Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 1.0.2. A minecraft amethyst overhaul, adding mobs, items, and a biome. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul?

2 parts

Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul turns amethyst from a decorative block into a full adventure and progression system. You explore crystal formations, fight with sound-driven combat, meet crystallized wildlife and hostile manifestations, and work toward awakening a whole Crystal Forest.[1]

This pack includes version 1.0.2 of the mod.[2]

Combat and equipment

Resonant attacks mark enemies and increase the damage they take. Repeated strikes build momentum, and sweeping attacks spread Resonance through groups. Defeated resonating creatures may fracture into dangerous manifestations, so don't get too comfortable.[1]

  • The equipment path covers Resonant swords, spears, axes, tools, arrows, potions, armor, mount armor and a protective totem.[1]
  • Tools bring special abilities: shockwaves, chain mining, Resonant Paths and Harmonized Farmland.[1]
  • A complete armor set awakens the Harmonic Shield, which absorbs an attack and answers with a resonant counterwave.[1]
  • Frequency Relays and Resonant Lanterns turn crystal frequencies into detection, defense and redstone utility.[1]

Creatures and the Crystal Forest

  • Shattered Echoes are unstable crystal manifestations born from resonant fractures.[1]
  • Resonant Stalkers hunt creatures carrying Resonance.[1]
  • Crystal Wraiths claw their way up from underground in calcite and amethyst armor.[1]
  • Crystal Sentinels guard concentrated crystal power with focused beams and coordinated attacks.[1]
  • Crystal Rabbits and Crystal Armadillos behave like their vanilla relatives, with their own food and Crystal Scutes.[1]

The big goal is The Harmonic, a multi-phase boss found in a generated Harmonic Arena. Beating it lets the Crystal Forest spread, a calcite-and-amethyst ecosystem with several crystal tree forms, animated foliage, spires and massive geodes.[1]

The mod can be configured for Resonance damage, effect duration, Harmonic Shield cooldown and particle visibility.[1]

How do you get started with Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul?

6 parts

Resonance turns amethyst into a full progression path: Resonant weapons, tools and armor, then a boss fight against The Harmonic. This page walks you through what to craft first. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack recipes, so you don't need to memorise ingredients.[1]

Tip: The quest sources here don't cover this mod. Use the recipe blocks on this page and the mod's own advancements (which you can open in-game) as your checklist.[3]

Step 1: Craft an Amethyst Ingot

Everything starts with the Amethyst Ingot. Crafting one is also the root advancement of the mod, so it is the natural first goal.[3]

Step 2: Make your first Resonant weapons

Resonant attacks mark enemies and increase the damage they receive, and repeated strikes build momentum. A Resonant Sword is the simplest way to start using that. The mod also has advancements for crafting a Resonant Sword, a Resonant Spear and a Resonant Arrow.[1][3]

In this pack the Resonance effect lasts 100 ticks (5 seconds), and each amplifier level adds 0.2 to the damage multiplier (+20% damage taken). Both values match the mod defaults. You can see them in resonanceDuration and resonanceDamageBonus.[5]

Step 3: Craft the Resonant tools

There is an advancement for crafting every Resonant tool. The tools bring special abilities such as shockwaves, chain mining, Resonant Paths and Harmonized Farmland.[1][3]

Step 4: Build a full armor set

A complete set of Resonant armor awakens the Harmonic Shield. It absorbs an attack and answers with a resonant counterwave. In this pack its regeneration cooldown is 600 ticks (30 seconds), which is also the mod default. It is set by harmonicShieldCooldown.[1][5]

Step 5: Add utility and the extras

Frequency Relays and Resonant Lanterns turn crystal frequencies into detection, defense and redstone utility. The mod also adds a protective totem, and the Resonant Wolf Armor has its own advancement.[1][3]

Where this leads

Once you are geared up, the big goal is The Harmonic. You summon it by offering all three shards to the Chorus Resonator. Defeating it lets the Crystal Forest's influence spread.[1][3]

How does Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul work?

6 parts

Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul works differently from a tech mod. The sources for this pack show no machines, multiblock structures, power or fluid systems to wire up. The mod is built around one idea, the Resonance effect, and everything else (weapons, armor, the boss, the Crystal Forest) feeds into it.[1]

The Resonance effect

Resonant attacks mark an enemy, and a marked enemy takes extra damage. Repeated strikes build momentum, sweeping attacks spread Resonance through a group, and a defeated resonating creature may fracture into a dangerous manifestation. The mod's own tagline sums it up: the first blow is heard, the second is amplified.[1]

The pack leaves all of these numbers at the mod defaults, and they live in config/resonance-common.toml. resonanceDamageBonus is 0.2, which means +20% damage taken per Resonance amplifier level (range 0.0 to 2.0). resonanceDuration is 100 ticks, or 5 seconds (range 20 to 600). showParticles is true, so afflicted entities show particles.[5]

