What is NeoSync?
1 part
NeoSync lets you grow spare bodies, called shells, and move your mind between them. Every shell keeps its own inventory, experience and game mode, so you can leave one body in storage on the other side of the world, sync into it whenever you like, and sync back when you are done.[1][2]
This pack includes NeoSync 26.1.2-1.7.1. Its settings live in config/neosync-common.toml.[3][4]
The basic loop
- Craft a Sync Core. It is the key ingredient in every NeoSync block.[5]
- Craft and place a Shell Constructor. It is two blocks tall, so leave room above it. Right-click it with an empty hand to give it a genetic sample and start growing a shell.[5][6]
- Power the constructor. Place a treadmill against it and lure a pig or wolf onto the front block, or use any Forge Energy source. A full shell needs 256,000 FE by default.[5][6]
- Craft and place a Shell Storage, then give it a redstone signal or feed it FE. When it has power the doors open.[5][7]
- Walk into the open storage, pick a shell from the selector and your mind moves into it. Your old body stays in the storage with everything it was carrying.[5]
If you want to skip the power step, you can upgrade a constructor with a nether star into a Zero Point Shell Constructor. It needs no power and finishes shells instantly, though the sample still costs health.[6]
JEI and Jade are optional extras. JEI adds information pages for the NeoSync blocks, and Jade shows owner, build progress and power state when you look at them.[8]
Unverified Where the pack's quest book places NeoSync (its chapter, group and neighbouring quests) and whether the ATM Star path uses it are not shown in the sources here. Check the pack's quest book directly.
How do you get started with NeoSync?
6 parts
NeoSync lets you grow spare bodies, called shells, and move your mind between them. Each shell keeps its own inventory, experience and game mode. Your first goal is one loop: build a shell, power it, store it, then sync. Do the steps in this order.[2]
Step 1: Make a Sync Core
Start with the Sync Core. It is the key component in the shell blocks, and you combine it with other materials to make both the constructor and the storage. Picking up your first one also unlocks the NeoSync advancement tree.[5][9][10]

Step 2: Place a Shell Constructor
The Shell Constructor grows your new body. It is two blocks tall, so leave a free block above it. Right-click it with an empty hand to give it a genetic sample and start the shell.[5][6]

Step 3: Power it with a Treadmill
A full shell needs 256,000 FE, set by energy.shellConstructorCapacity. The easiest early source is the Treadmill. It is two blocks long and places like a bed, extending away from you, with the far block as the front. Put either half against the constructor.[5][12][13]

Lure a pig or a wolf onto the front block. The animal runs in place and the constructor fills up. With the pack's energy map, a pig gives 16 FE per tick and a wolf gives 22. Any other Forge Energy cable or generator works too.[5][12][13]
To check progress, put a comparator against the constructor. Jade shows the build as a percentage.[5][6]
Step 4: Place a Shell Storage
The Shell Storage holds a body while your mind is elsewhere. Like the constructor, it is two blocks tall. Place it wherever you want to be able to travel to.[5][7]

Give it a redstone signal or feed it FE, and the doors open. The pack leaves shellStorage.acceptsRedstone on. The storage has a 320 FE buffer and drains 16 FE per tick. If it loses power, the shell inside survives only 20 ticks by default.[7][12]
Step 5: Sync
Walk into the open storage and the shell selector appears with every finished shell you own, grouped by world. Click one and your mind moves into it. Your old body stays in the storage with everything it was carrying. You can right-click a shell in the selector to rename it.[5][14]
If you die in a shell while another finished shell is available, you sync straight into the next body. The pack has sync.autoSyncOnDeath enabled. Dying in your original body is a normal death.[12][14]
Where to go next
- Manual Shell Storage is a storage whose shell is never picked for you when you die. It suits single-purpose bodies, like a mining body with tools.[7]
- Zero Point Shell Constructor needs no power and finishes shells instantly, but the sample still costs health.[6]
- Zero Point Shell Storage needs no redstone or FE, opens its doors as you approach, and its shell never decays.[7]
- Sneak and right-click a constructor or storage with a dye to recolor its trim, which helps you tell shells apart in the selector.[6][7]
How does NeoSync work?
7 parts
NeoSync boils down to three machines that feed each other: a Shell Constructor grows the body, a Treadmill (or any other FE source) powers it, and a Shell Storage keeps the finished body alive until you walk in and sync. Every shell keeps its own inventory, experience and game mode. Here is how each part behaves in this pack.[2][6][7]
The Sync Core
The Sync Core is the key ingredient in every shell block. Combine it with gray concrete to make a constructor or a storage. Picking up your first one unlocks the NeoSync advancement tree.[9][10]

