What is Compressium?

This pack ships Compressium version 26.1.2.1, using the file compressium-26.1.2.1.jar. It was already in the pack by version 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition in 1.1.0.[1]

How do you get started with Compressium?

1 part

Compressium adds compressed versions of common blocks, and each one comes in tiers from 1x up to 9x. In the pack you will see names like Compressed Andesite (1x) and Compressed Andesite (9x), and the same tier pattern for calcite, clay, coal and more.[2]

Everything in this mod is crafted. The recipe dump counts 225 shaped recipes and 200 shapeless recipes that make Compressium items, and the ones shown for this mod are listed as mod recipes, so nothing here is a pack-specific change.[3]

Your first steps

  1. Start with the 1x tier of a block you want to compress. Each material has its own shaped "compact" recipe that makes its 1x item, for example Compressed Andesite (1x).[3]
  2. Move up one tier at a time. The 2x item has its own shaped recipe, and so does every tier after it.[3]
  3. If you compress too far, use the shapeless "uncraft" recipes. Each one gives you 9 items of the tier below.[3]

Crafting Shaped

9 × Andesite

Recipe id: compressium:andesite/compact/andesite_1

The compact recipe for the 1x tier, the entry point of the andesite chain.

Crafting Shaped

9 × Compressed Andesite (1x)

Recipe id: compressium:andesite/compact/andesite_2

The next step up: the compact recipe for the 2x tier.

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: compressium:andesite/uncraft/andesite_2

The uncraft recipe gives you 9 of the 1x item.

Clay, calcite and coal follow the same pattern, each with compact and uncraft recipes, so once you know how andesite works you know how the rest do. Cobbled deepslate shows uncraft recipes in the recipe dump, for example one that makes 9× Compressed Cobbled Deepslate (1x).[3]

How does Compressium work?

2 parts

Compressium is about stacking one material into ever denser blocks. In this pack each material comes in tiers from 1x up to 9x, for example Compressed Andesite (1x) up to Compressed Andesite (9x). The language file lists the same 1x to 9x ladder for materials such as calcite, clay, coal, cobblestone, copper, diamond, dirt, emerald, gold, iron, netherite and netherrack.[2]

Compacting and uncrafting

Every tier has a compact recipe, a shaped crafting recipe that makes that tier. Every tier above 1x also has an uncraft recipe, a shapeless crafting recipe that gives you 9 of the tier below. The uncraft recipe for andesite 2x, for example, returns 9 of Compressed Andesite (1x). The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[3]

Crafting Shaped

9 × Compressed Andesite (1x)

Recipe id: compressium:andesite/compact/andesite_2

The compact recipe for Compressed Andesite (2x).

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: compressium:andesite/uncraft/andesite_2

The uncraft recipe that turns it back into 9 of the 1x tier.

Calcite follows the same pattern: compact recipes for Compressed Calcite (1x) through Compressed Calcite (6x), and shapeless uncraft recipes going back down. The recipe dump counts 225 shaped and 200 shapeless recipes that make Compressium items, and every one of them has a different result.[3]

Placing and breaking

The block loot tables in the mod's jar are simple. Breaking a compressed block gives you that same compressed block back (one roll, with only the survives-explosion condition), so you can pick your stacks up again and move them around. The tables I can see for andesite, such as 1x and 9x, all follow this pattern.[4][5]

Everything the sources show for Compressium is plain blocks plus ordinary crafting recipes, so there is no machine, power or fluid system to set up. The only way to move between tiers is the compact and uncraft recipes above.[2][3]

How do you progress through Compressium?

2 parts

In this pack, Compressium is a ladder of compressed blocks. Each material has tiers from 1x up to 9x, and the recipe list shows this for andesite, calcite, clay, coal and cobbled deepslate. Cobblestone is in there too, with items such as Compressed Cobblestone (1x) and Compressed Cobblestone (5x).[3]

How the tiers chain together

Every tier has a shaped crafting recipe that makes it. From the 2x tier up, there is also a shapeless uncraft recipe that breaks it down again. For example, the uncraft recipe named andesite_2 gives you 9 Compressed Andesite (1x), and the one named andesite_9 gives you 9 Compressed Andesite (8x). So each step up the ladder is one tier higher, and each step down hands you 9 of the tier below.[3]

The recipe dump counts 225 shaped recipes and 200 shapeless recipes that make Compressium items. Each one has a different result, so there are a lot of tiers to climb across all the materials.[3]

Crafting Shaped

9 × Andesite

Recipe id: compressium:andesite/compact/andesite_1

The first rung: how Compressed Andesite (1x) is crafted.

Crafting Shaped

9 × Compressed Andesite (1x)

Recipe id: compressium:andesite/compact/andesite_2

The next rung up, Compressed Andesite (2x).

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: compressium:andesite/uncraft/andesite_2

Going back down: this uncraft recipe makes 9 Compressed Andesite (1x).

Breaking compressed blocks

Each compressed block drops itself when you break it, as long as it survives an explosion. The loot tables confirm this for these tiers:[4]

That means you can pick a placed tier back up without losing it. You only need the uncraft recipes when you want to go down a tier.[3][4]
