What is Ceramic Shears?

This pack includes Ceramic Shears at version 1.21-3.2.1.1, shipped as the NeoForge file ceramicshears-neoforge-1.21-3.2.1.1.jar. It has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]

The sources I have for this pack only confirm which version is installed. They do not describe what the mod does, so I am not going to guess at its features, recipes or settings here. Check the Recipes and Config sections of this guide if they are present for anything more specific.[1]

How do you get started with Ceramic Shears?

4 parts

Ceramic Shears come from a short chain of three crafts. Each step feeds the next, so you make them in this order. Every recipe below is the exact one used in this pack.[2]

Step 1: Make the Clay Shears Part

Start with Clay Shears Part. It is the first item in the chain and the only one made by plain crafting.[2][3]

A mod recipe, crafted in a shaped pattern.

Step 2: Turn it into a Ceramic Shears Part

Next you convert the clay part into Ceramic Shears Part. The mod does this with a smelting recipe.[2][3]

Smelting

The mod's own smelting recipe.

This pack also adds a campfire cooking recipe that gives the same result, so you have a second way to do this step.[2]

Added by the pack, not part of the mod itself.

Step 3: Assemble the Ceramic Shears

Finally, a shapeless crafting recipe combines two Ceramic Shears Part into the finished Ceramic Shears. So make your parts in pairs.[2][3]

Durability in this pack

The pack sets [[config:config/ceramicshears-server.toml#Balance Options.durability]] to 179, which is the same as the mod default, so the pack has not changed it. The option accepts values from 0 to 10,000, and 0 deactivates durability.[3][4]

How does Ceramic Shears work?

2 parts

Ceramic Shears is a small mod, and its mechanics in this pack come down to one crafting chain and one durability setting. The sources show no machines, power or fluids for it, so there is nothing to automate.[2][3][4]

The crafting chain

Each stage of making Ceramic Shears is shown below, from the Clay Shears Part to the Ceramic Shears Part to the finished shears.[2]

The mod's own firing step is a normal smelting recipe.[2]

Smelting

Recipe id: ceramicshears:ceramic_shears_part

The mod's smelting recipe turns the clay part into the fired part.

The pack adds a second way to do this step: you can cook the clay part on a campfire instead of using a furnace.[2]

Durability

The shears' maximum durability is set in [[config:config/ceramicshears-server.toml#Balance Options.durability]]. In this pack it is 179, the same as the mod default, so the pack has not changed it. The allowed range is 0 to 10,000, and setting it to 0 turns durability off completely.[3][4]

Tip: If you run your own server or tweak the pack, that durability value is the only setting the sources show for this mod.[4]

How do you progress through Ceramic Shears?

3 parts

Ceramic Shears are a short crafting chain in this pack, not a tiered progression. It ends in Ceramic Shears, and along the way you make Clay Shears Part and then Ceramic Shears Part. Each stage below shows its recipe.[2]

The raw part

You start by crafting the unfired part in a crafting grid. It's a single shaped recipe from the mod itself.[2]

Firing the part

The raw part has to be fired to become a finished part. The mod gives you a smelting recipe for this.[2]

The pack also adds a second route that uses a campfire instead. If you don't want to set up a furnace, this one is handy.[2]

Assembling the shears

The last step is a shapeless craft. You combine finished parts and get the shears, so there's no fixed pattern to remember.[2]

Tip: Both firing routes give the same finished part, so use whichever is closer to your base. The recipe above shows exactly how many finished parts one pair of shears needs.[2]

Which Ceramic Shears config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Ceramic Shears only has one config option that the sources cover, and it's the one most players will care about: how long the shears last. It lives in the server config file, under the Balance Options section.[5]

Durability

The [[config:config/ceramicshears-server.toml#Balance Options.durability]] option sets the maximum durability of your Ceramic Shears. This pack sets it to 179, which is exactly the mod default, so the pack did not change this value. The allowed range is 0 to 10,000.[5]

Tip: Setting durability to 0 deactivates durability entirely, according to the option's description. If you run your own server or tweak the config and want shears that never wear out, that's the value to use. Keep in mind that doing so goes beyond what the pack ships with.[5]

Unverified No other Ceramic Shears config options are listed in the sources for this pack, so we can't confirm whether any other values were changed from the mod defaults.