Shell Constructor
The constructor is two blocks tall, so leave a free block above it when you place it. Right-click it with an empty hand to give it a genetic sample, and it starts growing a shell that belongs to you. Only one shell can grow in a constructor at a time, and it stays there until you sync into it.[6]

The sample hurts. damage.fingerstickDamage is 20 in this pack and damage.hardcoreFingerstickDamage is 40, both the mod defaults, and 20 is a full health bar. If you die, the shell still starts building.[6][12]
- Eat a golden apple or an enchanted golden apple first, for absorption.[6]
- Hold a totem of undying in either hand.[6]
- Ask the server owner to turn on general.warnPlayerInsteadOfKilling. It is off in this pack. When on, the sample is refused instead of killing you if you lack the health.[6][12]
A full shell needs energy.shellConstructorCapacity FE, which is 256,000 in this pack. energy.shellConstructionSpeed is 2.5 here. The constructor needs the capacity divided by the speed in FE to finish, so a higher speed builds faster. Any Forge Energy source works: a treadmill touching the constructor, an FE cable, or a generator from another mod.[6][12]
A comparator against the constructor outputs build progress, and Jade shows the owner and a percentage. With general.enableInstantShellConstruction turned on (it is off in this pack), shells finish instantly for creative players.[4][6][12]
Sneak and right-click the constructor with a dye to recolor its trim. Shells built inside take that color in the shell selector.[6]
Treadmill

Recipe id: neosync:treadmill
Treadmill recipe.
The treadmill is two blocks long and places like a bed: it extends away from you, and the far block is the front. Put either half against a constructor or storage, or against any block that accepts Forge Energy. Lure an animal onto the front block and it locks on, runs in place and generates energy every tick. That energy goes into every FE receiver touching either half.[13]
An animal stops counting as a runner while it is a baby, leashed, told to sit, taking damage, or standing in water. Players can run too, but a crouching player does not.[13]
The FE per tick for each runner comes from energyProduction.energyMap. This pack uses these values:[12][13]
- Chicken: 2 FE per tick[12][13]
- Pig: 16 FE per tick[12][13]
- Player: 20 FE per tick[12][13]
- Wolf: 22 FE per tick[12][13]
- Villager: 25 FE per tick[12][13]
- Creeper: 80 FE per tick[12][13]
- Enderman: 160 FE per tick[12][13]
Entries use the form entity_id:energy_per_tick, so minecraft:horse:30 would add horses at 30 FE per tick. With JEI installed, the Treadmill Energy Sources category lists the live values for the server.[4][13]
Shell Storage

Like the constructor, the storage is two blocks tall. It needs power to keep its shell alive and takes either a redstone signal or Forge Energy. shellStorage.acceptsRedstone is true in this pack. The buffer (energy.shellStorageCapacity) holds 320 FE and energy.shellStorageConsumption drains 16 FE per tick to keep the shell alive.[7][12]
When the storage has power, its doors open. Walk into an open storage to bring up the shell selector, or step into an empty one to leave your current body there. If power is lost, the storage keeps its shell for shellStorage.maxUnpoweredLifespan ticks (20 in this pack), then the shell inside dies.[7][12]
Automation and Redstone
- Hoppers pointed into a storage can equip or unequip armor and tools on the stored shell.[7]
- A comparator on a storage reads either build progress or inventory fullness. Right-click with the wrench item to switch. tools.wrench is minecraft:stick in this pack.[7][12]
- Sneak and right-click a storage with a dye to color its trim and the shell inside. Colors show in the selector and can drive sync.syncPriority.[7]
- Mining a storage or constructor with any pickaxe drops the block, no silk touch needed. The constructor and storage drop only from their lower half, and the treadmill drops only from its back part.[7][15][16][17][18]
Manual and Zero Point Variants
The Manual Shell Storage is a storage whose shell is never picked for you when you die. It suits single-job bodies, such as a mining body loaded with tools. You walk in and sync into it by hand like any other storage, and it shows as Manual in the selector.[7][14]

