What is NaNny?

2 parts

NaNny is a small safety mod that cleans up after other mods that set an entity's health or absorption to NaN ("not a number"). Its tagline says it best: some mods can't keep their floats in control.[1]

The pack includes NaNny 1.0.1. It works in the background and doesn't ask anything of you while you play.[2]

What it does

NaNny hooks into these events: LivingAttackEvent, LivingDamageEvent, LivingHealEvent and LivingHurtEvent. When one of them involves a NaN value, NaNny cancels it and can optionally heal the affected entity.[1]

Configuration

NaNny creates a TOML file at world/serverconfig/nanny-server.toml. The mod's own defaults are listed below. Check the file in your world if you want the values your game actually uses.[1]

  • doHeal: whether to set an entity's health when NaN is dealt or healed to it. The mod default is true.[1]
  • health: the percentage of max health to set the entity to in that case. The mod default is 1.0.[1]
  • log: whether to log events that set an entity's health to NaN. The mod default is true.[1]

Unverified Where the pack's quest book places NaNny, and whether the ATM Star path uses it, is not shown in the sources here. No chapter, group or neighbouring quests are confirmed for this mod.

How do you get started with NaNny?

1 part

NaNny is a safety-net mod. It cleans up after other mods that set an entity's health or absorption to NaN (not a number). It is built for Minecraft Neo/Forge.[1]

What it does for you

NaNny hooks into the following events. When one of them is affected by a NaN value, it cancels the event and can optionally heal the affected entity.[1]

  • LivingAttackEvent[1]
  • LivingDamageEvent[1]
  • LivingHealEvent[1]
  • LivingHurtEvent[1]

Unverified The sources here show no items, crafting recipes or quests for this mod in this pack, and no in-game guidebook, so there is no first item to craft and no recipe to show. The sources also do not show how the mod is configured in this pack.

How does NaNny work?

2 parts

NaNny works quietly in the background. It cleans up after other mods that set an entity's health or absorption to NaN ("not a number", a broken floating-point value). There is nothing for you to place or hook up, because the mod's whole job is to catch those bad values.[1]

What it does

NaNny hooks into these events, cancels them when they are affected, and can optionally heal the entity involved:[1]

  • LivingAttackEvent[1]
  • LivingDamageEvent[1]
  • LivingHealEvent[1]
  • LivingHurtEvent[1]

Config options in this pack

The mod's server config lives in nanny-server.toml, and in this pack every option sits at the mod's default.[1][3]

  • [[config:config/nanny-server.toml#Server Config for NaNny.doHeal]] is true. It enables setting an entity's health when NaN is dealt or healed to it.[1][3]
  • [[config:config/nanny-server.toml#Server Config for NaNny.health]] is 1, the same as the mod default, with an allowed range of 0.0 to 1.0. It is the percentage of max health the entity is set to when NaN is dealt or healed to it.[1][3]
  • [[config:config/nanny-server.toml#Server Config for NaNny.log]] is true. It logs events that set entities' health to NaN.[1][3]
Tip: If you want entities hit by a NaN effect to come back with less health, lower the health option. It takes a fraction of max health between 0.0 and 1.0, and this pack uses 1.[1][3]

Which NaNny config options matter?

NaNny has a very short config, and this pack leaves every option at the mod default. Nothing was changed, so you don't need to touch anything for it to work.[1][3]

  • [[config:config/nanny-server.toml#Server Config for NaNny.doHeal]] is true in this pack, the same as the mod default. With it on, NaNny sets an entity's health when NaN is dealt or healed to it.[1][3]
  • [[config:config/nanny-server.toml#Server Config for NaNny.health]] is 1 in this pack, which is also the mod default. It is the percentage of max health the entity is set to, on a range of 0.0 to 1.0, so 1 is the top of that range.[1][3]
  • [[config:config/nanny-server.toml#Server Config for NaNny.log]] is true in this pack, matching the mod default. It controls whether events that set an entity's health to NaN get logged.[1][3]
Tip: The pack's values are shown for config/nanny-server.toml. The mod's own page says it creates its config file at world/serverconfig/nanny-server.toml, so if edits don't seem to apply, check that location too.[1][3]

What changed in NaNny between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships NaNny 1.0.1, using the file NaNny-1.21.1-1.0.1.jar. The mod was already in the pack by FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so it isn't a new addition.[2]

Mod changelog

  • NaNny 1.0.1: the only note in the changelog is "Update to 1.21.1", so this release moved the mod to Minecraft 1.21.1.[4]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for NaNny were available, so any changes to it between individual FTB Skies 2 releases are unconfirmed.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as nanny, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
