What is Not Enough Recipe Book [NERB]?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Not Enough Recipe Book, or NERB for short, does one thing: it completely removes the recipe book from the game. Other mods just hide the recipe book button. NERB removes the recipe book's functionality entirely.[1]
The reason is player data. In a large modpack, a fully unlocked recipe book fills your player data with recipe names. You can see this by running /data get entity @s, which prints a huge wall of text. With NERB installed, those recipe names disappear.[1]
Why you'd want it
- Scripts that read player data, such as CraftTweaker or KubeJS scripts using event.player.data, run faster because there is much less data to read.[1]
- Data sync between the server and the client is faster.[1]
- Players join the world faster.[1]
This mod is mostly for pack makers and server admins who care about performance. If you just play the pack, you don't have to do anything. It works in the background.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Not Enough Recipe Book version 0.4.3, built for NeoForge.[2]
Unverified The sources I was given don't show any quests, guidebook entries or ATM Star path steps for this mod, so I can't say where it fits in progression. It looks like a background performance mod rather than something you progress through.
How do you get started with Not Enough Recipe Book [NERB]?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Good news: there's nothing to set up here. Not Enough Recipe Book (NERB) has one job, which is to remove the recipe book from the game completely. It doesn't just hide the recipe book button, it removes the recipe book's functionality entirely.[1]
What it does for you
In a big modpack with a fully unlocked recipe book, running /data get entity @s dumps a huge amount of player data, and most of it is recipe names. With NERB installed, those recipe names disappear.[1]
- Scripts that read player data, such as CraftTweaker or KubeJS scripts using event.player.data, run faster.[1]
- Other mods that read player data also get faster.[1]
- Data sync between the server and the client speeds up.[1]
- Players join the world faster.[1]
What to make first
Unverified No crafting recipes, quests, or items for this mod were found in the data available for this guide, so there is nothing to craft or unlock. To find recipes, use your recipe viewer instead of the vanilla recipe book, which this mod removes. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does Not Enough Recipe Book [NERB] work?

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
This mod has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to learn. It does one job: it completely removes the recipe book from the game. That makes this section short, but it's worth knowing what the mod does behind the scenes.[1]
What it actually does
Plenty of mods hide the recipe book button. This one doesn't stop at hiding it. It removes the recipe book's functionality entirely.[1]
Why it helps in a big modpack
In a large modpack with a fully unlocked recipe book, run /data get entity @s and you'll get a huge wall of data. Most of it is recipe names. With this mod installed, those recipe names disappear from your player data.[1]
- Scripts that read player data, such as CraftTweaker or KubeJS scripts using event.player.data in event scripts, run faster because there's far less data to read.[1]
- Other mods that read player data benefit in the same way.[1]
- Data sync between the server and the client speeds up.[1]
- Players join the world faster.[1]
Unverified Nothing beyond the project description is documented for this mod in this pack. No config options, items, recipes or in-game descriptions were available, so there's no way to tune it and it adds no crafting content. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Which Not Enough Recipe Book [NERB] config options matter?
2 parts
NERB has very little to configure. The one option you will actually care about is buttonMode, which decides what happens to the recipe book button in your inventory.[3]
buttonMode in this pack
This pack sets buttonMode to "TOGGLE". The recipe book button stays in your inventory, but instead of opening the recipe book it toggles the visibility of the JEI/REI/EMI UI. The recipe book's own default functionality stays disabled.[3]
These are all the values the config accepts:[3]
- DISABLED: removes the recipe book button and its default functionality from your inventory.[3]
- ENABLED: keeps the recipe book button in your inventory, but its default functionality remains disabled.[3]
- DISCOVERED: automatically unlocks all existing recipes in your recipe book. It does not apply any optimizations.[3]
- TOGGLE: keeps the button, but it toggles the JEI/REI/EMI UI instead of the recipe book. This is the value the pack uses.[3]
schemaVersion
schemaVersion is set to 1 and is marked "DO NOT CHANGE" in the file, so leave it alone.[3]
What changed in Not Enough Recipe Book [NERB] between versions?
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Not Enough Recipe Book [NERB] at version 0.4.3+26.1.2, using the file nerb-neoforge-0.4.3+26.1.2.jar. The mod was already in the pack in 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new addition in this release.[4]
The only change the mod's own changelog gives for 0.4.3+26.1.2 is that it was ported to 26.1.2.[5]
The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there is nothing more to report on how it changed between pack releases.[4]

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as nerb, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
