What is Shrink?

Shrink is a small mod that lets you change your player's size. By shrinking, you can reach places that would normally be off-limits without breaking any blocks. Think secret passages, tiny nooks and narrow gaps.[1]

The mod adds a single item, the Personal Shrinking Device. Shift-right-click it and your player shrinks to about a quarter of a block in size.[1]

Per the mod's project page, the device needs power from any RF/Forge Energy source, and that requirement can be turned off in the configuration file. The sources here do not show whether this pack changes that setting.[1]

Being tiny doesn't make you weak. The project page says your small self can still wield mighty weapons and armor. It also warns that some mobs might not appreciate your new compactness, so be careful out there.[1]

This pack includes Shrink 2.1.1. The mod was already in the pack in version 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

How do you get started with Shrink?

4 parts

Good news: Shrink is a small mod, and getting started comes down to one item. The Personal Shrinking Device is the only thing you need to make, so there is no long progression to plan around.[1]

Step 1: craft the Personal Shrinking Device

The device is a normal shaped crafting recipe from the mod, and the recipe below is the exact one in this pack.[3]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

any iron ingotGlassany iron ingot
any iron ingotStone Buttonany iron ingot

Recipe id: shrink:shrinking_device

The only craftable item the mod adds, and it is all you need to shrink.

Step 2: give it power

The device runs on RF/Forge Energy, so hook it up to any energy source you already have. The pack's config sets the device's capacity to 100,000 (shrinkingDeviceCapacity) and its cost to 100 (shrinkingDeviceCost).[1][4]

Step 3: shrink down

Shift-right-click with the device and you shrink to about a quarter of a block in size. That lets you reach places that are normally off-limits without breaking any blocks, like narrow gaps and tiny nooks.[1]

The controls list also has a Shrink category with a key called Toggle Shrink, so check your key bindings if you want to set it up.[5]

Watch out: You keep your full punch while small and can still use weapons and armor, but some mobs may not appreciate your new size. Be careful when you go exploring.[1]

Size limits in this pack

The pack's config file sets the maximum shrink size (maxSize) to 10 and the minimum (minSize) to -1.[4]

How does Shrink work?

4 parts

Shrink is a small mod with a very simple core: one item, the Personal Shrinking Device, and one job, changing your player's size. There are no machines or multiblocks to build, and no fluid or item automation to set up.[1]

Using the device

Shift-right-click with the Personal Shrinking Device and your player shrinks to about the size of a quarter of a block. That lets you reach places that would normally be off-limits without breaking any blocks.[1]

Shrink also adds a key binding called Toggle Shrink, listed under the Shrink category in your controls.[5]

Power

The device needs power from any RF/Forge Energy source. The mod lets you switch this requirement off in its configuration file.[1]

In this pack, the config sets the device's capacity to 100,000 (shrinkingDeviceCapacity) and its cost to 100 (shrinkingDeviceCost).[4]

Size limits

The pack's config sets the maximum shrink size to 10 (maxSize) and the minimum shrink size to -1 (minSize).[4]

Capturing shrunken mobs

The mod's tooltips say you can right-click a shrunken entity with a glass bottle to capture it. The bottle's tooltip then shows what it contains.[5]

Watch out: Being small does not make you weaker: you can still wield weapons and armor. Some mobs might not appreciate your new size, so be careful.[1]

How do you progress through Shrink?

The only crafted item from Shrink that this pack's recipe data shows is the Personal Shrinking Device. Its recipe is a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod itself, not one the pack added.[3]

Check the recipe above for what you need to bring. Once you have crafted the device, you have everything this section can confirm about getting started with the mod in this pack.[3]

Which Shrink config options matter?

1 part

Shrink keeps its config small. Everything lives in one file, and this is how the pack sets each option.[4]

Why the device options matter

Shrink adds a single item, the Personal Shrinking Device. You shift-right-click it to shrink down to about the size of a quarter of a block.[1]

The device needs power from any RF/Forge Energy source, and the mod page says this requirement can be turned off in the configuration file. The capacity and cost options above are the device's own settings in that same file.[1][4]

Tip: The two size options are labelled as the maximum and minimum shrink size in the config file. If you want to change how small or large you can get, those are the two keys to look at.[4]

What changed in Shrink between versions?

1 part

Shrink is a small entry in the version history. FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Shrink 2.1.1, using the NeoForge build for Minecraft 26.1.2. The mod was first included in FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

Shrink 2.1.1

  • Port to Minecraft 26.1.2. This is the only change listed in the mod's own changelog for this version.[6]
