What is TelePastries?

1 part

This pack ships TelePastries 0.11.2, and it has been in the pack since version 1.0.3 or earlier. The pack's quest book never explains the mod on its own in the quests I can see. It mentions it as one of the kinds of portal a ship can fly through.[1][2]

Where the quest book places it

TelePastries turns up in the "Aeronautics" chapter, which is chapter 5 of 31 in the book and sits in the "Main Questline" group. The chapter has 58 quests. The mention is in the "Aero Portals" quest quest, which says a ship can sail through a Nether Portal, the End, Ars Nouveau portals, Draconic, the Ender Gateway, TelePastries and even the Pina Colada.[2]

  1. "Taking to the Skies" quest opens the chapter and introduces ships, weight, lift and thrust.[2]
  2. "Going Places" quest comes after it and covers docking, ropes, navigation, automated routes, claiming your ship and taking it into other dimensions.[2]
  3. "Aero Portals" quest comes after Going Places, and it is where TelePastries is named.[2]

Among the quests whose text I can see, none lists Aero Portals as its prerequisite. The other quests in the chapter are in the quest book itself, so check there to see what follows.[2]

Watch out: The quest says the destination has to have room. A ship that would arrive inside solid rock has its jump cancelled, so scout the far side first. A ship also can't jump again for ten seconds after arriving, and a hull with a bounding box over 200,000 blocks won't be noticed by the portal at all.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe TelePastries' own items, recipes or portal mechanics, so they aren't covered in this overview.

How do you get started with TelePastries?

4 parts

TelePastries adds cakes named after dimensions: an Overworld Cake, a Nether Cake, an End Cake, a Lost City Cake and a Twilight Forest Cake. There are also three Custom Cakes whose name and dimension can be configured. Here is what this pack sets up for them, so you know the rules before you go looking for one.[3]

Unverified How you obtain or craft the cakes in this pack is unverified. The sources here show no recipe that produces TelePastries items, so there is no recipe block in this section.

The rules this pack sets

Refill items

Each cake has a refill item setting, and the config warns you to only change it if you know what you are doing. In this pack the Nether Cake uses obsidian (Nether.netherCakeRefillItems), the End Cake uses an ender eye (End.endCakeRefillItems) and the Twilight Forest Cake uses a diamond (Compat.TwilightCakeRefillItems). The Overworld Cake accepts the vanilla saplings (Overworld.overworldCakeRefillItems).[3][4]

Custom Cakes

The first Custom Cake is named "Custom" (CustomCake.customCakeName) and is bound to minecraft:overworld (CustomCake.customCakeDimension). It can spawn you from Y 2 (CustomCake.customCakeMinY) up to Y 254 (CustomCake.customCakeMaxY), and both limits match the mod defaults, so the pack has not changed them. Its refill item is cobblestone (CustomCake.customCakeRefillItem).[3][4]

The second and third Custom Cakes have their own matching options and are named "Another Custom" (CustomCake2.customCake2Name) and "Yet Another Custom" (CustomCake3.customCake3Name) in this pack. Their dimension is also minecraft:overworld, and their Y range is 2 to 254, set by CustomCake2.customCake2MinY and CustomCake2.customCake2MaxY for the second cake, and by CustomCake3.customCake3MinY and CustomCake3.customCake3MaxY for the third.[3][4]

Where it meets the quest book

TelePastries shows up in the Aero Portals quest, which comes after Going Places in the Aeronautics chapter of the Main Questline. That quest says a ship can fly through a portal and arrive on the other side intact, and it lists TelePastries among the portals that work. See "Aero Portals" quest for the full text, including its warning that the destination needs room.[2]

How does TelePastries work?

3 parts

TelePastries has no machines, power or fluids to manage. Everything here is about its cakes: the Overworld Cake, Nether Cake, End Cake, Twilight Forest Cake, Lost City Cake and three configurable custom cakes. How they behave is controlled by the mod's common config, so that is what this section walks through.[3][4]

Eating and refilling cakes

Every cake has its own "consume" option that decides whether the cake is partly consumed when eaten. In this pack all of them are set to true, so eating a cake uses it up bit by bit. The Jade tooltip shows this as "Cake bites".[3][4]

Each cake also has a refill item list. The config warns to only change these if you know what you're doing. This is what the pack uses:[3][4]

General rules

General.ignoreHunger is false in this pack, so using a pastry requires hunger. Set it to true and hunger is ignored.[3][4]

General.disableHopping is true. That means non-overworld cakes can't be placed in dimensions that aren't the overworld, so you can't go from the Nether straight to the End.[3][4]

General.explosionImmune is false, so the pastries are not immune to explosions here.[3][4]

Each pastry has a teleportation point. General.resetPastry controls whether it can be reset with a milk bucket, and in this pack it is false. The item used for resetting is set by General.resetItems, which is a milk bucket.[3][4]

