What is Macaw's Bridges?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Macaw's Bridges is a simple building mod that adds a big variety of bridges to the game. If you like decorating your bases, building walkways over water or gaps, or just want your builds to look less plain, this one is for you.[1]

The mod's models have been reworked to fit in with vanilla gameplay, and the newer versions also improve the in-game models for Bridge Stairs. You can light bridges with torches, so your walkways don't turn into mob spawning spots at night.[1]

This pack ships Macaw's Bridges 3.1.2 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod's own page recommends running a recent version because it improves performance, so you are on the kind of build the author suggests.[1][2]

Where it fits in progression

Bridges are a decorative and building option. Nothing in the sources I have gates them behind a progression step or ties them to a machine chain, so you can use them whenever you like.[1]

Unverified No quests in this pack involve the mod, and it is not on the ATM Star quest path. No in-jar guidebook was found for it either, so there is no extra in-game documentation to point you to.

How do you get started with Macaw's Bridges?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Macaw's Bridges is a simple mod that adds a lot of bridges, and the whole kit comes down to a few pieces: the bridge, its stairs, a support, and some light. Here is the order I'd make them in.[1]

Make the bridge itself

Start with the main walkway piece. I'll use the Acacia Bridge as the example. Stone-style options like Andesite Bridge and Balustrade Stone Bricks Bridge exist too, so pick whichever matches your build.[3]

This is the in-pack recipe for the Acacia Bridge, a shaped crafting recipe.

Add stairs for the ends

Next, craft the matching stair so you can walk up onto your bridge or follow a slope. The Acacia Bridge Stair is the partner for the Acacia Bridge. There is also a shapeless recycle recipe whose output is the Acacia Bridge, so you can check the recipe viewer if you made the wrong piece.[3]

Support it

Long spans need something underneath. The wood sets have a support piece, such as the Acacia Bridge Support. Some stone sets call theirs a pier instead, like the Cobblestone Bridge Pier.[3]

Light it up

Bridges can be lit with torches. The mod adds the Bridge Torch and the Bridge Lantern for this. The mod's tooltip for its lights says to use them on the handrails of bridges and stairs.[1][3][4]

Open up an entrance

Once a bridge is wider than one block, you can cut an entrance into it. Right-click a bridge with pliers to make one. This only works on bridges that are 2 or more blocks wide. Pliers or shears can be used to adjust the entrance afterwards.[4]

How does Macaw's Bridges work?

5 parts

Macaw's Bridges is a simple building mod. It adds a lot of bridges, so there are no machines to wire up here. The systems that matter are how you place a bridge, how you adjust it, how you light it and how you craft and convert the pieces.[1]

Bridge pieces

Each material comes in a few pieces. Take Acacia as the example: the plain Acacia Bridge, the Acacia Bridge Stair, the Acacia Bridge Support (shown in game as a Bridge Support) and the Acacia Rail Bridge. Rope versions such as Rope Acacia Bridge Stair exist too. Stone-style materials follow the same pattern, for example Andesite Bridge, Andesite Bridge Stair and Andesite Bridge Pier. There are also balustrade variants like Balustrade Andesite Bridge.[5][6]

Adjusting entrances with Pliers

The mod's own text says bridges can have their entrance adjusted with Pliers or Shears. Pliers work by right clicking a bridge to make an entrance, and they only work on bridges that are 2 or more blocks wide.[5]

Tip: If the Pliers do nothing, check the width of your bridge first. The tooltip says they only work on bridges that are 2+ wider.[5]

Lighting

Bridges can be lit with torches. The mod adds Bridge Torch and Bridge Lantern, and the mod's light tooltip says to use them on the handrails of bridges and stairs.[1][5][7][8]

Crafting and converting

In this pack the pieces come from three kinds of recipe. The recipe dump counts 152 shaped crafting recipes, 68 stonecutting recipes and 42 shapeless crafting recipes that make Macaw's Bridges items. Here is how the Acacia set is made. The shaped recipe for the plain bridge gives 4 bridges per craft.[6]

Crafting Shaped

Stairs and supports are shaped recipes too. The stair recipe makes 6 per craft and the support recipe makes 3.[6]

There are also shapeless recipes with "recycle" in their ids. The Acacia one has the plain Acacia Bridge as its result, so you can turn pieces back into a basic bridge block.[6]

Stone-style bridges also have stonecutter recipes, for the bridge, its stair and its pier. The balustrade variants have them as well.[6]

    Breaking and picking up

Bridges, stairs, piers, rail bridges, the Bridge Torch and the Bridge Lantern all drop themselves when broken. Their loot tables have one pool with a single roll that gives the block's own item.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

How do you progress through Macaw's Bridges?

    3 parts

Macaw's Bridges does not have a tier ladder in this pack. What the recipes show is a big set of material variants (wood, stone, brick, metal and more), and the recipes listed for them follow a shared pattern for each type of piece. Here is what the in-pack recipes confirm.[6]

    Stonecutter and recycle recipes

The stone-style materials also have stonecutter recipes. For example, Andesite Bridge, Andesite Bridge Pier and Andesite Bridge Stair each have one, and each makes a single item.[6]

    Stonecutting

      Recipe id: mcwbridges:stonecutter_andesite_bridge

      Stonecutting gives one bridge piece.

There are also shapeless recipes with "stair_recycle" in their names. Each one makes a plain bridge piece, such as Andesite Bridge or Acacia Bridge.[6]

      Crafting Shapeless

      Recipe id: mcwbridges:andesite_bridge_stair_recycle

      How big is the set?

The pack has 152 shaped crafting recipes, 68 stonecutting recipes and 42 shapeless recipes for this mod, and every one of them makes a different result.[6]

When you break the Acacia bridge, support, stair, rail bridge and rope stair pieces, each one drops itself, so you can pick them up and move them.[9][10][11][12][13]
