What is Chance Cubes?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Chance Cubes adds mystical blocks that give you a random reward when you open them. It's a Lucky Block alternative, so you never know what you'll get.[1]
Some rewards are helpful and others can be devastating. They range from hordes of zombies and death traps to rewards that build full houses and hand out next-level items. Each reward has its own twist to keep it interesting.[1]
Who it's for
This mod is for you if you like a bit of risk and surprise in your run. You can find the blocks while exploring, or craft them yourself if you'd rather not go looking. Just be ready for the bad outcomes as well as the good ones.[1]
In this pack
The pack includes Chance Cubes version 1.21.1-5.0.2.517, and it was already present in this pack version or an earlier one.[2]
The mod can load custom rewards from an easy-to-read JSON file format, which is why modpack makers can add their own. Whether this pack adds any custom rewards isn't confirmed by the sources.[1]
Unverified The sources don't say where Chance Cubes fits in the pack's progression, and the mod isn't on the ATM Star path. No pack quests are known to involve it, and the in-pack crafting recipe hasn't been confirmed.
How do you get started with Chance Cubes?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 guide
Chance Cubes are blocks you open for a random reward. Some rewards are helpful and others can be devastating, so every cube is a gamble. Here is the order I'd make things in this pack.[1]
In this pack the config turns off cube generation in the world: [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.GenerateOnSurface]], [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.GenerateAsOre]] and [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.ChestLoot]] are all false. [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.SurfaceGenerationAmount]] is set to 0 (the mod default is 100). So plan on crafting your cubes.[3]
Step 1: the Chance Cube
Start with the Chance Cube itself. The pack changes this recipe, so go by the one below and not by what you remember from other packs.[4]

Step 2: the Tier 1 Chance Pendant
Next comes the Tier 1 Chance Pendant. It is the base of the pendant line, and the scanner, the Tier 2 pendant and the Silk Touch pendant all build on it. A pendant has a limited number of uses, set by [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.PendantUses]], which is 32 here (the same as the mod default).[3][4]

This recipe is changed by the pack.
Step 3: the scanner
The Chance Cube Scanner is the next thing to craft, and it uses the Tier 1 pendant you just made.[4]

Step 4: upgrades
Once you have a Tier 1 pendant, you can upgrade it to the Tier 2 Chance Pendant, and then to the Tier 3 Chance Pendant. There is also a side branch, the Silk Touch Chance Pendant. All of these recipes are changed by the pack.[4]

The pack also switches off some rewards in its reward file. These are all set to false:[5]
Which Chance Cubes config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Chance Cubes keeps most of its settings in one server config file, plus a second file that switches individual rewards on and off. Here are the ones you're most likely to care about, and exactly how this pack sets them.[6][7]
World generation
The only value in the main config that the pack flags as changed from the mod default is [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.SurfaceGenerationAmount]]. The pack sets it to 0, and the mod default is 100. The option's description says the chance of a chunk getting a surface cube is 1 divided by this number, and the listed valid range is above 0, so 0 is outside that range. What the game actually does with 0 is unverified.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.GenerateOnSurface]] is false, so cubes don't generate on the surface of the world.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.GenerateAsOre]] is false, so cubes don't generate like ores.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.ChestLoot]] is false, so cubes don't show up as chest loot.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.BlockedWorlds]] is an empty list, so no worlds are blocked.[6]
Chance values and rewards
[[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.ChanceRangeMin]] and [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.ChanceRangeMax]] are both 10, which matches the mod default. Per the option's description, these set how far a cube's chance value can swing when it picks a reward.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.D20UseNormalChanceValues]] is false, so D20s only have a chance value of either -100 or 100.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.RewardsEqualChance]] is false, so chance values still matter when a reward is picked.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.EnableDefaultRewards]] is true, so the default rewards are loaded.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.PendantUses]] is 32, the mod default.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.FallingBlockDropHeight]] is 20, the mod default.[6]
- [[config:config/chancecubes/chancecubes-server.toml#General Settings.DisableGiantCC]] is false, but the giant chance cube reward is switched off separately (see below).[6][7]
Rewards the pack turns off
The reward switches live in a separate file. In this pack these rewards are set to false: rewards.chancecubes:boss_demonic_blaze, rewards.chancecubes:boss_evil_witch, rewards.chancecubes:boss_mimic, rewards.chancecubes:boss_ravager, rewards.chancecubes:clear_inventory, rewards.chancecubes:inventory_bomb and rewards.chancecubes:giant_chance_cube. The ore and diamond rewards rewards.chancecubes:coal_to_diamonds, rewards.chancecubes:diamond_block, rewards.chancecubes:ores_galore and rewards.chancecubes:redstone_diamond are off too. Every other reward listed in that file is true.[7]