Custom cakes

There are three custom cake slots. Each one has its own name, bound dimension, and minimum and maximum Y level for where the cake can spawn you. In this pack they are named "Custom", "Another Custom" and "Yet Another Custom", and all three are bound to the overworld.[3][4]

The Y limits are the same for all three: a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 254, which are the mod defaults, within an allowed range of 1 to 256. You can change them with CustomCake.customCakeMinY and CustomCake.customCakeMaxY, and the matching CustomCake2 and CustomCake3 options. The name and dimension are set with CustomCake.customCakeName and CustomCake.customCakeDimension, and likewise for the other two slots.[3][4]

Tip: The dimension and refill item options expect the format modid:name, for example minecraft:overworld. Keep that format if you edit them.[3][4]

How do you progress through TelePastries?

1 part

TelePastries doesn't have a tier ladder in this pack that I can show you. The pack's quest book never gives its items a quest of their own, so there's no step-by-step path to follow for it.[2]

The one place the quest book names TelePastries is "Aero Portals" quest, in the Aeronautics chapter. That chapter is chapter 5 of 31 in the Main Questline group. The quest comes after "Going Places" quest, the quest path about docking, ropes, navigation, automated routes, claiming your ship and taking it into other dimensions.[2]

What the quest says about TelePastries

Aero Portals lets a whole ship fly through a portal, crew, cargo and balloon included, still moving at the speed it went in. The quest lists TelePastries among the portal types this works with, alongside the Nether, the End and a few others.[2]

  • Build the portal big enough for the ship to pass through.[2]
  • The destination needs room. A ship that would arrive inside solid rock has its jump cancelled, so scout the far side first.[2]
  • If no portal is waiting on the other side, a portal of matching size is built for you.[2]
  • A ship can't jump again for ten seconds after arriving.[2]
  • Keep the hull under 200,000 blocks of bounding box, or the portal won't notice it at all.[2]

Unverified The pack's sources give no recipes, item tiers or upgrade steps for TelePastries itself, so I can't lay out a tier breakdown for it.

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use TelePastries?

2 parts

TelePastries doesn't have a quest chapter of its own in this pack. It turns up in a single quest, in the Aeronautics chapter. That chapter is in the Main Questline group, chapter 5 of 31 in the book, and has 58 quests.[2]

Where it fits in the chapter

The chapter opens with "Taking to the Skies" quest, and the ship-building paths branch off it. One of them is "Going Places" quest, which covers docking, ropes, navigation, automated routes, claiming your ship and taking it into other dimensions. The TelePastries quest sits on that path.[2]

"Aero Portals" quest (subtitled "The whole ship goes") comes right after Going Places. It has a checkmark task, so there is nothing to craft or hand in. It sits beside these other quests that also follow Going Places:[2]

What the quest tells you

The quest is about a ship flying through a portal, not you. Sail the hull into a Nether Portal and the whole contraption arrives on the other side, crew, cargo and balloon included, still moving at the speed it went in. The quest says this works on far more than the Nether, and it lists TelePastries portals alongside the End, Ars Nouveau portals, Draconic and the Ender Gateway.[2]

Build the portal big enough for the ship to pass through it. A portal of matching size is built for you if none is waiting on the other side.[2]

Watch out: The destination has to have room. A ship that would arrive inside solid rock has its jump cancelled rather than the rock removed, so scout the far side first.[2]
Tip: A ship can't jump again for ten seconds after arriving. Keep the hull under 200,000 blocks of bounding box, or the portal won't notice it at all.[2]

Which TelePastries config options matter?

4 parts

Everything for TelePastries is set in config/telepastries-common.toml. Wherever the file shows a mod default, this pack matches it, and I can't see any value in this file that the pack changed from the default.[4]

General settings

Cake consumption

Every cake gets partly consumed when eaten. The Overworld, Nether, End, Twilight Forest and Lost Cities cakes, plus each of the custom cakes, have their consume option set to true, which is the default. For example, see Overworld.consumeOverworldCake and End.consumeEndCake.[4]

Refill items

Each cake has its own refill items. The file warns to only change these if you know what you're doing. The file doesn't list defaults for them, so I can't say whether the pack changed any. Here is what this pack uses:[4]

The custom cakes

The config has slots for custom cakes. They are named "Custom", "Another Custom" and "Yet Another Custom" (see CustomCake.customCakeName, CustomCake2.customCake2Name and CustomCake3.customCake3Name). Those names are the defaults.[4]

Each custom cake is bound to minecraft:overworld, uses Cobblestone as the refill item, and can spawn you between Y 2 and Y 254. The allowed range for both limits is 1 to 256, and the mod defaults are 2 for the minimum and 254 for the maximum. You can see this in CustomCake.customCakeMinY and CustomCake.customCakeMaxY, and the other custom cakes work the same way.[4]
