What is Hephaestus Tools?
Hephaestus Tools is part of this pack, and the version you get here is 1.0.5. It ships as the file hephaestus_tools-neoforge-26.1.2-1.0.5.jar, and it was already in the pack by version 1.0.2.[1]
That is all the sources for this guide confirm. They do not describe the mod's tools, recipes or configs, so I'm not guessing at them here. Check back for the later sections once there is more to go on.[1]
How do you get started with Hephaestus Tools?
5 parts
Hephaestus Tools builds tools out of separate parts, so you start with a workstation and then make your first parts. Here is the order I'd go in.[2][3]
First, make the Forge Table
Start with the Forge Table, which is shown in game as the Forge Table. It is a shaped crafting recipe from the mod itself.[2][3]

Next, make a Pattern
Next, craft a Pattern. The Part Builder screen tells you to select a pattern and insert the material, so the pattern is how you choose which part you want.[2][3]

Then, get your first parts from wood
You can start with the wood version of each part. The mod gives every part a wood recipe made at a stonecutter, for example the Pickaxe Head and the Tool Binding. There are 12 of these stonecutting recipes in total.[2]

A wood Tool Binding, also made by stonecutting.
After that, move on to cast metal parts
Once you have molten metal, the pack adds casting table recipes that turn it into the same parts. Among the recipes shown here are gold, adamant, stainless steel (from Colossal Reactors) and awakened supremium (from Mystical Agradditions). The Part Builder screen also reminds you that metals are cast in the Foundry (Hephaestus).[2][3]
The amount of molten metal depends on the part, and it is the same for gold, adamant, stainless steel and awakened supremium. A Tool Binding takes 90. The Pickaxe Head, Adze Head, Small Axe Head and Small Blade each take 180. The Large Plate takes 360. The Broad Axe Head, Hammer Head and Large Blade each take 720.[2]

Finally, assemble and improve
The tool screen has Build, Modify and Mastery tabs. Insert the matching parts to preview a tool, then assemble it. To repair, insert a damaged tool plus a raw material matching its head, which restores 25% durability. You can also insert a tool part to swap it, and the old part is returned to you.[3]
How does Hephaestus Tools work?
6 parts
Hephaestus Tools is a tool-building system. You make tool parts, assemble them into a tool, then repair, upgrade and specialise that tool. This section covers how that flow works in this pack, as far as the mod's own text and the pack's recipes show it. Keep in mind that the build screen's progression preview reads "XP: coming soon", and the mod's text also has an "Available in a future stage" label, so some features may not be finished yet.[2][3]
Making parts
Parts are made at the Part Builder. Its screen tells you to select a pattern and insert the material, and it rejects materials that are not valid for the chosen part. You craft the Pattern yourself.[2][3]

The Part Builder also points out that metals are not handled there. They are cast in the Foundry from Hephaestus Forge. The pack adds casting table recipes that turn molten metal straight into finished heads and blades. The recipes written out in the dump use molten adamant, molten gold, molten awakened supremium and molten stainless steel.[2][3]
The amount of molten metal depends on the part. An Adze Head takes 180 units of fluid. A Broad Axe Head, a Hammer Head and a Large Blade each take 720.[2]

There are also stonecutting recipes for wood versions of the adze head, broad axe head and hammer head. Wood is the one material that does not go through the Foundry.[2]

The Forge Table
The Forge Table is the Forge Table. It has its own crafting recipe, and when you break it, it drops itself.[2][4]

