What is Hephaestus Tools?

Hephaestus Tools is part of this pack's mod list, and the pack ships version 1.0.6 of it. The file in the pack is hephaestus_tools-neoforge-26.1.2-1.0.6.jar, so it is the NeoForge build.[1]

It is not a recent addition. The pack's records show it was first included in version 1.0.2 or earlier, and it is still in the current 1.1.0 release.[1]

That is all the sources for this guide confirm about the mod, so this overview stays short rather than guessing at features, recipes or quest placement.[1]

How do you get started with Hephaestus Tools?

4 parts

In the Forge Table you drag parts onto a tool to put it together, so your first job is getting that table. Here is the order I'd go in.[2][3]

Craft the Forge Table

The Forge Table is the workbench where you put tools together, and its in-game name is Forge Table. It has an ordinary shaped crafting recipe from the mod, so make it before anything else.[2][3]

Make your first parts from wood

Every part has a wood version made by stonecutting, and these recipes come from the mod itself. That covers Pickaxe Head, Small Axe Head, Adze Head, Small Blade, Broad Axe Head, Hammer Head, Large Blade, Large Plate and Tool Binding. Here is the pickaxe head as an example.[2]

The other wood parts follow the same pattern, each with its own wood_ recipe.

There is also a crafting recipe for the Pattern, which comes from the mod too.[2]

Move on to cast metal parts

Once you have molten metal, the pack adds casting table recipes that turn it into the same parts. Gold, Adamant, Awakened Supremium and Stainless Steel are all covered. Molten Stainless Steel is a Colossal Reactors fluid (Colossal Reactors) and Molten Awakened Supremium is a Mystical Agradditions fluid (Mystical Agradditions).[2]

The amount of molten metal depends on the part, and it is the same for Gold, Adamant, Awakened Supremium and Stainless Steel:[2]

    • Tool Binding: 90[2]
    • Pickaxe Head, Small Axe Head, Adze Head and Small Blade: 180 each[2]
    • Large Plate: 360[2]
    • Broad Axe Head, Hammer Head and Large Blade: 720 each[2]

Tip: The pack has many more casting recipes than the ones written out here, including ones that use other molten materials.[2]

    Put a tool together

Open the Forge Table and follow its on-screen prompts. These are the steps the table's own text describes:[3]

    1. Choose a tool, then drop a material or a part on the table and drag it onto the tool.[3]
    2. Use Take parts from inventory (the G key) to fill the table from your bag instead of placing parts one by one.[3]
    3. Press Craft (Space) to put the tool together and forge it. Hold Shift to skip the animation.[3]

The table shows stats like durability, attack damage, attack speed and the hardest block the tool can collect, so you can see what a part choice does before you commit.[3]

    How does Hephaestus Tools work?

    7 parts

Hephaestus Tools does its work at one station, the Forge Table (Forge Table in game). You build tools, repair them, swap parts and install modifiers all from its screen. The sources here do not describe any power, fluid or automation systems for this mod, so this section covers what the Forge Table screen and the part recipes show.[3]

    Building a tool

The screen walks you through each step with on-screen hints. The flow looks like this:[3]

    1. Pick a tool from the Choose a tool list. If you already have a finished tool, put it in the slot above the hotbar instead to repair it or change its parts.[3]
    2. Insert the parts. Click a part in your inventory, then click the table to put it down. Pressing G takes the matching parts from your inventory for you.[3]
    3. Drag each part from the table onto the tool. Each part is marked as missing, on the table or attached, so you can see what is left to do.[3]
    4. When every part is attached, the screen says Ready. Press Forge (or Space) to craft. Hold Shift to skip the animation.[3]
    5. Collect the result.[3]

A few extra keys help while you work: F inspects the tool up close, R spins it, Tab moves to the next tab, E opens your bag and Esc leaves the workbench. In creative mode no materials are consumed.[3]

    Reading the stats

The preview panel shows bars for attack damage, attack speed, durability, mining speed and what the tool can mine. The in-game help text explains them: more damage bars means harder hits, more speed bars means quicker swings or faster block breaking, durability is how many blocks it breaks (or hits it lands) before breaking, and harvest is the hardest block the tool can collect. Tools are sorted into Combat, Harvest, Mining and Utility categories.[3]

    Repairing and swapping parts

To repair, put in a damaged tool and its repair material, then hammer the material into the tool. Each repair gives +25% durability. On a tool at max level you can drop a new part on it to swap the old one, and the tool keeps its XP and modifiers.[3]

    Modifiers and slots

Modifiers are installed from their own list on the left of the screen. You can filter it to show only the modifiers you can apply right now, and the screen tells you when you lack the materials or a free slot. Some slots are locked at first. If you see No free slot, level the tool up to unlock more.[3]

