What is Dank Storage?

Dank Storage is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships it as the NeoForge build in the file dankstorage-neoforge-26.1.2-0.jar, and the list gives its version as 0.[1]

It has been in the pack since FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]

How do you get started with Dank Storage?

3 parts

Dank Storage in this pack comes in seven tiers, from Dank 1 up to Dank 7. There is also a Dock and a set of upgrade items that run from 1 to 2 to 6 to 7. Here is the order I would make things in.[2][3]

Step 1: Make a Dank 1

Start with the first tier. This is the recipe the pack uses:[2]

any coalany coalany coal

Recipe id: dankstorage:dank_1

The in-pack recipe for the first tier.

Keep your expectations in check. This pack changed the stack limit of the first dank to 8 in server.stacklimit1, while the mod default is 256.[4]

Step 2: Craft the Dock

Recipe id: dankstorage:dock

The Dock is its own block, with its own recipe.

Step 3: Move up the tiers

When the first tier feels cramped, you can craft the next one directly, or make an upgrade item. Here are both recipes for the step from tier 1 to tier 2:[2]

The matching upgrade item. The other upgrades up to 6 to 7 follow the same naming.

The pack changed the stack limit of every tier. Here is what each one is set to, next to the mod default:[4]

Watch out: If you read another guide or watch an older video about Dank Storage, ignore the capacity numbers there. In this pack every tier is capped far below the mod default.[4]

How does Dank Storage work?

6 parts

Dank Storage is built around seven portable storage items, Dank 1 up to Dank 7. The mod groups all seven under one item tag. There's also a Dock block. The sources here don't spell out how the Dock works, so I'm not going to guess.[3][5]

Tiers and the pack's stack limits

Each tier has its own stack limit, set in server.stacklimit1 through server.stacklimit7. This is the big thing to know: the pack changed every one of them, and the new values are far lower than the mod's defaults. Plan around these numbers, not what you may remember from other packs.[4]

  • Dank 1: stack limit 8 in the pack (mod default 256).[4]
  • Dank 2: stack limit 16 in the pack (mod default 1,024).[4]
  • Dank 3: stack limit 24 in the pack (mod default 4,096).[4]
  • Dank 4: stack limit 64 in the pack (mod default 16,384).[4]
  • Dank 5: stack limit 128 in the pack (mod default 65,536).[4]
  • Dank 6: stack limit 256 in the pack (mod default 262,144).[4]
  • Dank 7: stack limit 512 in the pack (mod default 2,147,483,647).[4]
Watch out: The top tier, Dank 7, has a stack limit of 512 in this pack, not the mod's default of 2,147,483,647. Don't expect near-infinite storage from any tier here.[4]

Crafting the tiers

The pack has a crafting recipe for every Dank tier and for the Dock. It also has six upgrade items named 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 5, 5 to 6 and 6 to 7. Here are the first Dank and the Dock:[2][3]

Red Print and frequencies

The Red Print copies a frequency to other danks. Its tooltip says it only works on the same tier, so you can't use it to link a Dank 2 to a Dank 5.[3]

Sorting and controls

The mod offers four sorting types. Ascending sorts from the least to the greatest number of items, and descending does the reverse. Mod id sorts by mod id and then by registry name. Registry name sorts alphabetically by registry name, leaving out the mod ids.[3]

Dank Storage also adds its own keybind category with four bindings: Construction Mode, Lock Slot, Toggle Mode and Pickup Mode. You can rebind them in the controls menu.[3]

Conversion tags

The option [[config:config/dankstorage-server.toml#server.convertible tags]] lists the tags eligible for conversion. In this pack it holds a long list of ingot tags, from c:ingots/iron and c:ingots/copper to modded alloys, plus the gem tags c:gems/amethyst, c:gems/peridot and c:gems/ruby.[4]

Item tags

The mod's jar ships three item tags. dank_storages holds all seven Dank items. blacklisted_storage is empty. unstackable lists only the vanilla bundle.[5][6][7]

How do you progress through Dank Storage?

3 parts

Dank Storage in this pack is a simple ladder of seven portable storage tiers, from Dank 1 up to Dank 7. You move up the ladder with upgrade items, one for each step. The sources I have for this pack show the items and their recipes, but not the capacity of each tier, so I won't quote any storage numbers here.[2][5]

The seven tiers

Upgrade items

There are six upgrade items, one per step: 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 5, 5 to 6 and 6 to 7. Each is named after the two tiers it connects, so you can see at a glance which one you need next.[2]

The pack also adds the Dock, which has its own recipe alongside the tiers.[2]

Here are the in-pack recipes, starting with the seven storage tiers.[2]

Which Dank Storage config options matter?

3 parts

Dank Storage has two config files, and the server one is where this pack made its big changes. The client file is just display settings, and this pack leaves those at the mod defaults.[4][8]

Stack limits (server config)

The pack changed the stack limit of all seven dank storage tiers, and every one is far lower than the mod default. Here is what each option is set to in this pack, with the mod default for comparison.[4]

Watch out: If you know Dank Storage from other packs, don't expect the default limits here. Every tier's stack limit is changed in this pack, and each option accepts any value above 1.[4]

Convertible tags

[[config:config/dankstorage-server.toml#server.convertible tags]] is the list of tags eligible for conversion, written as resource locations such as 'c:ingots/iron'. In this pack the list covers a long run of metal and alloy ingot tags, from copper, iron and gold to modded alloys, plus three gem tags: c:gems/amethyst, c:gems/peridot and c:gems/ruby.[4]

Client display options

client.preview is true in this pack. It controls whether the preview of the item in the dank is shown, and the option's own comment says to disable it if you have OptiFine.[8]

  • client.preview_x: -140, the same as the mod default (range -10,000 to 10,000). This is the X position of the preview.[8]
  • client.preview_y: -25, the same as the mod default (range -10,000 to 10,000). This is the Y position of the preview.[8]
  • client.text_size: 0.5, the same as the mod default (range 0.0 to 1.0). This is the size of the item text.[8]
Tip: If the preview sits awkwardly on your screen, nudge the preview_x and preview_y values rather than turning the preview off.[8]
