What is Flopper?

Flopper is part of this pack at version 1.1.9, shipped as the file flopper-26.1.2-neoforge-1.1.9.jar. It was first included in version 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]

How do you get started with Flopper?

3 parts

The Flopper from Flopper is the only item you need to know about. It's a hopper for transferring fluids, so this section is short: craft one and learn how the pack has it set up.[2]

Step 1: Craft the Flopper

The pack has changed the Flopper recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Use the recipe below, which is exactly what the pack uses.[3]

Step 2: Know what it does in this pack

The pack's config lets a Flopper pull fluids from other tanks and push fluids into them. It can also pull fluids from the world and push them into the world. These are controlled by machine.flopper.pullFluidsWorld and machine.flopper.pushFluidsWorld, and both are set to true here.[4]

Right-click a Flopper with an empty hand and you get a status message showing what's inside it, because machine.flopper.showContentsStatusMessageOnClick is true. The fluid it holds is also rendered, thanks to machine.flopper.renderFluid.[4]

The numbers to keep in mind

Tip: Placing and picking up fluids in the world triggers neighbour-change events and plays sounds in this pack. These are controlled by machine.flopper.worldPullPushNeighbourEvents and machine.flopper.worldPullPushSounds, and both are set to true.[4]

How does Flopper work?

5 parts

The Flopper is a hopper for fluids. The mod describes it that way itself, and everything below comes from the mod's own text and the pack's config for it.[2]

What it stores and how fast it moves fluid

In this pack a Flopper holds up to 5,000 mB, set by machine.flopper.capacityMb. It can pull fluid out of other tanks at a rate of 100 (machine.flopper.pullFluidRate) and push fluid into other tanks at a rate of 100 as well (machine.flopper.pushFluidRate).[4]

After it interacts with tanks, a Flopper sleeps for 8 ticks, set by machine.flopper.workCooldown. This cooldown limits how often it works.[4]

Working with fluids in the world

The Flopper can also deal with fluids in the world, not only with tanks. In this pack both directions are on: it can pull fluids from the world (machine.flopper.pullFluidsWorld) and push fluids into the world (machine.flopper.pushFluidsWorld).[4]

After it picks up or places a fluid in the world, it sleeps for 20 ticks (machine.flopper.workWorldCooldown). This is a separate setting from the cooldown it uses after working with tanks.[4]

Seeing what is inside

The contained fluid is rendered on the block (machine.flopper.renderFluid is true). If you right-click a Flopper with an empty hand, you get a status message showing its contents (machine.flopper.showContentsStatusMessageOnClick is true).[4]

Breaking it

The block's loot table drops the Flopper itself, with the standard condition that the block survives an explosion.[5]

How do you progress through Flopper?

2 parts

Flopper doesn't have tiers. The sources for this pack show a single item, Flopper, so there is no ladder of upgrades to climb.[3][5]

Getting a Flopper

The pack has its own version of the Flopper crafting recipe: it is a shaped crafting recipe that the pack changed. Use the recipe below rather than anything you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

Picking it back up

When you break a placed Flopper block, its loot table gives you one Flopper back. That drop has the survives-explosion condition, so an explosion can destroy the block without it dropping anything.[5]

Which Flopper config options matter?

4 parts

Flopper's config file in this pack is config/flopper-common.toml, and all of its options sit under the machine.flopper group. Below are the values this pack sets. The mod's defaults aren't shown in the sources here, so I can't say which of these the pack changed.[4]

Working with the world

Both world options are on in this pack. machine.flopper.pullFluidsWorld is true, so fluids can be pulled from the world. machine.flopper.pushFluidsWorld is true, so fluids can be pushed into the world.[4]

There are also extra options for those world interactions, and both are true here. machine.flopper.worldPullPushNeighbourEvents triggers neighbour-change events when fluids are placed or picked up. machine.flopper.worldPullPushSounds plays sounds when that happens.[4]

Display options

Tip: The right-click status message is a quick way to check what a Flopper is holding without needing any other item in your hand.[4]
