Gauges, Switches & Modules is a mod in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.13.0, where it is version 1.1.1. An unofficial NeoForge/Fabric port of the classic RsGauges mod. Adds stylish analog/digital gauges, switches, and sensors for redstone monitoring. And new Blocks/Items. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Gauges, Switches & Modules?

3 parts

Gauges, Switches & Modules is all about reading and controlling redstone in style. It adds devices that output or measure redstone power, from buttons and levers to analog and digital gauges. This pack includes version 1.1.1, which is an unofficial NeoForge port of the classic RsGauges mod.[1][2]

The port is based on a 1.20.1 version by Waffle, which in turn builds on the original mod by Wile. The 1.21.x NeoForge update comes from MCFabikDE.[1]

Switches

  • Buttons and levers in many designs, plus standard pressure plates and shock-sensitive ones that react to falls.[1]
  • Detectors for entities (players, animals, mobs) and for block categories such as ores, wood and liquids.[1]
  • Daily timers (from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM) and tick-based interval timers.[1]
  • Light, rain and lightning sensors.[1]
  • Switch-Link relays and receivers for wireless transmission, plus knock sensors and trapdoor switches.[1]

Gauges and indicators

  • Analog and digital gauges that display redstone strength from 0 to 15.[1]
  • LEDs, semaphores and alarm lights that show on or off.[1]
  • Alarm sirens and bells for sound.[1]
  • Sensitive glass that emits light or changes color.[1]

Handy tricks

  • Use a redstone torch on a switch to set it to low/high or inverted.[1]
  • Most switches can be linked wirelessly using Ender Pearls.[1]
  • Set how long a button pulses by using redstone stacks.[1]
  • Many switches and indicators can be colored with dyes.[1]

The devices come in several series, such as Industrial, Retro Industrial, Rustic, Old Fancy and Glass, so you can match them to the look of your base.[1]

How do you get started with Gauges, Switches & Modules?

5 parts

This mod adds devices that output or measure redstone power: buttons, switches, sensors, timers and gauges. They come in several visual series, and the recipes in this pack cover the Glass and Industrial ones. You can start with just a few crafts, in this order.[1][3]

Step one: a button to power things

Start with the Glass Button. It is a pulse button, and its in-game description lists output, pulse time and dye coloring options, so it is a good way to learn how this mod's configuration works.[1][4]

Next, make a Switch Link Pearl. Most switches can be connected wirelessly using Ender Pearls. The linking range is set by General.max_switch_linking_distance. The pack keeps the mod default of 48, and a value of 0 would mean infinite distance.[1][3][5]

Next, a gauge to read signals

Gauges display redstone strength from 0 to 15, which makes them handy for checking your builds. One to try is the Glass Bar Redstone Gauge. Gauges update every 4 ticks, set by General.gauge_update_interval, and the pack leaves that at the mod default.[1][3][5]

Step four: sensors that react to the world

The Glass Contact Plate is a glass floor plate. It changes color and emits a redstone signal while something presses on it, and for a short time after the pressure is gone.[4]

Swapping between variants

Many devices can be switched to a related variant by crafting the single item on its own. For example, a Glass Touch Button can be turned into a Glass Button.[3]

How does Gauges, Switches & Modules work?

9 parts

Heads up: this mod has no machines, multiblocks or fluid handling to speak of. It is a redstone toolkit. Its devices output or measure redstone power, and almost everything below is about how they read their surroundings and how you configure them.[1]

Sensors and what they read

The Glass Contact Plate emits a redstone signal while something presses on its top, and for a short time after the pressure is gone. Its outputs are to the front and the bottom. The Configurable Glass Contact Plate works the same way but adds a touch option you can configure.[4]

The Glass Infrared Entity Detector watches a volume of two blocks above and below, plus a configurable range in front, left and right, which covers 180 degrees. Small buttons on the front set the range, output strength, number of entities seen, and entity type (mobs, players, animals and so on). The output goes to the block it is placed on.[4]

The Glass Linear Laser Entity Detector looks in one direction only. It observes the set range in blocks in front of it and half a block to each side, and it has the same buttons for range, strength, entity count and entity type.[4]

The Door sensor is a player detector that mounts on walls above doors.[4]

The Industrial Block Category Detector emits a signal when blocks in front of it match a category. You configure it with buttons on the back: range, threshold (how many matches), debouncing (an anti-jitter delay), output power, and a filter for solid, fluid or wood log.[4]

The Industrial Comparator Switch reads the comparator output, inventory statistics or redstone signal of the block it is attached to. Front buttons set the output strength, the switch-on and switch-off comparator values, and the operating mode (comparator, free slots, used slots and more). In redstone-signal mode it does not output power itself, but it can still act as a switch link source.[4]

Timers

The Glass Day Timer Clock emits a signal from a start time to an end time. You set the span with buttons on the front, using a 24 hour format where 06:00 is sunrise. The same buttons set the output power and a randomizing value, which delays switching on or off by a random span (higher values mean longer delays).[4]

Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: rsgauges:glass_day_timer_recipe

The Glass Interval Signal Timer repeats a signal with a defined on-time and off-time. It starts in standby mode for setup, and you click the front face to put it into run mode. When it is used as a switch link target, each trigger toggles it between run and standby.[4]

  • Blue button: on-time.[4]
  • Yellow button: off-time.[4]
  • Green button: signal ramp up and down.[4]
  • Red button: output power.[4]