Syncing and Death
Walking into an open storage opens a radial selector with one entry per shell you own, grouped by world. Each entry shows the shell's coordinates and, for an unfinished shell, its progress. Right-click an entry to rename it. Syncing works across dimensions, including custom ones, and your old body stays where it is with everything it carries.[14]
If you die in a shell while another finished shell is available, you sync straight into the next body when sync.autoSyncOnDeath is on, as it is in this pack. The dead shell drops its inventory where it died, and the death does not count towards your death counter. Dying in your original body is a normal death, and shells in a manual storage are never chosen automatically.[12][14]
sync.syncPriority decides the order when more than one shell qualifies. This pack uses NATURAL, which prefers your original body. NEAREST prefers the closest shell, and a dye color name prefers shells in a storage of that color. Several values can be listed, and the first one that matches a shell wins.[12][14]
How do you progress through NeoSync?
7 parts
Progression in NeoSync is one short loop: build a shell, power it, store it, then sync into it. You craft a handful of blocks in order, and the Zero Point constructor is an optional upgrade at the end.[2][6]
Unverified No quests in this pack involve NeoSync, so this page follows the order of the mod's own in-game guide instead of a quest chapter.
Step 1: The Sync Core
Everything starts with the Sync Core. It is the key ingredient in every NeoSync block, so you craft it first.[5]

Step 3: Power the Constructor
The Treadmill is NeoSync's own way to power the constructor. Place it so either half touches the constructor. It places like a bed: two blocks long, extending away from you, with the far block as the front. Then lure a pig or a wolf onto the front block. The animal runs in place and the constructor fills up.[5]

Any Forge Energy cable or generator pointed at the constructor works too. A comparator on the constructor reports build progress, and Jade shows it as a percentage.[5][6]
Step 4: The Shell Storage
Craft a Shell Storage and place it somewhere you want to be able to travel to. Give it a redstone signal or feed it FE, and the doors open once it has power.[5]

Which NeoSync config options matter?
4 parts
Everything for NeoSync lives in one file, config/neosync-common.toml. For every option where the config shows a mod default, this pack uses that same default. So you get the standard NeoSync numbers, and the options below are the ones you'll most likely want to tweak.[12]
Cost of making a shell
- damage.fingerstickDamage is 20 in this pack (in half hearts), the same as the mod default. It is the damage you take when you give a genetic sample.[1][12]
- damage.hardcoreFingerstickDamage is 40 in this pack, also the mod default.[12]
- general.warnPlayerInsteadOfKilling is false, so you are not just warned when you lack the health, you can actually die for science. The mod's own page suggests flipping this option if you'd rather not.[1][12]
- general.enableInstantShellConstruction is false, so the creative-mode instant construction is off.[12]
Power and build speed
- energy.shellConstructionSpeed is 2.5, the mod default. The constructor needs its capacity divided by this value in FE to finish a shell, so a higher number builds faster.[12]
- energy.shellConstructorCapacity is 256,000, the mod default.[12]
- energy.shellStorageCapacity is 320 and energy.shellStorageConsumption is 16 per tick. Both are mod defaults.[12]
- shellStorage.maxUnpoweredLifespan is 20 ticks, the mod default. This is how long a shell storage can run without power.[12]
- shellStorage.acceptsRedstone is true, so shell storage accepts redstone power.[12]
The treadmill's output comes from energyProduction.energyMap, which uses the format entity_id:energy_per_tick. This pack lists chicken at 2, pig at 16, player at 20, villager at 25, wolf at 22, creeper at 80 and enderman at 160.[12]
Syncing
- sync.autoSyncOnDeath is true: dying in an artificial body automatically syncs you into another finished shell.[12]
- sync.syncPriority is set to NATURAL only. It decides which shell is picked first for automatic synchronization.[12]
- sync.preserveOrigins is false, so shells do not all share the same origins.[12]
Odds and ends
- tools.wrench is set to Stick, so a stick is the item used as the wrench.[12]
- The Technoblade easter egg is on: easterEggs.enableTechnobladeEasterEgg, easterEggs.allowTechnobladeQuotes and easterEggs.allowTechnobladeAnnouncements are all true.[12]
- easterEggs.renderTechnobladeCape is false, so the cape is not rendered.[12]
- easterEggs.technobladeQuoteDelay is 1,800 ticks, the mod default.[12]
What changed in NeoSync between versions?
1 part
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships NeoSync version 26.1.2-1.7.1. The mod was already in the pack by FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new addition in this release.[3]
26.1.2-1.7.1
- Added an in-game guide book that appears when GuideMe is installed. It covers the shell loop from Sync Core to first sync, every block, dying in a shell, the commands, the config and the mod integrations.[19]
- The guide book sits in the NeoSync creative tab and in JEI. Hovering a NeoSync item and pressing GuideMe's hotkey opens that item's page.[19]
If you want to learn the mod without leaving the game, this is the change to know about. Make sure GuideMe is installed, because the book only shows up with it.[19]
Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for NeoSync, so any changes to the mod between FTB Evolution 2 releases are unverified. Check the pack's own changelogs for that detail.
