-drop cores, and the arena and damage settings.[3][4]
Unverified How to summon the bosses, where their arenas are, and how the boss drops are obtained are not confirmed by the available sources. No recipes producing this mod's items were found either.
Chesed
The mod's description for Chesed's Mightiness skill says Chesed can't be hurt directly and its arena can't easily be escaped from. Resistances can't lower any damage it deals. While it's alive, every combatant gets Night Vision, and a player who looks away from Chesed is hit with Chesed's Gaze, an extreme level of blindness. Chesed moves to its second phase when its HP drops below 50%.[3]
Per its Monoliths skill description, Chesed spawns 4 monoliths. When a monolith dies it deactivates and can't be damaged anymore. In the second phase the monoliths gain extra HP, and this pack sets that gain to 50 via chesedConfig.additionalSecondPhaseMonolithHP.[3][4]
Per its Final skill description, Chesed's final attack drains power from the monoliths and then strikes everyone on the battlefield. The damage depends on how many monoliths are in an active state, and the monoliths are invulnerable while it's cast. Deactivated monoliths become active again once the attack ends. This pack sets chesedConfig.finalAttackDamagePercentPerMonolith to 30.[3][4]
Crystals, rays and the Energized effect
According to the Crystals skill description, Chesed casts this ability before the lightning ray attack. It destroys all crystals and then summons 1 crystal on each side of the battlefield. A player who destroys a crystal gets the Chesed Energized effect.[3]
Per the effect and Lightning Ray descriptions, the ray deals 0 damage to a target with the Energized effect. Each time that target is hit by the ray, the effect level drops by 1, and the effect is removed if a ray reflector was also hit. Players with the effect charge nearby ray reflectors, and if the target is a charged ray reflector, Chesed takes 1 damage.[3]
Chesed's other attacks
These come from the mod's skill descriptions, with damage numbers from the pack's config.[3][4]
- Earthquake: slams the earth, emitting a shockwave and lightnings that travel out from Chesed. In the second phase more lightnings are summoned and their movement speed is increased. The pack's damage value is 5.[3][4]
- Rockfall: fires a lightning beam at the ceiling so it crumbles, while lightnings are summoned around combatants. The second phase increases their amount and frequency. The pack's rock damage is 5.[3][4]
- Roll: Chesed rolls around the arena, damaging and pushing away everyone who steps in its way, and leaves a fire trail behind in the second phase. The pack's roll damage is 8 and its fire trail damage is 2.[3][4]
- Blocks: tears blocks out of the earth and hurls them onto the target. The pack's damage is 10.[3][4]
- Electric spheres: ball lightnings that travel out from Chesed and cannot be reflected. The pack's damage is 10.[3][4]
- Kinetic field: used only in the second phase. It traps players in a kinetic field that doesn't allow them to escape, and lightnings are summoned periodically in all kinetic fields.[3]
- Electrified air: the air above Chesed crackles with power, and entities that interact with it are damaged. Per the config comment, a player with HP lower than the instadeath value is killed immediately, and this pack sets that value to 4.[3][4]
Malkuth
The Fire and Ice skill description explains that while on the arena, combatants may be weak to Fire or Ice, and the damage type you are currently weak to is shown on the crosshair. Malkuth's abilities deal one of three damage types: Basic, Fire or Ice. Fire makes targets weaker to Fire and deals reduced damage to targets weak to Ice. Ice makes targets weaker to Ice and deals reduced damage to targets weak to Fire. So if you're weak to Fire and receive Ice damage, the amount is reduced and you become weaker to Fire. If you receive Fire damage instead, the amount isn't reduced, and you still become weaker to Fire.[3]
The Armor skill description says Malkuth wields impenetrable armor, capable of neglecting any damage.[3]
Knight's duty and the cannons
Per the Knight's Duty description, during the boss fight all combatants receive the Knight effect. If a combatant escapes the arena before the fight ends, Knight transforms into Coward, and when Coward expires it immediately kills its owner. Stepping back into the arena changes Coward back to Knight. The description also points out that the lava field is not part of the arena.[3]
