What is Emojiful?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Emojiful adds emojis to Minecraft chat so you can send a bit of emotion with ease. It also supports animated emojis, so your chat can get a lot more lively.[1]

This pack includes Emojiful 5.2.4, the NeoForge build for 1.21.[2]

What it does

  • Certain text triggers render as emojis instead of plain text. Simple ones include :) and >:(, and more advanced ones include :rage: and :ok_hand:.[1]
  • Emoji autocomplete and an emoji selection screen let you search all the available emojis instead of memorizing names.[1]
  • If you use a Discord server mod and someone types  in Discord, Emojiful renders the matching emoji in Minecraft too.[1]
  • If an emoji you want is missing, you can add custom emojis with datapacks. The project page points to EmojiBot in the mod's Discord as an easy way to turn Discord emojis into datapacks.[1]

Who it is for

It's for anyone who chats a lot, whether you play multiplayer with friends or bridge your game chat to a Discord server. It's a communication feature rather than a gameplay one, so you don't need it to progress.[1]

Unverified The sources show no quests in this pack that involve Emojiful, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. Its place in the pack's progression is therefore unconfirmed, and it doesn't appear to gate or unlock anything.

How do you get started with Emojiful?

2 parts

Emojiful adds emoji to Minecraft so you can send a bit of emotion with your messages. Animated emojis are supported too. The sources I have for this mod don't list any items or crafting steps to start with, so this section is about using the emoji features themselves.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Try the text triggers. Certain bits of text render as an emoji instead of the usual characters. Simple ones include :) and >:(, and the more advanced emoji use names like :rage: and :ok_hand:.[1]
  2. Use autocomplete and emoji selection. Emojiful has emoji autocomplete and an emoji selection feature, so you can search all the available emojis instead of remembering every name.[1]
  3. If you use a Discord server mod, type an emoji name such as  in Discord. Emojiful is set up so that it renders the correct emoji in Minecraft too.[1]

Adding your own emojis

If an emoji you want is missing, you can add custom emojis using datapacks. The mod author points to a Discord bot called EmojiBot that can turn Discord emojis into datapacks for you.[1]

How does Emojiful work?

4 parts

Emojiful doesn't have machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to set up. It's a chat mod, and everything it does is about turning emoji codes into pictures in your chat. The sources I have don't describe any blocks or items for it, so this section covers how the emoji systems work and the settings this pack uses.[1][3]

How emoji rendering works

When rendering is on, certain triggers in chat are drawn as emoji instead of plain text. Simple ones like :) and >:( work, and so do named codes like :rage: and :ok_hand:. The master switch is Emojiful.enabled, and this pack has it turned on.[1][3]

The option Emojiful.short_emoji_replacement is what makes the short triggers work. It replaces short versions like :) with the full name,, so they can be rendered as emoji. It's enabled in this pack.[3]

Emojiful can also work alongside a Discord server mod. If someone types  in Discord, Emojiful renders the matching emoji in Minecraft too.[1]

Finding emoji while you type

Where emoji come from

Emojiful loads emoji from several sources, and each one has its own switch. This pack sets them as follows.[3]

If an emoji you want is missing, you can add your own through datapacks. The mod's author points to a Discord bot called EmojiBot that converts Discord emoji into datapacks.[1]

Animated emoji and the profanity filter

Emojiful supports animated emoji. Emojiful.gifs controls this, and if it's disabled, animated emoji show as still images. It's enabled in this pack.[1][3]

There's also an optional profanity filter that replaces bad words with an emoji. ProfanityFilter.enabled is off in this pack. If you turn it on, the replacement word comes from ProfanityFilter.replacement, which is set to :swear: here.[3]

Tip: All of these options live in the client config file, so they affect your own game's chat display. Change them there if you want Twemoji, still images instead of animated ones, or the profanity filter.[3]

Unverified The sources don't say how the mod's emoji data is stored internally or how datapack emoji files are structured, so those details aren't covered here.

Which Emojiful config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Emojiful keeps all of its settings in one file, config/emojiful-client.toml. Here is exactly how this pack sets each option, so you know what you get the moment you join a world.[4]

Chat features

Emoji sources

Tip: If you want the Twemoji set, set Emojiful.EmojiTypes.twemoji to true in the client config. It is the only emoji source this pack leaves off.[4]

Profanity filter

ProfanityFilter.enabled is false, so the filter that replaces bad words with emoji is off. If you switch it on, ProfanityFilter.replacement is set to :swear: in this pack.[4]

Emojiful can also add emojis through datapacks, which is how a server can supply its own emoji set.[1]

Unverified The sources only show the values this pack uses, not the mod's own defaults, so I can't tell you which of these options the pack changed from the default.

What changed in Emojiful between versions?

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships with Emojiful 5.2.4, using the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21. That's the version you're running if you're on this pack release.[5]

Emojiful isn't a new arrival either. The pack's mod list shows it was first included in StoneBlock 4 1.18.0 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a good while.[5]

Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for Emojiful, and the sources don't spell out what changed in the mod between its releases, so there are no confirmed notable changes to list here.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as emojiful, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