Gauges

The Analog Voltmeter Redstone Gauge attaches to a solid block and shows that block's redstone power. If the block can provide power itself, the gauge uses that output. Otherwise it measures indirectly the power the block receives from adjacent blocks. Strong and weak power are both supported, though indirect weak measurements may have a short latency.[4]

Buttons and targets

The Arrow Target sends a redstone pulse to the block it is attached to when an arrow hits it or when you activate it by hand. The Elevator Button points up, down, or both ways, depending on where you click the wall when placing it.[4]

Wireless switch linking

Most switches can be connected wirelessly using Ender Pearls. In this pack the linking item is the Switch Link Pearl. The maximum linking distance is set by General.max_switch_linking_distance at 48 blocks (a value of 0 means infinite), which is the mod default.[1][3][5]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: rsgauges:switchlink_pearl_recipe

Configuring devices

In general, switches can be set to low/high or inverted using a Redstone torch, and the duration of buttons can be configured using Redstone stacks. Many switches and indicators can also be tinted with dyes.[1]

Several of these configuration features can be switched off in General.without_pulsetime_config, General.without_rightclick_item_switchconfig, General.without_switch_linking, General.without_switch_nooutput and General.without_sculk_triggering. The pack sets each of these options to false, so the features stay enabled. General.optOuts is an empty list, so no blocks are disabled either.[5]

Double-left-click configuration has a timeout of 500 ms, set by General.config_left_click_timeout. That matches the mod default.[5]

Update intervals

Sensors and gauges poll on fixed intervals, and the pack leaves every one at the mod default. Each accepts a value from 1 to 100.[5]

Swapping between glass variants

Many glass devices have a shapeless recipe that turns a sibling device back into the base one. For example, the linear detector converts back into the infrared detector.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: rsgauges:glass_entity_detector_recipe_backcycle

Transport Terminal

The only energy-related settings in the pack's config are for the Transport Terminal. Its energy capacity ([[config:config/rsgauges-common.toml#Transport Terminal.transport_terminal_capacity]]) is 100,000 and a single teleport ([[config:config/rsgauges-common.toml#Transport Terminal.transport_terminal_teleport_cost]]) costs 1,000, both the same as the mod defaults.[5]

How do you progress through Gauges, Switches & Modules?

5 parts

Gauges, Switches & Modules is a set of redstone parts, not a tech ladder. In the recipe dump the items are grouped by style: glass, industrial, rustic and old fancy. Inside each style you start with simple parts and work up to more specialised ones. This section follows those recipes.[3]

The dump gives a good picture of how the recipes fit together. 65 shaped recipes take only vanilla ingredients. 33 more shaped recipes also use the mod's own button or pressure plate groups. 21 shapeless recipes turn one of the mod's items into a related one.[3]

Step 1: buttons and plates

Start with the basic input parts. The Glass Button and the Machine Button are good first crafts. Many recipes in the mod accept anything from its button group or its pressure plate group, so you will keep coming back to these parts.[3]

Pressure plates follow the same pattern. The Glass Contact Plate and the Industrial Contact Mat each have their own shaped recipe that uses the mod's pressure plate group.[3]

Step 2: gauges, timers and logic

Next come the parts that read or process a redstone signal. The Glass Bar Redstone Gauge and the Analog Voltmeter Redstone Gauge are display gauges. For timing you have the Glass Day Timer Clock and the Glass Interval Signal Timer. The Industrial Day Timer Clock is the industrial day timer.[3]

Swapping between variants

Many parts come in pairs, and the mod gives you a shapeless swap recipe between them. Two examples are the Glass Touch Button to Glass Button swap and the Rustic Nail Button to Rustic Button swap.[3]

Tip: The swap recipes in the dump only go one way. The glass linear laser detector can be turned into the glass infrared detector with a shapeless recipe. To get the linear laser detector itself, you use its own shaped recipe, so check which direction you need before you craft.[3]

Which Gauges, Switches & Modules config options matter?

4 parts

Good news: everything in the config file General.optOuts lives in, rsgauges-common.toml, is set to the mod default in this pack. The pack hasn't changed any of the values below, so what you read here is also what you'd get from the mod on its own.[5]

Update intervals

These control how often devices check what's going on. Lower numbers react faster, higher numbers are gentler on the game. Each one accepts values from 1 to 100.[5]

Switch linking and configuring

Feature switches

These are all off in this pack (false), so every feature is enabled. Turning one on disables the feature it names.[5]

There is also General.optOuts, a list of block registry names to disable. It's empty here, so no blocks are removed.[5]

Transport Terminal

  • [[config:config/rsgauges-common.toml#Transport Terminal.transport_terminal_capacity]] is the energy capacity of the Transport Terminal: 100,000.[5]
  • [[config:config/rsgauges-common.toml#Transport Terminal.transport_terminal_teleport_cost]] is the energy cost of a single teleport: 1,000.[5]

What changed in Gauges, Switches & Modules between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Gauges, Switches & Modules 1.1.1, using the file named "rsgauges ported v1.2.3". The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier. The mod's changelog entries are labelled 1.1.1, but the two below are listed under v1.2.2 and v1.2.3, which matches the jar name.[2]

Notable mod changes

  • v1.2.2: Fixed all missing recipes, so every item can now be crafted standalone with vanilla materials.[6]
  • v1.2.3: Fixed all recipe conflicts, so every item has its own unique recipe.[7]
  • v1.2.3: Fixed the redstone "Power" parameter not controlling pulse duration and shutoff delay on sensors like the Infrared Entity Detector.[7]

Since 1.10.0 includes v1.2.3, both recipe fixes and the sensor fix should apply to the version you are playing.[2][6][7]