Per the Fair Duel description, combatants can use two cannons on their side to fight on equal ground with Malkuth. Right-click a cannon to fire a shot. You can only use the cannon of the type you are currently weak to, and after a shot the cannon becomes unusable until the next use of Malkuth's Cannonade ability. When the second phase starts, Malkuth orders his cannons to break the cannons on the combatants' side. During the second phase, if there are broken cannons on your side, his Earthshatter attack spawns a special crystal at the attack location that is capable of repairing them.[3]
Malkuth's attacks
Again, the attack descriptions come from the mod and the numbers from the pack's config.[3][4]
- Slash: Fire or Ice, based on the sword that was charged. The slash is capable of slicing through crystals. Pack damage: 20.[3][4]
- Arc slashes: Fire or Ice aerial slashes in arcs, covering the whole arena. Pack damage: 20.[3][4]
- Cannonade: Fire or Ice shots from the cannons at the target. Pack damage: 20.[3][4]
- Earthshatter: Basic damage. Malkuth leaps to the target and crushes the earth, hurling everyone caught in the attack into the air. Pack damage: 30.[3][4]
- Impaling Doom: Fire or Ice spikes that travel in the slam direction and hurl combatants they hit up into the air. Pack damage: 30.[3][4]
- Side rocks: Fire or Ice boulders torn from the earth and hurled onto a player. Pack damage: 40.[3][4]
- Chainpunch: Basic damage. Malkuth pulls every combatant who was in the air and punches them. Pack damage: 20, and the pack's cooldown value is 150.[3][4]
- Hellshaper and Tsar's Wrath: Hellshaper summons floating islands, hurls everyone in the air, makes the floor impossible to walk on, and launches fireballs at the islands. Tsar's Wrath summons two giant swords that slam the ground, and in the second phase he also fires his cannons before the attack lands.[3]
Boss-drop cores
The Lightning Core is described as the core Chesed draws its power from, and it can be applied to any weapon in a crafting table. When attacking entities with a weapon enhanced with it, there is a chance to strike the target with Chesed lightning that does a percentage of the weapon's damage while inflicting Shocked. In this pack the chance is 33, the damage percent is 100, and the shock lasts 200 ticks.[3][4]
Shocked decreases outgoing damage by a set percentage, and this pack sets effectConfig.shockDamageReductionPercent to 25.[3][4]
Malkuth's core can be attached to any item that has damage to be able to summon Malkuth fireballs. Use the item to release a fireball that deals a percentage of the item's damage and ignites the targets. Crouch while using the item to release an iceball that slows the targets instead. This pack sets the fireball damage percent to 200 and the ability cooldown to 200, though the sources don't state the cooldown's unit.[3][4]
Arena and difficulty settings
In this pack, bossesDespawn is false, so bosses don't despawn when no target is found. Blocks matching the patterns in blocksAllowedToBreakInArena are allowed to be broken in the arena. The pack's patterns match anything containing grave or tomb, plus the tombstone mod's simple grave.[4]
Boss damage is scaled by difficulty multipliers. The pack sets peacefulDifficultyBossDamageMuliplier to 0.25, easyDifficultyBossDamageMultiplier to 0.5, normalDifficultyBossDamageMultiplier to 0.75 and hardDifficultyBossDamageMultiplier to 1.[4]
How do you progress through Qliphoth Awakening?
1 part
In this pack, the quest book places Qliphoth Awakening in the bounty_board chapter. The quests there are about the mod's trophies.[2]
Quests in this pack
- a quest in "?" has one task: hand in the Malkuth Trophy.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Chesed Trophy and also lists structure tasks, so you need to deal with structures as well as hand in the trophy.[2]
Both quests are untitled in the quest data, so the book gives no names or descriptions to guide you. The trophies are the only items these quests ask for.[2]
The quest data does not set an order between the Chesed and Malkuth quests, so treat them as separate bounty board goals and take them in whatever order suits your world.[2]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Qliphoth Awakening?
