What is Easy NPC?

Easy NPC is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 7.14.0 of it, in the file easy_npc-neoforge-26.1.2-7.14.0.jar.[1]

It has been in the pack for a while: it was already included in version 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition to 1.1.0.[1]

How do you get started with Easy NPC?

2 parts

Easy NPC adds custom NPCs to the world. The sources I have for this pack only cover its names and screen text, so this section stays short and sticks to what they show.[2]

What the mod gives you

The mod has several spawner items named EasyNPC Single Spawner, EasyNPC Group Spawner, EasyNPC World Spawner, EasyNPC Default Spawner and EasyNPC Boss Spawner. It also has an item called Move EasyNPC, and the preset items NPC Preset and Empty NPC Preset.[2]

NPCs also come as spawn eggs, and there are many NPC types to pick from. Some are familiar mobs like Villager, Wandering Trader, Zombie and Iron Golem. Others are Humanoid and Humanoid (slim), plus special types such as Doppler, Fairy, Orc and Easy Model NPC.[2]

Presets and editing

If you try to edit an NPC you aren't allowed to change, the mod tells you that you don't have permission to edit it. When you export an NPC as a preset, the screen explains that "Import" restores the original NPC, while "Spawn New" and the preset item create a copy.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show how to obtain Easy NPC items in this pack, and they contain no in-pack recipe, quest or config for the mod. Check in game, for example in the recipe viewer, before planning around any of them. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Easy NPC work?

7 parts

Easy NPC is not a machine mod: the sources show no power, fluid or item-pipe side to it. What it gives you is NPC entities, spawners that place them, and hooks that this pack's scripts use for its shopkeepers. This section covers how those pieces work.[2][3][4]

Spawners

Easy NPC has several spawner items, and each one has a short tooltip that tells you what it is for.[2]

  • EasyNPC Single Spawner spawns a single NPC.[2]
  • EasyNPC Group Spawner spawns a group of NPCs.[2]
  • EasyNPC World Spawner is a group spawner that counts its preset population across the whole world, meaning all dimensions.[2]
  • EasyNPC Default Spawner spawns a default NPC.[2]
  • EasyNPC Boss Spawner is a special spawner for spawning a boss NPC.[2]

NPC types and spawn eggs

Each NPC type has its own spawn egg. The list includes Humanoid, Humanoid (slim), Villager, Wandering Trader, Iron Golem, Piglin, Allay, Fairy, Orc and many vanilla-style mobs. There are also [EF] variants with their own Epic Fight spawn eggs.[2]

Some types are more flexible than the rest. Doppler is a shape-shifting NPC that can adopt any entity model. Cobblemon is an NPC that can take the form of any Cobblemon species. Easy Model NPC can take the form of any Easy Model Entities model.[2]

Presets, moving and editing

An NPC can be exported as an NPC Preset item (there is also an Empty NPC Preset item). In the preset screen, "Import" restores the original NPC, while "Spawn New" and using the preset item both create a copy.[2]

There is also a Move EasyNPC item. If you try to edit an NPC you are not allowed to, you get a message saying you don't have permission. If the NPC no longer exists, you get a message saying it could not be found.[2]

How this pack uses NPCs

The pack's scripts treat the Humanoid NPC (easy_npc:humanoid) as its shopkeeper body. The broker greetings and the wandering trader event show how it works.[3][4]

Broker greetings

Humanoid NPCs tagged as the early, mid or late broker keepers greet you with a chat bubble. The script checks every 5 ticks. You must be within 8 blocks of the NPC, be looking almost straight at it, and have line of sight. The bubble lasts 200 ticks.[3]

Each broker greets you only once. The script saves a flag on the player for each broker keeper, and once every flag is set the check stops. While a bubble is showing, you get no further greeting until it ends.[3]

The wandering trader event

The pack adds an event called Wandering Trader. It spawns a roaming Easy NPC merchant wired to an FTB Echoes shop. The event has a 0.25 chance and places the merchant between 2 and 20 blocks from you, on an air block with a block below it. Usually you get the Wandering Merchant, with a 10% chance of the Black Market instead.[4]

  • Only one event merchant can exist within 128 blocks. If one is already close, the spawn counts as a failure, and there is a 0.5 chance the event system rolls again.[4]
  • The script scans merchants every 100 ticks. A merchant ages while it is not leashed. Once it reaches 48,000 ticks old and no player is within 6 blocks, it disappears in a puff of particles.[4]
  • A leashed merchant has its age reset to 0, so leading one around keeps it from despawning.[4]
  • If you kill the Wandering Merchant, you get the protanopia effect from ColorBlindness for 20 * 30 ticks, plus a red message.[4]
Tip: Trade with an event merchant before it ages out. It will not despawn while a player is within 6 blocks of it, and a leash keeps it from aging at all.[4]

Unverified What each shopkeeper actually sells is defined in the pack script kubejs/server_scripts/systems/echoes/shop_keepers.js. The sources here do not show that file, so the stock and prices are not covered.

Weapon tags

The mod groups weapons into item tags: a melee weapon tag split into axe and sword, plus bow and crossbow tags for ranged weapons. In this pack the axe tag is empty.[5][6][7][8]

  • Sword tag: it lists only optional entries from other mods, so each one only counts if that mod is present.[9]
  • Bow tag: Bow plus optional entries from other mods.[7]
  • Crossbow tag: Crossbow plus optional entries from other mods.[8]

The mod's illager, skeleton and zombie entity tags are empty in its jar.[10][11][12]

How do you progress through Easy NPC?

2 parts

Here is the honest picture for Easy NPC in this pack: the sources I have show no tier ladder or upgrade path for it. What they do show is that the pack uses the mod's humanoid NPCs as shopkeepers, driven by the pack's own KubeJS scripts. So instead of tiers, this section covers the NPC roles you can run into as you play.[3][4]

Broker NPCs: early, mid and late

The pack's greeting script defines broker shopkeepers named broker_early, broker_mid and broker_late. Each has its own chat line. This is the closest thing the sources show to a progression split for the mod, and it only covers the greetings, not what the brokers sell.[3]

  • Walk within 8 blocks of a broker and look straight at it with a clear line of sight, and it shows you a speech bubble for 200 ticks.[3]
  • Each broker greets you only once per player. After you have seen every one of them, the script stops checking.[3]
  • Only Easy NPC humanoid entities carrying the matching broker tag take part.[3]

The Wandering Trader event

The pack's event system can spawn a roaming Easy NPC merchant wired to an FTB Echoes shop. The event has a chance of 0.25. Most of the time you get the Wandering Merchant, and there is a 10% chance of the Black Market instead.[4]

  • Only one event merchant can exist within 128 blocks of the spawn spot. If one is already there, the event counts as a failure.[4]
  • A merchant lasts 48,000 ticks. After that it vanishes in a puff of particles, but only if no player is within 6 blocks.[4]
  • A leashed merchant does not age, so a leash keeps it around.[4]
  • Spawning the Black Market grants you an advancement called no_questions_asked and sends you a message with its coordinates.[4]
Watch out: Don't kill the Wandering Merchant. If a player does, they get the protanopia effect from ColorBlindness for 30 seconds and a red message in chat.[4]

Unverified Crafting recipes and quest chapters for Easy NPC are not shown in the sources here, so I can't describe any tier-by-tier recipe path or quest order for it. Weapon and entity type tags used by the mod live in data files that are also not shown.
