What is Creeper Overhaul?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide

Creeper Overhaul replaces the vanilla creeper with a variety of biome-specific creeper types. Some of them are friendlier than others, so don't assume every new creeper is out to blow up your base.[1]

This pack ships version 4.0.6 of the mod, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]

Where it sits in the quest book

There's no quest chapter or group for Creeper Overhaul in this pack's quest book, so nothing comes before or after it there. It isn't on the ATM Star path either, which means you can skip it entirely if you're only chasing that goal.[2]

The sources I have don't show any pack-specific changes to this mod, so I won't describe any custom recipes or values for it.[2]

How do you get started with Creeper Overhaul?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Good news: Creeper Overhaul doesn't need any crafting to get going. The mod replaces the vanilla creeper with a variety of biome-specific creeper types, and some of them are friendlier than others. So your first step is simply to explore and see which creepers show up where you are.[1]

Tip: Because the creepers are tied to biomes, a different biome can mean a different creeper. Treat any creeper you haven't met yet with the same caution you'd give a vanilla one until you know how it behaves.[1]

What to make first

There is no crafting order to follow for this mod. I couldn't find any in-pack recipes that produce its items, and no quests in this pack involve it, so there's nothing for me to point you to with a recipe block.[1]

Unverified Whether any Creeper Overhaul creeper drops special items, how each creeper type behaves, and which biome spawns which type are not covered by the available sources, so I can't confirm them for this pack.

How does Creeper Overhaul work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide

Creeper Overhaul replaces the vanilla creeper with a variety of biome-specific creeper types. The sources for this mod cover mobs, their spawning and their drops, so that is what this section covers.[1]

Where creepers spawn

The mod removes vanilla creeper spawns from every biome in its own list of creeper biomes, so you meet the new types there instead. That list covers beaches, snowy biomes, deserts, hills, savannas, badlands, mushroom biomes, taigas, mountains, caves, jungles, swamps, dark forests and birch forests. It also includes the lukewarm ocean, deep lukewarm ocean and warm ocean.[3][4]

The cave part of that list is the common cave biome group with the deep dark taken out, so the deep dark is not on it.[4][5]

Each type is added to its own biomes with a spawn weight and a group size. Here is how the common ones line up. Every one of these uses weight 75 and spawns in groups of exactly 2.[6][7]

  • Badlands Creeper: badlands biomes, weight 75, groups of 2.[6]
  • Bamboo Creeper and Jungle Creeper: both in jungle biomes, weight 75, groups of 2.[7][8]
  • Beach Creeper: beaches, weight 75, groups of 2.[9]
  • Birch Creeper: birch forests, weight 75, groups of 2.[10]
  • Dark Oak Creeper: dark forests, weight 75, groups of 2.[11]
  • Desert Creeper: deserts, weight 75, groups of 2.[12]
  • Dripstone Creeper: the cave biome group described above, weight 75, groups of 2.[5][13]
  • Hills Creeper: hills, weight 75, groups of 2.[14]
  • Savannah Creeper: savannas, weight 75, groups of 2.[15]
  • Snowy Creeper: snowy biomes, weight 75, groups of 2.[16]
  • Spruce Creeper: taigas, weight 75, groups of 2.[17]
  • Swamp Creeper: swamps, weight 75, groups of 2.[18]

A few types are rarer or work differently. The Cave Creeper uses weight 50 in groups of 2, and it is added across the whole list of creeper biomes. The Mushroom Creeper has weight 10 and spawns in groups of 1 to 2 in mushroom biomes. The Ocean Creeper has weight 1 and spawns alone in the lukewarm ocean, deep lukewarm ocean and warm ocean.[4][19][20][21]

The Ocean Creeper has its own inflate and deflate sounds, and the game shows them as subtitles.[22]

What they drop

Drops differ per type. These are the loot tables available for this section.[23][24][25]

  • Badlands Creeper: 0 to 2 gunpowder, plus gold nuggets in a larger random amount. Looting can add 0 to 1 extra of each.[23]
  • Bamboo Creeper: 0 to 2 bamboo, with the same 0 to 1 looting bonus. Its loot table lists no gunpowder.[24]
  • Beach Creeper: 0 to 2 each of gunpowder, sand, prismarine shards and seagrass, each with the 0 to 1 looting bonus.[25]
  • Beach Creeper rare drop: a nautilus shell, only when a player kills it. The base chance is 0.005, and with looting it is 0.025 at the first level plus 0.02 for each level above that.[25]

Each of these loot tables also has a music disc pool. It drops a disc from the creeper music disc tag when the attacker is a skeleton.[23][24][25]

Tiny cactus

The mod also adds a Tiny Cactus block. Breaking it gives the tiny cactus back, and a potted one gives you both the flower pot and the tiny cactus.[22][26][27]

Tip: The mod also has a Cosmetics screen with a login button. The previews only work while you are in a world.[22]

How do you progress through Creeper Overhaul?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide

This mod doesn't give you a tier ladder to climb. What the sources here do confirm is what the creeper variants and the tiny cactus drop, so that's what I'll cover.[23][27]

Unverified Whether the pack's quest book has a chapter or quests for this mod, and whether any in-pack recipes involve its items, is not shown by the sources here. Check the quest book in game for that.

What the variants drop

  • The badlands creeper can drop Gunpowder and Gold Nugget, each in a random amount that can be zero. Looting can add a bit more of each.[23]
  • The bamboo creeper drops Bamboo in a random amount, and looting can add more.[24]
  • The birch creeper can drop Gunpowder and Birch Log, each in a random amount that looting can increase.[28]
  • The snowy creeper drops White Wool in a random amount, and looting can add more. Its loot table has no gunpowder entry.[29]
Tip: The badlands, bamboo and birch creepers each have an extra drop from the creeper music disc tag, and it only applies when a skeleton is the attacker. The snowy creeper's loot table has no such entry.[23][24][28][29]

Tiny cactus

The Tiny Cactus block drops itself when broken. If it is in a flower pot, you get both the Flower Pot and the tiny cactus back.[26][27]
