What is Just Hammers?
2 parts
Just Hammers adds hammers that mine more than one block at a time. Instead of breaking a single block, you clear a whole area in one swing. The areas go from 3x3 up to a huge 5x5x5, so they suit anyone who is tired of clearing big stretches of stone one block at a time.[1]
The pack ships Just Hammers 21.1.4 for NeoForge.[2]
What you get
- Hammers come in iron, gold, diamond and netherite.[1]
- Each of those has tiers that grow the area of effect, starting at 3x3x1 and going all the way up to 5x5x5.[1]
- Durability scales with the tier, so the bigger hammers last longer.[1]
- Tooltips on the hammers tell you what each one does.[1]
Things to watch for
The mod's own known-issues list says vein miner style mods can be used together with the hammers. It also says the mined area can sometimes shift in a strange way, because of how block breaking and look direction are calculated.[1]
Unverified I could not confirm where the hammers fit in the pack's progression, which recipes the pack uses for them, or whether the pack changes any of the mod's values. No quests or ATM Star path involvement were found for this mod.
How do you get started with Just Hammers?
3 parts
Just Hammers adds hammers that mine a whole area in one swing instead of a single block. In this pack the area ranges from 3x3x1 up to 5x5x5, depending on the hammer, and durability scales up with the tier. Hover over any hammer to see its exact area in the tooltip.[1][3]
Start with the Stone Hammer
The Stone Hammer uses the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack. Make it first so you can try out area mining before you spend any good materials.[4]
Move up the material tiers
The mod's hammers come in iron, gold, diamond and netherite. Craft them as you get each material. The pack changed the recipes for all of these, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here is the Iron Hammer as the first step up.[1][4]

Upgrade through the cores
To get a bigger area, you move on to the upgraded hammers. These come in Impact, Reinforced, Reinforced Impact and Destructor versions for every material, and each one is built around a core item. The cores chain together: the Reinforced Core needs an Impact Core, the Reinforced Impact Core needs a Reinforced Core, and the Destruction Core needs a Reinforced Impact Core. The pack changed all of these core recipes.[1][4]

How does Just Hammers work?
4 parts
Just Hammers is a simple tool mod, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids to set up. The sources only describe hammers that break a bigger area of blocks in one swing, so everything here is about how those hammers behave.[1]
Area of effect
Hammers mine in 3x3, 3x3x3, 5x5x1, 5x5x3 and up to a full 5x5x5 area. The higher tiers increase the area, and durability scales with the tier too. Every hammer shows its size in its tooltip as "Mines a AxBxC area", so you can check what you're holding.[1][3]
The base materials are iron, gold, diamond and netherite. Above those there are Impact, Reinforced, Reinforced Impact and Destructor versions of each, such as the Iron Impact Hammer and the Netherite Destructor Hammer. This pack also has stone versions, like the Stone Hammer.[1][4]
Unverified The sources don't say which exact area size belongs to which hammer type (Impact, Reinforced, Reinforced Impact or Destructor). Check the in-game tooltip for the size.
Crafting and cores
The bigger hammers are built around core items: the Impact Core, Reinforced Core, Reinforced Impact Core and Destruction Core. The pack changed the recipes for the cores and for every hammer except the stone ones, which still use the mod's own recipes. Here are the plain iron hammer and the core chain as they work in this pack:[4]

Durability and repair
In this pack allowHammerBreaking.value is false, so hammers don't break when they run out of durability. This matches the mod's description: a hammer drops to 1 durability and can be repaired in an anvil. If you turn the option on, hammers can break.[1][5]
Each repair item restores 33.33 percent of a hammer's durability, set by durabilityRepairPercentage.value. Netherite hammers are better: durabilityRepairPercentageNetherite.value is 100, so one repair item restores them fully.[5]
Known quirks
How do you progress through Just Hammers?
3 parts
Just Hammers progression runs along the material of the hammer (stone, iron, gold, diamond and netherite) and the hammer type (the plain hammer, plus the reinforced, impact, reinforced impact and destructor variants). Every type has a recipe in every material.[4]
Unverified The sources here show no quest-book placement for Just Hammers, so the order below follows the crafting recipes only.
Material tiers
Plain hammers are the entry point and need no core. The Stone Hammer uses the mod's own recipe. The Iron Hammer, Gold Hammer, Diamond Hammer and Netherite Hammer were all changed by the pack, so don't rely on recipes you remember from other packs.[4]