The tool screen has three tabs: Build, Modify and Mastery. On the Build tab you pick a tool layout from the buttons on the left, insert the matching parts and assemble. If parts are missing, the screen tells you to insert all matching parts, or a damaged tool and its repair material. The only part of this screen that is explicitly marked as unfinished is the XP progression preview, which reads "XP: coming soon".[3]
Tool layouts
- Hand Axe: a small axe for chopping wood.[3]
- Broad Axe: a large axe that chops a 3x3 area. The pack also adds it to the minecraft:axes item tag.[3][5]
- Pickaxe: a small pickaxe for mining stone and ores.[3]
- Sledge Hammer: a large hammer that mines a 3x3 area.[3]
- Vein Hammer: a hammer that mines entire ore veins.[3]
- Excavator: a large shovel that digs a 3x3 area.[3]
- Mattock: a combination axe and shovel.[3]
- Kama: a small hoe for harvesting crops.[3]
- Scythe: a large hoe that harvests a 3x3 area.[3]
- Sword: a balanced sword for melee combat.[3]
- Dagger: a fast small blade for quick strikes.[3]
- Cleaver: a large two-handed sword.[3]
Repairing and swapping parts
Insert a tool together with a raw material that matches its head to repair 25% of its durability. Or insert a tool part to swap it in, and the old part is returned to you.[3]
Modifiers
The Modify tab applies modifiers using your materials and the tool's free slots. The slot rule is one slot per modifier type, and upgrading a modifier's level keeps the same slot. You can filter the list to show only modifiers you can apply right now.[3]
These are the modifier descriptions that appear in the mod's text. The sources do not say whether each one is active in this pack yet, given the screen's "coming soon" and "future stage" labels:[3]
- Reinforced: +250 durability per level.[3]
- Haste: +4 mining speed per level.[3]
- Sharpness: +1 attack damage per level.[3]
- Fortune: +1 Fortune per level.[3]
- Looting: +1 Looting per level.[3]
- Silk Touch: harvests blocks intact.[3]
- Flame: burns targets on hit.[3]
- Sweeping: hits nearby enemies.[3]
Mastery paths
The Mastery tab lets you pick a mastery path for a tool. The screen labels the levels Lv 10 / 20 / 30, and some masteries require a minimum tool level before you can apply them. The choice is permanent: once you select a mastery, that tool cannot change paths.[3]
The mod's text describes many masteries. For mining tools, Chain Reaction connects nearby veins of the same ore, Clean Dig filters area mining to preserve ores and special blocks, and Groundworker digs soil, sand, gravel and clay in an area. For farming tools, Harvest Sweep harvests mature crops in an area and Homesteader plants crops using seeds from your inventory. For weapons, Executioner adds extra damage against low-health enemies and Backstab adds extra damage when you attack from behind.[3]
How do you progress through Hephaestus Tools?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide
The sources here describe this mod's progression through its part recipes only. Each material you can cast has its own set of tool parts, and the amount of molten metal depends on the part, not on the metal.[6]
Unverified The sources here show no quests that involve this mod, so no quest-book route can be described. Where Hephaestus Tools sits in the pack's quest book is not shown here.
Wood parts and the Forge Table
The mod's own stonecutting recipes cover the wood version of every part, for example the Pickaxe Head, the Tool Handle, the Adze Head and the Small Blade. The Forge Table (shown in game as the Forge Table) has its own crafting recipe.[6]

Metal tiers: casting parts
The pack adds casting table recipes that turn molten metal into tool parts. Gold, stainless steel, adamant and awakened supremium each have a recipe for every one of the 12 parts. Molten gold comes under the hephaestus namespace, molten adamant under ftb, molten stainless steel under colossal_reactors (Colossal Reactors) and molten awakened supremium under mysticalagradditions (Mystical Agradditions).[6]
The cost in molten metal is the same for all of those materials. Only the part decides how much you need. Here is the breakdown.[6]
- 90 molten metal: Tool Binding and Tool Handle.[6]
- 180 molten metal: Pickaxe Head, Adze Head, Small Axe Head and Small Blade.[6]
- 270 molten metal: Tough Binding and Tough Handle.[6]
- 360 molten metal: Large Plate.[6]
- 720 molten metal: Broad Axe Head, Hammer Head and Large Blade.[6]
Here is one example of a pack casting recipe, so you can see how the site shows them.[6]

Extra adze head materials
The adze head has more casting options than the other parts in what the sources spell out. Beyond the materials above, there are adze head recipes for molten adamantite, molten iridium, molten imperium and molten tough alloy, each at 180. The recipe dump counts many more casting recipes than it lists (for example 672 that use ftb fluids and 300 that use hephaestus fluids), so other parts may have further materials too.[6]

Mining tier tags
The mod ships block tags for adamantite tools and aurichalcum tools. Both point at the adamantite tag from FTB Armory, and both mark that reference as not required.[7][8]
How does Hephaestus Tools work with other mods?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide
The clearest link between Hephaestus Tools and the rest of the pack is the casting table. The pack adds its own casting table recipes that turn molten metals from several other mods into Hephaestus Tools parts. If you want tool parts made from a metal you got somewhere else, this is where it happens.[6]
Casting parts from other mods' metals
Each of these recipes is a hephaestus:casting_table recipe added by the pack, and each one takes a single molten metal and gives you a single tool part. The molten metals come from a mix of sources, listed below.[6]
- Colossal Reactors: Molten Stainless Steel and Molten Tough Alloy.[6]
- Mystical Agradditions: Molten Imperium and Molten Awakened Supremium.[6]
- The hephaestus namespace: Molten Gold and Molten Iridium.[6]
- The ftb namespace: ftb:molten_adamant and ftb:molten_adamantite.[6]
How much each part costs
The amount depends on the part, not on the metal. Wherever a part is listed for a metal, the number is the same, so you can plan your fluid by part type.[6]
- 90: Tool Binding and Tool Handle.[6]
- 180: Adze Head, Pickaxe Head, Small Axe Head and Small Blade.[6]
- 270: Tough Binding and Tough Handle.[6]
- 360: Large Plate.[6]
- 720: Broad Axe Head, Hammer Head and Large Blade.[6]
Here are two examples, one from Colossal Reactors and one from Mystical Agradditions.[6]

Link to FTB Armory
Hephaestus Tools also has a data-level link to FTB Armory. Its adamantite tool and aurichalcum tool block tags both point at a tag called incorrect_for_adamantite_tool from the ftbarmory namespace. The entry is marked as not required.[7][8]
