What is Hooked?
2 parts
Hooked is a grappling hook mod built to be an effective replacement for creative flight. The idea is that its hooks are faster, easier to use and more fun than jetpacks or creative flight.[1]
This pack ships Hooked 2.0.3, the NeoForge build.[2]
How the hooks work
- Hooks have no firing arc, so you don't have to line up every shot.[1]
- A hook pulls you toward it with a constant force, so there is no swinging to deal with.[1]
- You don't hold anything. Hooked is a trinket/curio bound to a key, so it's ready the moment you press it.[1]
- Hooks have no durability, and your mining speed is unimpaired while you use one, in the air or underwater.[1]
- Hooks are simulated almost entirely client-side, much like normal movement, so a laggy connection shouldn't cause too much trouble.[1]
Hook variants
- Wood hook: not great, but better than nothing in the super early game.[1]
- Iron hook: pretty good and not too expensive.[1]
- Diamond hook: the best general-purpose hook in the mod, offering multiple hooks at a good middle-of-the-road speed.[1]
- Ender hook: a diamond hook sidegrade that is very, very fast. It's perfect for clutches in the Nether or with an Elytra.[1]
- Redstone hook: the other diamond hook sidegrade. It gives you full creative flight inside the region bounded by the hooks.[1]
The mod also supports datapacks for custom hook types, including their attributes, textures and models.[1]
How do you get started with Hooked?
4 parts
Hooked adds grappling hooks that are meant to replace creative flight. Hooks pull you toward them with a constant force, so there is no swinging to deal with and no firing arc to line up. You can start using them on your very first night.[1]
A hook is not something you hold. It is a trinket/curio bound to a key, so you keep your hands free for tools. Look for the Hooked category in your controls and the Fire Hook binding.[1][3]
Step 1: Wooden Hook
Start with the Wooden Hook. It is not great, but it is better than nothing in the super early game, and it beats getting stuck somewhere with no way out.[1][3]

Step 2: Iron Hook
Once you have some iron, make the Iron Hook. It is a big step up and gives you versatile, flexible movement.[1][3]

Step 3: Diamond Hook
The Diamond Hook is the best general-purpose hook in the mod. It gives you several hooks at once at a good middle-of-the-road speed. The later hooks are crafted from the earlier ones, so work through them in this order.[1][3][4]
Step 4: Pick a specialty
The Ender Hook and the Redstone Hook are the two sidegrades of the Diamond Hook. Pick the one that fits what you are doing, or make both.[1][4]
- Ender Hook: very, very fast. It is great for clutches in the Nether or when you are using an Elytra.[1][3]
- Redstone Hook: full creative flight inside the region bounded by the hooks. This one is made for builders.[1][3]

How does Hooked work?
4 parts
Hooked is a grappling hook mod built to replace creative flight, so its mechanics are all about how the hooks move you around.[1]
How hooks behave
- Hooks have no firing arc, so you don't have to line up every shot.[1]
- A hook pulls you toward it with a constant force, so there's no swinging to deal with.[1]
- You don't hold an item. A hook is a trinket/curio, and you fire it with a key (listed as Fire Hook in the Hooked controls category).[1][3]
- Hooks have no durability, so you can use them freely.[1]
- Your mining speed is unimpaired while you use a hook, in the air or underwater.[1]
- Hooks are simulated almost entirely client-side, like normal movement, so a laggy connection shouldn't cause much trouble.[1]
The hook variants
The Wooden Hook is not great, but it's better than nothing in the very early game. The Iron Hook is a pretty good step up.[1][3]
The Diamond Hook is the best general-purpose hook in the mod. It gives you multiple hooks at a middle-of-the-road speed.[1][3]
The Ender Hook and Redstone Hook are the two sidegrades of the Diamond Hook. The Ender Hook is very, very fast, which suits clutches in the Nether or with an Elytra. The Redstone Hook gives you bounded creative flight: full creative flight within the region bounded by the hooks, which makes it a good fit for building.[1][3]
Crafting the hooks
In this pack the hooks use their mod recipes. The Diamond Hook is built from an Iron Hook, and both the Ender Hook and the Redstone Hook are built from a Diamond Hook. So the upgrade path runs from the Iron Hook to the Diamond Hook and then to whichever sidegrade you want.[4]

Data pack hooks
The mod supports data packs for custom hook types, including all attributes, custom textures and custom hook models. It also includes a Custom Hook item, which is described as a blank template for data packs.[1][3]
How do you progress through Hooked?
4 parts
Every hook in this pack is crafted at a normal crafting table. The recipe dump shows no special machines and no other crafting types, so your progression is a chain of crafting table upgrades.[4]
Tier 1: Wooden Hook
The Wooden Hook is where everything starts. It is a shaped crafting recipe, so you can make it as soon as you have the basic early-game materials.[4]

Tier 2: Iron Hook
Next up is the Iron Hook. It is crafted from scratch, so you do not need the Wooden Hook to make it.[4]

Tier 3: Diamond Hook
The Diamond Hook is the upgrade step after the Iron Hook, so you need to have made that one first.[4]
Final tier: Ender Hook and Redstone Hook
The path splits at the top. Both the Ender Hook and the Redstone Hook are crafted from a Diamond Hook, so you pick one (or make both) once you have a Diamond Hook. The Ender Hook leans on ender and blaze materials, while the Redstone Hook leans on redstone components.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Hooked?
I checked the quest book data for this pack, and none of the quests in it ask for an item from this mod. The Ars Nouveau chapter (Magic Mods group, chapter 16 of 31, 63 quests) only asks for items from Ars Nouveau and a few of its addons, so you won't find a Hooked task there.[5]
Unverified No quest chapter that asks for a Hooked item was found in the quest data available for this guide, so this section can't say which chapters involve the mod or in what order.
What changed in Hooked between versions?
2 parts
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships with Hooked 2.0.3. The mod has been in the pack since Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so you've had it from the early releases.[2]
Hooked 2.0.2
- Fixed an exploit that allowed unlimited creative flight by corrupting the red hook's bounding region.[6]
- Made the red hook's bounding box harder to corrupt.[6]
Hooked 2.0.3
- The Redstone Hook item tooltip now explains its controls more clearly.[7]
- Added error handling so that exceptions while ticking hooks can no longer effectively brick a save.[7]
If you want to know how the Redstone Hook is controlled, the tooltip in 2.0.3 is the place to look.[7]
