What is Dungeons and Taverns Ancient City Overhaul?

3 parts

Dungeons and Taverns Ancient City Overhaul reworks the Ancient City structure you find in the deep dark. It is a standalone splinter of the Dungeons and Taverns series, so it does not need the main Dungeons and Taverns mod. The main mod also does not include these changes.[1]

This pack ships version 3.3 of the mod. It has been in the pack since 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

What changes in the city

  • The main walls are slimmer and taller, and slim roads are added. The Deepslate Cobblestone ring structures are removed.[1]
  • New parts: several smaller houses, smaller versions of the existing city parts, a 2nd ice box structure, 2 amethyst box structures, small road lanterns and alarm towers.[1]
  • Structure parts get rubble with archaeology loot tables, and there are soul fire bonfires on the pillars.[1]
  • The city center statue holds 3 chests.[1]

Loot changes

The loot table now includes iron ingots and nuggets, gold ingots and nuggets, and a rare chance for diamonds. All iron and diamond tools and armor can now turn up, not just hoes and pants, though hoes and pants are still the most common finds. Armor trims are rarer relative to the number of chests in the whole city.[1]

Quest book placement

Unverified The sources here do not show a quest chapter, group or position for this mod in the pack's quest book, and they do not show whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the quest book in game for any mention.

How do you get started with Dungeons and Taverns Ancient City Overhaul?

2 parts

Good news first: Dungeons and Taverns Ancient City Overhaul is a world generation mod, so there is nothing you need to craft before you get the most out of it. Your first steps are about knowing what changed in the Ancient City and what to look for when you find one.[1]

Unverified The sources here show no recipes, quests or config files for this mod in the pack, so there is no crafting order to follow. If you want to check for anything pack-specific, look in the quest book and the pack's config folder yourself.

What the overhaul changes

This is a standalone splinter of the Dungeons and Taverns series. It does not require the main Dungeons and Taverns mod, and the main mod does not include these features.[1]

  • The main walls become slimmer and taller, and slim roads and small road lanterns are added.[1]
  • The Deepslate Cobblestone ring structures are removed.[1]
  • You will find several smaller houses and smaller versions of the current city parts.[1]
  • New structures include a 2nd ice box structure, 2 amethyst box structures and alarm towers.[1]
  • The city center statue now holds 3 chests, and the pillars get soul fire bonfires.[1]
  • Structure parts get rubble, and it uses archaeology loot tables.[1]

What to expect from the loot

The loot table is overhauled, so a city trip can now give you early metal. Iron ingots and nuggets and gold ingots and nuggets are added, and there is a rare chance for diamonds.[1]

All iron and diamond tools and armor can now be found, instead of only hoes and pants. Hoes and pants are still the most common finds. Armor trims are made more rare relative to the number of chests in the whole city, so do not count on one.[1]

Tip: Check every chest you pass, including the 3 in the city center statue. The loot overhaul spreads iron, gold and the occasional diamond across the whole city.[1]

How does Dungeons and Taverns Ancient City Overhaul work?

3 parts

Good news and a heads-up. Dungeons and Taverns Ancient City Overhaul is a structure and loot mod, and the project description only lists changes to how the Ancient City looks and what you find in it. There is no machine, power, fluid or automation system described for it, so this section covers what the mod does to the city instead.[1]

It is a standalone splinter of the Dungeons and Taverns series. It does not require the main Dungeons and Taverns mod, and the main mod does not include these features.[1]

Changes to the city layout

  • The main walls are slimmer and taller.[1]

  • All structure parts with archaeology loot tables get what the project page calls rumble.[1]

New buildings and details

  • Several smaller houses, plus smaller versions of the current city parts.[1]
  • A 2nd ice box structure and 2 amethyst box structures.[1]
  • Small road lanterns and alarm towers.[1]
  • Soul fire bonfires on the pillars.[1]
  • 3 chests in the city center statue, so check it when you reach the middle of the city.[1]

What changed in Dungeons and Taverns Ancient City Overhaul between versions?

1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Dungeons and Taverns Ancient City Overhaul version 3.3. The mod was already in the pack as of 1.0.2 or earlier, so this is the release you are playing with.[2]

Version 3.3 changes

Here is what the mod's own changelog lists for 3.3. These are the mod's changes, and the sources here do not show any pack-specific edits on top of them.[3]

  • The 3 alarm tower types were overhauled into larger, more spacious structures. That makes them rarer, and they are no longer hidden between 2 buildings.[3]
  • Those 3 alarm towers now have a chest, so they are actually worth interacting with.[3]
  • The Ancient City Overhaul loot table now rolls 2 times instead of 4. With so many chests around, the loot was reduced to match. It can still roll the vanilla loot tables.[3]
  • Small houses now have a 50% chance to have no chest inside. Other buildings are unaffected.[3]
  • The Secret Villager Trade unlock no longer needs Dungeons and Taverns to work, and it now uses the datadriven trade system. The roll is a random first trade, and it now requires a shrieker.[3]
Tip: Because small houses can now be empty, check the alarm towers for loot. They are larger and rarer than before, but they now come with a chest.[3]

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as mr_dungeons_andtavernsancientcityoverhaul, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