Harmonic Shield

Wear a complete set of Resonant armor (helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots) and you get the Harmonic Shield set bonus. It absorbs an attack and answers with a powerful resonant counterwave. The mod has sounds for both the shield absorbing a hit and the shield recharging.[1][3]

After the shield pops, it needs time to come back. harmonicShieldCooldown is 600 ticks, which is 30 seconds, and the pack keeps the mod default. The allowed range is 100 to 2400 ticks.[5]

Weapons and tools

The equipment line includes swords, spears, axes, tools, arrows, potions, armor, mount armor and a protective totem. The tools add special abilities: shockwaves, chain mining, Resonant Paths and Harmonized Farmland. Item tooltips hint at the style. The Resonant Axe "explodes with crystalline force", and the Resonant Spear "shatters what already resonates", which fits the Resonance mark idea above.[1][3]

Relays and lanterns

Frequency Relays and Resonant Lanterns turn crystal frequencies into detection, defense and redstone utility. These are the closest thing the mod has to automation blocks. The sources here do not spell out how each one behaves, so check them in game.[1]

The Harmonic boss

The big encounter is The Harmonic, a multi-phase boss that waits in a generated Harmonic Arena. It raises shields, summons Sentinels, draws beams across the arena, creates shockwaves and ground spikes, and calls down crystal rain. Its encounter state is persistent and safe for multiplayer. Victory lets the Crystal Forest's influence spread.[1]

The mod's advancements describe the summoning: offer all three shards to the Chorus Resonator to summon The Harmonic.[3]

Arenas generate only in the Crystallized End biome. The structure set uses random spread with a spacing of 32 and a separation of 16.[6][7][8]

Where the crystal content generates

  • The Crystallized End biome lists cracked geodes, massive geodes, crystal scatter, amethyst spires and massive spires. Its monster spawns include Endermen (4 at a time, weight 10) and Crystal Sentinels (1 at a time, weight 3).[9]
  • Cracked geodes use a rarity filter of 5 and generate between heights 35 and 58. Massive geodes use a rarity filter of 24 and generate between heights 30 and 55.[10][11]
  • Both geode types use budding amethyst as the alternate inner layer, amethyst block for the inner layer, calcite for the middle layer and smooth basalt for the outer layer.[12][13]
  • Amethyst spires use a rarity filter of 3 and massive spires use a rarity filter of 18.[14][15]
  • Shattered Echoes can spawn in any Overworld biome (weight 10, one at a time).[16]
  • The Crystal Forest biome spawns Crystal Rabbits (2 to 3, weight 10) and Crystal Armadillos (1 to 2, weight 8).[17]

Which Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul config options matter?

1 part

Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul has a small config file, config/resonance-common.toml. This pack leaves every option that has a listed mod default at that default, so what you see in the pack matches what the mod ships with. The ranges below are the limits the file allows if you want to tweak things yourself.[5]

The options

  • resonanceDuration is how long the Resonance effect lasts, in ticks. The pack sets it to 100 (5 seconds), the same as the mod default. The allowed range is 20 to 600.[5]
  • resonanceDamageBonus is the extra damage multiplier per Resonance amplifier level. The pack sets it to 0.2, so +20% damage taken per level, which is the mod default. The allowed range is 0.0 to 2.0.[5]
  • harmonicShieldCooldown is the cooldown in ticks for Harmonic Shield regeneration. The pack sets it to 600 (30 seconds), the same as the mod default. The allowed range is 100 to 2,400.[5]
  • showParticles controls whether afflicted entities show particles while they have Resonance. The pack sets it to true.[5]

Resonance is the effect that marks enemies and makes them take more damage from your attacks, so the duration and damage bonus are the two values that change how combat feels.[1]

Tip: If you want a longer window to land follow-up hits, raise resonanceDuration. The file accepts up to 600 ticks, and the pack's 100 is only the mod default.[5]

What changed in Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul between versions?

1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Resonance - Amethyst Overhaul at version 1.0.2. The mod was already in the pack as of FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, so this is the release you are playing with.[2]

Resonance 1.0.2

The mod's own 1.0.2 changelog is mostly about the Harmonic boss fight and the Crystal Wraith. Here is what changed:[18]

  • Fixed The Harmonic boss-fight music not playing.[18]
  • Added placeholder boss music while the final track is being developed. The music is by UniqueCreativeAudio.[18]
  • Fixed attacks against the Crystal Wraith's active armor feeling like they failed to connect.[18]
  • Shielded Wraith hits now display the damage highlight, apply knockback, and play both the Wraith damage and crystal impact sounds.[18]
  • Fixed the Crystal Wraith using the wrong hit sound.[18]
  • Fixed /locate searches for the Harmonic Arena freezing on affected world seeds.[18]

The same release also fixed Fabric items appearing in different creative-tab positions than their NeoForge versions. The jar in this pack is the NeoForge build.[2][18]

Tip: If you are fighting the Crystal Wraith, hits on its shielded armor now give proper feedback: the damage highlight, knockback and both sounds. If a hit seems to land, it did.[18]