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
In this pack, Qliphoth Awakening shows up in the bounty_board quest chapter. Its quests there revolve around the boss trophies from the mod's fights.[5]
- a quest in "?" asks you to hand in the Malkuth Trophy. That is its only task.[5]
- a quest in "?" asks you to hand in the Chesed Trophy. It also has structure tasks alongside the trophy.[5]
In the chapter data, the Malkuth quest is listed first and the Chesed quest after it. Treat that as the order they are stored in, not as a required order.[5]
Which Qliphoth Awakening config options matter?
5 parts
Almost everything you will want to tweak for the Qliphoth Awakening bosses lives in one file, and this pack ships it with the values below. The file only shows what the pack sets, not the mod's defaults, so the sources here don't show which of these values the pack changed.[4]
Difficulty scaling
Boss damage is scaled by your world difficulty. The pack sets a multiplier for each level, so the bosses hit softer on lower difficulties and at full strength on hard.[4]
- peacefulDifficultyBossDamageMuliplier is 0.25 (the key name is spelled that way in the file).[4]
- easyDifficultyBossDamageMultiplier is 0.5.[4]
- normalDifficultyBossDamageMultiplier is 0.75.[4]
- hardDifficultyBossDamageMultiplier is 1.[4]
Arena behavior
- bossesDespawn is false. That option controls whether bosses despawn when no target is found, so in this pack they stay put.[4]
- blocksAllowedToBreakInArena is set to the regex (grave)|(tomb) plus the exact id ^tombstone:grave_simple$. The file describes this option as a block id regex, so those are the blocks allowed to be broken in the arena.[4]
Chesed
- chesedConfig.additionalSecondPhaseMonolithHP is 50. This is the monolith HP gained when the second phase starts.[4]
- chesedConfig.healthAfterSecondPhaseTransition is 10. If health is greater than this value after the transition, it is set equal to the value.[4]
- chesedConfig.electrifiedAirInstadeathHP is 4. The electrified air immediately kills you if your HP is lower than this value.[4]
- chesedConfig.electrifiedAirCurrentHealthDamagePercent is 33, and the file's comment on it reads "Defence from flight".[4]
- chesedConfig.finalAttackDamagePercentPerMonolith is 30.[4]
- Attack damages: chesedConfig.rayDamage, chesedConfig.blockAttackDamage and chesedConfig.electricSphereDamage are all 10, chesedConfig.rollAttackDamage is 8, and chesedConfig.fireTrailDamage is 2.[4]
Malkuth
- malkuthConfig.fireballsDamage is 50, and malkuthConfig.sideRocksDamage is 40.[4]
- malkuthConfig.earthshatterDamage, malkuthConfig.impalingDoomDamage and malkuthConfig.jumpBackOnSpawnCrushDamage are each 30.[4]
- malkuthConfig.arcSlashesDamage, malkuthConfig.cannonDamage, malkuthConfig.malkuthFloorDamage, malkuthConfig.pullAndPunchDamage and malkuthConfig.slashAttackDamage are each 20.[4]
- malkuthConfig.chainpunchCooldown is 150, and malkuthConfig.nonWeakToDamageReduction is 100.[4]
Weapon and effect settings
- itemConfig.chanceToSummonFlyingSword is 75 and itemConfig.chanceToSummonLightningStrike is 33.[4]
- itemConfig.flyingSwordDamagePercent is 50 and itemConfig.lightningStrikeDamagePercent is 100.[4]
- Both itemConfig.flyingSwordShockDuration and itemConfig.lightningStrikeShockDuration are 200, and the file says these are times in ticks.[4]
- itemConfig.playerMalkuthFireballAbilityCooldown is 200 and itemConfig.playerMalkuthFireballToolDamagePercent is 200.[4]
- effectConfig.shockDamageReductionPercent is 25.[4]
