What is dragonfight mod?

This pack ships the dragonfight mod at version 4.7, using the file dragonfight-1.21-4.7.jar. It has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources for this guide include no platform description and no in-jar guidebook for dragonfight, so this page does not describe what the mod adds or changes. The sources also do not show where the pack's quest book places the mod.

How do you get started with dragonfight mod?

1 part

This mod works differently from most in the pack. It changes the Ender Dragon fight itself, so there is nothing to craft first. What you need to know before heading to the End is how the pack has set the fight up.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no items, recipes or quests for this mod, so there is no crafting order to give you. The fight's settings live in config/dragonfight.json, and the values below are the ones the sources here show.

What to know before the fight

Tip: The health, damage, XP, mob amount, crystal respawn time and lightning density modifiers are all left at 1 in the pack. The extra challenge comes from the difficulty value of 2 and the mob lists above.[2]

How does dragonfight mod work?

4 parts

The dragonfight mod changes how the Ender Dragon fight plays out, and everything is driven by one config file. Below is what each setting does and what this pack sets it to.[2]

Difficulty scaling

The big knob is dragonDifficulty.dragonDifficulty. The higher it is, the harder the dragon gets: it scales up mob spawn amount, dragon damage, dragon health and the crystal respawn intervals. The fight already scales with the number of players involved, and this value is a static bonus on top of that.[2]

This pack sets it to 2, which is the mod's stated default. The description also says vanilla is 0, so the fight here is tougher than vanilla from the start.[2]

Fine-tuning modifiers

On top of difficulty there are separate multipliers. The pack leaves all of them at 1, which is the default for each.[2]

Mobs that join the fight

The mod adds extra mobs at different moments of the fight, each with its own list. The pack uses one mob for each list.[2]

If you want to edit these lists, entity NBT goes right after the entity type, like minecraft:zombie{}, and every quotation mark inside it needs a backslash in front.[2]

disableDragonAreaSpawns.disableDragonAreaSpawns is true in this pack, which disables mob spawning on the Dragon island during the fight. That is the mod's default as well.[2]

Dragon abilities and protections

Tip: Because the dragon is immune to explosion damage here, don't plan on blasting it down with explosives. Bring other damage sources.[2]

The mod also has its own death message for weak explosion damage: "Enderdragon blew <player> to smithereens".[3]

Which dragonfight mod config options matter?

3 parts

Everything about how the dragon fight behaves is set in one file, config/dragonfight.json. Every option whose description names a default is set to that default in this pack, so the pack doesn't change any of those values. Here's what each option does and how the pack has it set.[2]

Difficulty and scaling

The big one is dragonDifficulty.dragonDifficulty. The pack sets it to 2, which is the mod default. It scales up mob spawn amount, dragon damage and health, and crystal respawn intervals. The difficulty already scales with the number of players in the fight, and this value is a static bonus on top of that.[2]

The individual multipliers are all left at 1 in this pack, matching their defaults:[2]

Fight mechanics

Tip: If you want to learn how the dragon behaves, switch printDragonPhases.printDragonPhases to true and watch the chat during the fight.[2]

Extra mob spawns

The fight can spawn extra mobs at different moments, and the pack fills each list with a single mob:[2]

If you edit these lists, the file's notes (descSpawnEntries) say that NBT goes right after the entity type, like minecraft:zombie{}, and every quotation mark needs a backslash in front of it.[2]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as dragonfight, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
