What is FrostBear?

This pack ships FrostBear at version 1.1.0, using the file frostbear-neoforge-26.1.2-1.1.0.jar. It is not a new addition either: it was already in the pack in version 1.0.2 or earlier.[1]

Unverified What FrostBear adds to the game is not shown by the sources here, and no in-jar guidebook was found for the mod. Check it in game rather than relying on this page for its features.

How do you get started with FrostBear?

3 parts

Welcome to FrostBear! This mod is small and focused, so your first steps are simple: the one item you craft is the Frostfang, and everything else revolves around the FrostBear itself.[2][3]

Step 1: Make the Frostfang

The Frostfang is the only FrostBear item with a crafting recipe in this pack's recipe dump, so it is your first goal. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[2]

Stick

The Glacial Core is used to craft and repair the Frostfang.

The Glacial Core is described as a frozen remnant of the FrostBear, which tells you the weapon is tied to the boss-style mob this mod adds. Keep one around, because the same item is also what repairs your Frostfang.[3]

Step 2: Learn what the Frostfang does

  • Hitting an enemy with it chills and freezes them.[3]
  • Right-click to erupt a wave of ice spikes.[3]

Step 3: Know the Frozen Heart

The mod also adds a Frozen Heart. When you consume it, you gain Heart of Winter for 2 minutes, and it also grants Regeneration II for 10 seconds. While the effect is active, nearby hostile mobs are slowed and frozen.[3]

Tip: Save the Frozen Heart for a tough fight. Its aura slows and freezes hostile mobs around you, and the Regeneration II helps you recover while you fight.[3]

How does FrostBear work?

4 parts

FrostBear is built around a single boss-style mob, the FrostBear, and the items it drops. The sources for this pack show no machines, multiblocks or power systems for it. What they do show is where the mob spawns, what it drops, and how those drops turn into a weapon and a buff.[3][4][5]

Where the FrostBear spawns

The mod adds the FrostBear to the spawn list of every biome in the snowy tag. The spawn entry has a weight of 3 and a group size of exactly 1, so you meet them one at a time.[4]

What it drops

The FrostBear's loot table has two pools, each rolled once. One pool holds the Frozen Heart and the other holds the Glacial Core. The loot table lists no conditions on either pool.[5]

Frozen Heart

The Frozen Heart is a consumable. Eating it gives you the Heart of Winter effect for 2 minutes, and nearby hostile mobs are slowed and frozen while it lasts. It also grants Regeneration II for 10 seconds.[3]

Glacial Core and Frostfang

The Glacial Core is described as a frozen remnant of the FrostBear. It is used to craft and to repair the Frostfang, and it is the only item in the Frostfang repair tag.[3][6]

The Frostfang chills and freezes the enemies it strikes. Right-click it to erupt a wave of ice spikes.[3]

How do you progress through FrostBear?

4 parts

FrostBear is a small mod, and the sources for this pack show a single short path rather than a ladder of tiers. It runs from finding the frost bear, to its drops, to the Frostfang and keeping that weapon repaired.[2][4][5][6]

Step 1: find the frost bear

The mod adds the frost bear to biomes in the c:is_snowy tag. Its spawn weight is 3, and it spawns alone (a minimum and maximum group size of 1). So head into a snowy biome and look for a lone bear.[4]

Step 2: take its drops

The frost bear's loot table has a pool for each of its drops, and each pool rolls 1 time. One pool gives Frozen Heart and the other gives Glacial Core.[5]

Step 3: the Frostfang

Frostfang is made with a crafting recipe from the mod itself. Here is the in-pack recipe, rendered straight from the pack.[2]

Keeping it repaired

Glacial Core is the repair material for the Frostfang, through the mod's repairs_frostfang item tag. That makes the bear's drop useful again later, so keep the core rather than tossing it.[6]