    Mastery paths

Tools also have mastery paths with three tiers: Awakening, Evolution and Mastery, listed at Lv 10 / 20 / 30. Each choice needs the tool to reach the stated level first. The choice is permanent, and the tool cannot change paths afterward, so pick carefully.[3]

    Making the parts

In this pack, metal tool heads are cast in a casting table from molten metals, and the pack added these recipes itself. An Adze Head takes 180 of the molten metal. A Broad Axe Head, a Hammer Head and a Large Blade each take 720.[2]

The pack has casting recipes for molten gold, molten adamant, molten stainless steel (from Colossal Reactors) and molten awakened supremium (from Mystical Agradditions). Adamant and gold are listed for all four parts. Stainless steel and awakened supremium are listed for the adze, broad axe and hammer heads.[2]

Wooden versions of the adze, broad axe and hammer heads are made by stonecutting rather than casting. The Pattern has its own shaped crafting recipe.[2]

    What the pack changes

    • A pack script adds Broad Axe to the minecraft:axes item tag, so it counts as an axe for anything that checks that tag.[5]
    • The mod's incorrect-for tool tier tags for adamantite and aurichalcum both point at the tag #ftbarmory:incorrect_for_adamantite_tool, and the reference is optional. This ties the tiers to FTB Armory.[6][7]

Unverified The sources here include no guidebook, documentation or config files for this mod. Exact material stats, material traits, modifier lists and costs, and the XP needed per level are not covered. The Forge Table screen shows them in game.

How do you progress through Hephaestus Tools?

    4 parts

The sources here describe this mod's progression through its part recipes only. Each material you can cast has its own set of tool parts, and the amount of molten metal depends on the part, not on the metal.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no quests that involve this mod, so no quest-book route can be described. Where Hephaestus Tools sits in the pack's quest book is not shown here.

Wood parts and the Forge Table

The mod's own stonecutting recipes cover the wood version of every part, for example the Pickaxe Head, the Tool Handle, the Adze Head and the Small Blade. The Forge Table (shown in game as the Forge Table) has its own crafting recipe.[2]

    Metal tiers: casting parts

The pack adds casting table recipes that turn molten metal into tool parts. Gold, stainless steel, adamant and awakened supremium each have a recipe for every one of the 12 parts. Molten gold comes under the hephaestus namespace, molten adamant under ftb, molten stainless steel under colossal_reactors (Colossal Reactors) and molten awakened supremium under mysticalagradditions (Mystical Agradditions).[2]

The cost in molten metal is the same for all of those materials. Only the part decides how much you need. Here is the breakdown.[2]

Here is one example of a pack casting recipe, so you can see how the site shows them.[2]

    Extra adze head materials

The adze head has more casting options than the other parts in what the sources spell out. Beyond the materials above, there are adze head recipes for molten adamantite, molten iridium, molten imperium and molten tough alloy, each at 180. The recipe dump counts many more casting recipes than it lists (for example 672 that use ftb fluids and 300 that use hephaestus fluids), so other parts may have further materials too.[2]

    Mining tier tags

The mod ships block tags for adamantite tools and aurichalcum tools. Both point at the adamantite tag from FTB Armory, and both mark that reference as not required.[6][7]

How does Hephaestus Tools work with other mods?

    3 parts

The clearest link between Hephaestus Tools and the rest of the pack is the casting table. The pack adds its own casting table recipes that turn molten metals from several other mods into Hephaestus Tools parts. If you want tool parts made from a metal you got somewhere else, this is where it happens.[2]

Casting parts from other mods' metals

Each of these recipes is a hephaestus:casting_table recipe added by the pack, and each one takes a single molten metal and gives you a single tool part. The molten metals come from a mix of sources, listed below.[2]

    How much each part costs

The amount depends on the part, not on the metal. Wherever a part is listed for a metal, the number is the same, so you can plan your fluid by part type.[2]

Here are two examples, one from Colossal Reactors and one from Mystical Agradditions.[2]

    Hammer HeadAdded by the pack

    Casting Table (hephaestus)

    Recipe id: ftb:hephaestus_materials/part_casting/stainless_steel/hammer_head

    Recipe id: ftb:hephaestus_materials/part_casting/awakened_supremium/tool_handle

A Tool Handle cast from Mystical Agradditions awakened supremium.

Hephaestus Tools also has a data-level link to FTB Armory. Its adamantite tool and aurichalcum tool block tags both point at a tag called incorrect_for_adamantite_tool from the ftbarmory namespace. The entry is marked as not required.[6][7]
