What is Pop?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Pop is a small helper mod for modpack developers. It gives pack makers more places on the screen to show information, driven either by a command or by KubeJS scripts.[1]

This pack includes Pop 21.1.3.[2]

What it does

  • Shows custom text on screen at a chosen location, using the /pop command. For example, /pop create @s MIDDLE_LEFT "Hello World!" puts a message in the middle left of the screen.[1]
  • Supports translations out of the box.[1]
  • Can also be used from KubeJS through the Pop Manager and the Pop Builder. A script can set how long a pop-up lasts and where it appears, then send it to a player from the server or display it on the client.[1]

What is still to come

The project page lists progress bars, headings and subheadings, customisation via commands as well as code, and more text animations as coming soon. Those are plans, not features of the mod as described on its page.[1]

How do you get started with Pop?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Pop is a small helper mod for modpack developers. It adds more places on the screen where information can be shown, and you control it with a command or with KubeJS. So there's no gear to craft first. Getting started just means learning how to trigger a pop-up.[1]

Your first pop-up

  1. Run the game and load into a world.[1]
  2. Use the /pop command to create a new pop-up.[1]
  3. Try the example from the project page: /pop create @s MIDDLE_LEFT "Hello World!". It shows the text "Hello World!" at the middle-left of your screen.[1]

The mod also supports translations out of the box, so pop-up text can be translated.[1]

Using KubeJS instead

If you'd rather script it, KubeJS can access the Pop Manager and the Pop Builder. In the project's example you create a PopBuilder, set a duration of 5, give it some text content and choose a placement such as middle_left.[1]

Once it's built, you can either get a PopData object back or send it straight away. On the server you call sendToPlayer with the player. On the client you call display().[1]

Tip: The Placement class is optional in the KubeJS example. You can pass the placement as a plain string like middle_left, or use Placement.MIDDLE_LEFT.[1]

What's not here yet

The project page lists progress bars, headings and subheadings, customisation via commands as well as code, and more text animations as coming soon. Don't count on them in your version.[1]

Unverified No items, crafting recipes or quests for Pop could be confirmed in this pack, so there is no recipe to craft and no quest to follow. Anything beyond the /pop command and the KubeJS builder is unverified.

How does Pop work?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Pop doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item handling. It's a small helper mod for modpack developers that puts text on your screen in more locations than vanilla offers. It can be driven by a command or by KubeJS.[1]

Creating a pop-up with a command

The simplest way to use Pop is the /pop command. The mod's own example is /pop create @s MIDDLE_LEFT "Hello World!". That takes a target (@s, which is yourself), a screen location (MIDDLE_LEFT) and the text to show.[1]

Pop supports translations out of the box, so pop-up text can be translatable.[1]

Creating a pop-up with KubeJS

Pop also exposes a Pop Manager and a Pop Builder to KubeJS. In the mod's example you load the builder class, then chain a duration, the content (a text value) and a placement. The placement can be given as the string "middle_left" or as the Placement enum value MIDDLE_LEFT.[1]

Once the pop-up is built, you can either build it into a PopData object or send it straight away. On the server, you call sendToPlayer with the player. On the client, you call display.[1]

  1. Load the PopBuilder class, and optionally the Placement class, with java.load.[1]
  2. Call PopBuilder.create(), then set .duration(5), .content({ text: "Hello World!" }) and .placement("middle_left").[1]
  3. On the server, call pop.sendToPlayer(player). On the client, call pop.display().[1]

What's not here yet

The mod's page lists progress bars, headings and subheadings, customisation via commands as well as code, and more text animations as coming soon. Don't rely on them being available.[1]

Unverified The unit for the duration value, the full list of available screen locations, and whether this pack's quests or scripts actually use Pop pop-ups are not confirmed by the available sources. The pack also has no Pop config files or recipes that I could check.

What changed in Pop between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships with Pop 21.1.3. The mod has been in the pack since Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so you've had it for essentially the pack's whole life.[3]

Pop 21.1.3

This is the version in your pack, and its changelog is a bug-fix release aimed at pack makers and scripters. It fixes various issues with using the pop builder from KubeJS.[4]

The fix also makes the placement enum simpler to write when you pass it as a string. Every variant, such as TOP_LEFT, can now be written as "top left", "top.left" or "top-left", and this applies to all of the placement enum values.[4]

I don't have any pack changelog entries that mention Pop, so this is the only change I can confirm for this mod.[3]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as pop, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