Upgraded hammer types
The reinforced, impact, reinforced impact and destructor hammers each need their matching core. Above stone, they also use the storage block of the hammer's material. The stone versions of these hammers use the mod's own recipes, while every iron, gold, diamond and netherite version was changed by the pack.[4]
- Impact: Stone Impact Hammer, Iron Impact Hammer, Gold Impact Hammer, Diamond Impact Hammer and Netherite Impact Hammer use the Impact Core.[4]
- Reinforced: Stone Reinforced Hammer, Iron Reinforced Hammer, Gold Reinforced Hammer, Diamond Reinforced Hammer and Netherite Reinforced Hammer use the Reinforced Core.[4]
- Reinforced impact: Stone Reinforced Impact Hammer, Iron Reinforced Impact Hammer, Gold Reinforced Impact Hammer, Diamond Reinforced Impact Hammer and Netherite Reinforced Impact Hammer use the Reinforced Impact Core.[4]
- Destructor: Stone Destructor Hammer, Iron Destructor Hammer, Gold Destructor Hammer, Diamond Destructor Hammer and Netherite Destructor Hammer use the Destruction Core.[4]
The core chain
The cores are the real gate for the upgraded hammers. The pack changed the recipes for the Reinforced Core, the Reinforced Impact Core and the Destruction Core, and each one is built from the core before it in the chain. The recipes below show how they connect.[4]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Just Hammers?
2 parts
JustHammers shows up in one quest in this pack: "Hammer Time" quest. It sits in the "Getting Started" chapter, which is chapter 3 of 22 in the book, in the group "Echoes of History".[6]
What Hammer Time asks for
The quest tells you that digging with a pickaxe takes forever because it only mines one block at a time, and it points you to a Hammer from the JustHammers mod instead. It says the basic Stone Hammer digs a 3x3x1 area per swing, and that better Hammers dig out even bigger areas. The source doesn't say which exact item the quest's task checks for, so I won't guess at it here.[6]
Where it sits in the chapter
"Hammer Time" quest unlocks after "Digging In The Dirt" quest. That quest is itself unlocked by "A Fine-Tooth Pick" quest and "From Punching To Smashing" quest, which come after "Hard As A Rock" quest, the very first tool step of the chapter.[6]
- "Hard As A Rock" quest: break Stone with an empty hand to get Pebbles, and make a Crafting Table.[6]
- "From Punching To Smashing" quest and "A Fine-Tooth Pick" quest: smash Cobblestone down into Gravel and Dirt, and break Dirt with a Stone Crook.[6]
- "Digging In The Dirt" quest: collect any kind of sapling from the Dirt.[6]
- "Hammer Time" quest: upgrade to a JustHammers Hammer.[6]
"Hammer Time" quest is a side branch off "Digging In The Dirt" quest, next to "Leaf Nothing Behind" quest and "Charcoal and You" quest. The quest list doesn't show any quest that unlocks after it.[6]
Which Just Hammers config options matter?
3 parts
Just Hammers has a small config, and all of it lives in one file. There are four options, and they cover hammer breaking, the durability tooltip and how much repairing restores. Here is exactly how the pack sets each one.[5]
Hammer breaking
allowHammerBreaking.value is set to false in this pack. That option controls whether hammers break when they run out of durability, so here they don't. This matches the mod's description: a hammer drops to 1 durability and can then be repaired in an anvil.[1][5]
Durability tooltip
disabledDurabilityTooltip.value is false. The durability tooltip on hammers is therefore not disabled, and you still see it when you hover over one.[5]
Repair amounts
- durabilityRepairPercentage.value is 33.33. This is the percentage of durability restored per repair item.[5]
- durabilityRepairPercentageNetherite.value is 100. This is the percentage restored per repair item for netherite hammers.[5]
What changed in Just Hammers between versions?
1 part
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Just Hammers 21.1.4, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier. Everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs, and all of it is already in the version you're playing.[2]
Mod changelog highlights
- 21.1.4: Added a Brazilian Portuguese (PT_br) translation.[7]
- 21.1.3: The hammer now checks whether shift is held, instead of checking crouching, to turn off its area of effect. This means creative flight now works while you hold shift.[8]
- 21.1.2: The mod no longer needs architectury as a dependency.[9]
- 21.1.2: Block break events are now fired in the platform-specific way, so block protection mods can work correctly with the hammer.[9]
- 21.1.2: Fluid and waterlogged blocks are no longer broken when they are inside the hammer's area of effect.[9]
- 21.1.1: Added Simplified Chinese (zh-cn) and Japanese (ja_jp) translations.[10]
- 21.1.1: Blocks broken with the hammer now count towards the blocks mined statistic.[10]
- 21.1.1: Fixed a server issue with BreakBlockEvent.[10]
- 21.1.1: Fixed an animation reset on Fabric with mending that delayed the hammer in breaking blocks.[10]
