What is AE2:Crafting Tree?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

AE2:Crafting Tree is included in this pack as version 1.21.1-1.1.1, shipped as the file ae2ct-1.21.1-1.1.1.jar. It has been part of the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what AE2:Crafting Tree actually does, who it's best suited to, or any recipes, configs or items it adds, so I'm not going to guess. There is also no in-jar guidebook to draw on.

Unverified Where the mod fits in the pack's progression is unconfirmed. No quests in this pack involve it, and it does not appear on the ATM Star quest path, so you won't be pushed toward it by the questbook.

How do you get started with AE2:Crafting Tree?

2 parts

This one is short, because the sources for this mod only cover its screen text. What they do show is that the mod is about a screen called "Crafting Tree", opened with a "Show Crafting Tree" option. So your first step is to find that option and look at what it tells you.[2]

What the Crafting Tree screen tells you

The screen's text labels show the kind of information it gives you for each step of a craft. Here is what each label says.[2]

  • "need" shows how much of an input is required.[2]
  • "stored" shows how much you already have.[2]
  • "use" shows how much of what you have gets used.[2]
  • "missing" shows how much you are short.[2]
  • "crafting" shows how much is being crafted.[2]

Read "missing" first. It is the quickest way to see what is holding up a craft.[2]

Settings worth a look

  • A "Setting" screen is available from the Crafting Tree.[2]
  • "use compact crafting tree (beta)" is a checkbox. The label marks it as beta, so expect rough edges.[2]
  • A "Screenshot" option is there, with a "screenshot show count" checkbox. That is handy for sharing a tree or saving it for later.[2]

Unverified No in-pack recipe, quest or config file for this mod could be confirmed, so there is no verified first item to craft, and no quest-book order or config value to point you to.

How does AE2:Crafting Tree work?

1 part

The sources I have for this mod only cover two client-side display settings, so this section stays short. How the crafting tree is built, what it shows and how it plugs into AE2 crafting is not explained in anything I was given.[3]

Client display options

  • use_compact_tree switches between a compact tree (true) and a loose one (false). In this pack it is set to false, so you get the loose layout by default.[3]
  • screenshot_show_count controls whether the count is shown in a screenshot of the tree. In this pack it is set to false, so counts are not shown in screenshots by default.[3]
Tip: Both options live in the client config, so they only change how things look on your own screen. If you prefer a denser tree, flip the compact option to true.[3]

Unverified Machines, multiblocks, power, fluid and item handling, and automation for this mod are not covered by any source available to me, and no recipes for its items were provided. I can't confirm how the crafting tree is opened, what it displays, or whether it needs any specific items.

Which AE2:Crafting Tree config options matter?

AE2:Crafting Tree only has a small client-side config in this pack, so there isn't much to tweak. Both options live in config/ae2ct-client.toml and only affect how the crafting tree is displayed to you.[3]

  • use_compact_tree is set to false in this pack. The file describes it as true for a compact tree and false for a loose one, so you get the loose layout unless you change it.[3]
  • screenshot_show_count is set to false in this pack. The file describes it as showing the count in a screenshot, so item counts are not shown in screenshots of the tree by default.[3]
Tip: If you'd like a tighter tree, set use_compact_tree to true in the config file. If you want counts in your screenshots, set screenshot_show_count to true.[3]

Unverified The sources don't show the mod's own default values for these two options, so it's unconfirmed whether the pack changed either one from the default.
