What is Ceramic Shears?

Ceramic Shears is part of this pack's mod list. The pack ships version 1.21-3.2.1.1, built for NeoForge, and it was already included by FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 at the latest.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Ceramic Shears does, what its items do, or how it is crafted, so I can't tell you its mechanics or whether the pack changes any recipes or configs for it. There is also no confirmed information on where it fits in the pack's progression, and no confirmed quest or ATM Star path involvement.

How do you get started with Ceramic Shears?

4 parts

Getting your first Ceramic Shears is a short chain of three crafts. Here's the order to follow, and why each step comes where it does.[2]

  1. Make a Clay Shears Part. This is the raw, unfired piece, so it has to come first.[2]
  2. Fire that piece to get a Ceramic Shears Part. The mod's recipe uses smelting, and this pack adds a campfire cooking recipe that gives the same result.[2]
  3. Craft the fired part into the finished Ceramic Shears.[2]

Step 1: the clay part

The mod's own shaped recipe produces the unfired part. Open the recipe below to see exactly what the pack uses.[2]

Step 2: fire it

There are two ways to fire the part. The mod's recipe is smelting, and the pack adds a second recipe that uses campfire cooking.[2]

Step 3: finish the shears

Once the part is fired, a shapeless crafting recipe turns it into the finished shears.[2]

About durability

The mod has a durability option that sets the maximum durability of the shears. It accepts values from 0 to 10,000, and 0 deactivates durability.[3]

How does Ceramic Shears work?

3 parts

Ceramic Shears is a very small mod, and the sources don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation for it. What they do cover is how you make the shears and how durable they are, so that's what this section explains.[2][3][4]

The crafting chain

You make the Ceramic Shears through a short chain of recipes. It starts with a Clay Shears Part, which is fired into a Ceramic Shears Part, and that part becomes the finished shears. The recipes below follow that order.[2]

Next, the mod's own smelting recipe fires the clay part.

A campfire shortcut added by the pack

This pack adds another way to do the firing step. Besides smelting, you can cook the Clay Shears Part on a campfire to get the same Ceramic Shears Part. The mod doesn't include this recipe, so it only works because the pack adds it.[2]

Durability

The shears' maximum durability is set by [[config:config/ceramicshears-server.toml#Balance Options.durability]]. The option accepts values from 0 to 10,000, and setting it to 0 turns durability off entirely.[3][4]

In this pack the value is 179, which is the same as the mod's default. The pack hasn't changed it, so your shears have 179 durability here.[4]

Tip: If you want to turn durability off, set the durability option to 0, which deactivates it. The pack ships it at 179.[3][4]

How do you progress through Ceramic Shears?

4 parts

Ceramic Shears come from a short crafting chain that starts with clay and ends with Ceramic Shears. The recipes below are the whole path, so you can work through them in order.[2]

The crafting chain

Each step makes the item the next step needs.[2]

  1. Craft a Clay Shears Part from clay.[2]
  2. Cook the Clay Shears Part to turn it into a Ceramic Shears Part.[2]
  3. Craft the Ceramic Shears Part into the finished Ceramic Shears.[2]

Firing the part

The mod's own recipe fires the Clay Shears Part by smelting it into a Ceramic Shears Part.[2]

The pack also lets you cook the Clay Shears Part on a campfire. That is a pack addition, not something the mod does on its own, so you can skip the furnace if you like.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest in the pack's quest book that involves Ceramic Shears, so there is no quest chapter to follow for this mod.

Which Ceramic Shears config options matter?

1 part

Ceramic Shears only has one config option that the sources cover, and it's the one most players will care about: how long the shears last. It lives in the server config file, under the Balance Options section.[4]

Durability

The [[config:config/ceramicshears-server.toml#Balance Options.durability]] option sets the maximum durability of your Ceramic Shears. This pack sets it to 179, which is exactly the mod default, so the pack did not change this value. The allowed range is 0 to 10,000.[4]

Tip: Setting durability to 0 deactivates durability entirely, according to the option's description. If you run your own server or tweak the config and want shears that never wear out, that's the value to use. Keep in mind that doing so goes beyond what the pack ships with.[4]

Unverified No other Ceramic Shears config options are listed in the sources for this pack, so we can't confirm whether any other values were changed from the mod defaults.
