What is Horsing Around?

Horsing Around is part of the pack at version 0.3.4, shipped as the file HorsingAround-26.1.2-0.3.4.jar.[1]

It is not a recent addition: it was already in the pack in 1.0.2 or earlier, so it has been there for a while.[1]

How do you get started with Horsing Around?

3 parts

Here's the good news: Horsing Around gives you a call menu for your tamed mounts, and the sources for this pack don't show any crafting you have to do first. You tame a mount, get it onto your call list, and open the menu.[2]

Step 1: Find the call menu key

The mod adds a keybind called "Open Call Menu", listed under the "Horsing Around" category in your controls. Check it there and bind it to something comfortable. The menu itself is a radial menu with slices.[2]

Step 2: Get a mount onto your call list

If you open the menu with nothing added, the mod tells you: "You don't have any tamed entities added to your list". So the first job is getting your tamed mounts onto that list.[2]

The mod has config options that can add mounts to the list automatically. General.addOnTame adds mountable entities to the call list when they are tamed. General.addOnMount adds tamed mountable entities when you mount them. This pack sets both to false, the same as the mod default, so neither happens automatically here.[2][3]

Tip: Both automatic options are off in this pack. If your list stays empty after taming a horse, check those settings in config/horsingaround-common.toml first.[2][3]

Step 3: Know what can't be called

General.entityBlacklist is a list of entity ids that are prohibited from being called. In this pack it is empty, so nothing is blocked by default.[2][3]

Unverified The sources here show no crafting recipes and no quests for Horsing Around, so whether there is anything to craft first, or where the quest book mentions the mod, is unverified.

How does Horsing Around work?

4 parts

The sources for Horsing Around show a call system: you keep a list of tamed mountable entities and open a menu to call them.[2]

The call menu

The mod adds a keybind called "Open Call Menu", listed under the Horsing Around category in your controls. It opens a radial menu of the tamed entities on your list. If the list is empty, you get the message "You don't have any tamed entities added to your list".[2]

The menu has some display settings. You can limit how many tamed entities are visible at once (the mod default is 20), switch the slices from a smooth circle to a hexagonal style, and change the colour of a slice when you hover over it.[2]

Getting entities onto the list

Entities can be added to the call list automatically, controlled by these options. General.addOnMount adds a tamed mountable entity when you mount it. General.addOnTame adds a mountable entity as soon as it is tamed. Both default to false in the mod, and the pack's config file also sets both to false.[2][3]

Tip: Because both options are false in the pack, mounting or taming an animal does not add it to your call list through these settings. If your menu stays empty, check them in the config file first.[2][3]

Blocking entities from being called

General.entityBlacklist is a list of entity ids that are prohibited from being called. The pack leaves it empty, so it blocks nothing through this setting.[2][3]

The mod's jar also ships an entity type tag called blacklist, and it is empty as well.[4]

Linking tag

The mod's jar includes an item tag called linking, and its only entry is Golden Apple.[5]

How do you progress through Horsing Around?

The data I have for Horsing Around in this pack is limited to a couple of small tag files from the mod's own jar, so this section stays short and shows no tier ladder.[4][5]

The mod's item tag called linking lists a single item: Golden Apple.[5]

The mod's entity blacklist tag is empty, so the mod's own data does not exclude any entity types.[4]

Unverified Whether the pack's quest book has a chapter for this mod, and whether any recipes in the pack produce its items, is not shown by the sources here. Check the quest book in the pack itself for that.

Which Horsing Around config options matter?

Horsing Around has a small common config. It controls how mounts end up on your call list and which entities can never be called. In this pack, every value matches the mod default as the file shows it, so nothing was changed.[3]

  • General.addOnMount is set to false. When it is on, tamed mountable entities are added to your call list upon mounting. The default is also false, so in this pack you don't get that automatic behaviour.[3]
  • General.addOnTame is set to false. When it is on, mountable entities are added to your call list upon being tamed. The default is also false, so taming a mount here does not add it by itself.[3]
  • General.entityBlacklist is an empty list. Any entity ids you put in it are prohibited from being called. With the list empty, this pack blocks no entities.[3]
Tip: If you want mounts to join your call list without extra steps, switch on one or both of the two add options in config/horsingaround-common.toml. If a specific creature should never be callable, add its entity id to the blacklist.[3]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as horsingaround, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
