What is Animal Garden - Crocodile?

2 parts

Animal Garden - Crocodile adds crocodiles to your world, with the aim of making the swamp a bit more dangerous. The pack includes version 1.1.0 of the mod, built for NeoForge.[1][2]

How crocodiles behave

  • If a creature comes near, a crocodile can feel threatened after a while and might attack. It shows this by opening its mouth for a few seconds, so that is your cue to back off.[1]
  • They randomly decide whether to be on land or in water, and they come in 9 color variants.[1]
  • On land they will sometimes lie down to rest for a bit.[1]
  • You can breed them with meat and fish items. The mod uses a custom item tag for this, so the list of foods can be changed.[1]
  • A damaged crocodile will eat a nearby food item on the ground to win back some health. Feeding, resting and staying in water also restore a little health.[1]

Moss and scrubbing (version 1.1.0)

Since this pack uses version 1.1.0, you get the moss feature. If a crocodile stays in the water for a long time (10-20 minutes), moss or algae grows on its back until you clean it off. You can scrub it with a sponge or a brush.[1][2]

While you scrub, the crocodile also drops an item that got stuck on its back while it wandered the waters. The sponge is not destroyed by this.[1]

Tip: Spawn settings can be changed by editing the json files in the biome tags and biome modifier folders of the data, or with a resource pack. If you want crocodiles to turn up somewhere else, that is where to look.[1]

The project page says the mod requires AquariusLibs to be installed.[1]

How do you get started with Animal Garden - Crocodile?

2 parts

There is no crafting to do first with Animal Garden - Crocodile. It adds a creature, the Crocodile, to make the swamp a bit more dangerous. So your first steps are about meeting it safely and learning how it behaves.[1][3]

Your first steps

  1. Head to a swamp. That is the biome the mod is aimed at, so it's where you should look for crocodiles.[1]
  2. Keep your distance at first. When a creature gets close to a crocodile, it feels threatened after a while and might attack. The warning sign is the crocodile opening its mouth for a few seconds.[1]
  3. Watch how it moves. Crocodiles randomly decide whether they want to be on land or in water, and on land they sometimes lie down to rest. They come in 9 color variants, so you may spot a few different looks.[1]
  4. Try breeding them. Meat and fish items work, and the mod uses a custom item tag for this, so the list of accepted foods can be changed.[1]
Watch out: If a crocodile opens its mouth, back off. That is how it shows it feels threatened, and it might attack.[1]

Healing and spawn egg

A damaged crocodile restores some health by eating a nearby food item on the ground. Feeding, resting and staying in water also heal it a little. The mod also adds a Crocodile Spawn Egg.[1][3]

Unverified How often crocodiles spawn in this pack, and which biomes they use beyond the swamp, is not shown in the sources here. The mod's spawn settings live in its data files (biome tags and biome modifiers), so check those in the pack if you need the exact details.

How does Animal Garden - Crocodile work?

4 parts

Animal Garden - Crocodile adds crocodiles to the world, so there are no machines to build here. The mechanics are all about how the creature spawns, behaves, heals and gets cleaned. Here is how that works in this pack.[1][3]

Where crocodiles spawn

The mod adds crocodile spawns through a biome modifier. The spawn entry has a weight of 15 and a group size of exactly 1, so you meet them solo.[4]

The spawn is tied to a biome tag that lists the swamp and the mangrove swamp. That matches the mod's own description of making the swamp a more dangerous place.[1][4][5]

The mod's page says you can change spawn settings by editing the biome tag and biome modifier data files, or with a resource pack.[1]

Behaviour

  • Crocodiles come in 9 color variants.[1]
  • When a creature comes near, a crocodile may feel threatened after a while and attack. It shows this by opening its mouth for a few seconds, so treat that as your warning.[1]
  • They randomly decide whether to be on land or in water. On land they sometimes lie down to rest.[1]
  • The mod ships a block tag named move_to_blocks_on_land with short grass, short dry grass, tall dry grass, fern, sand and sandstone in it.[6][7]

Feeding, breeding and healing

You breed crocodiles with meat and fish items. The mod uses a custom item tag for this, so the list can be changed with data files. That tag contains beef, porkchop, chicken, cod, salmon, mutton and rabbit (raw and cooked versions of each), plus rotten flesh, tropical fish and pufferfish.[1][8][9]

A damaged crocodile that has a food item it can eat lying nearby on the ground will eat it to restore some health. Feeding, resting and staying in water also heal it a little.[1]

Moss and cleaning (version 1.1.0)

From version 1.1.0, a crocodile that stays in water for a long time (10 to 20 minutes) grows moss or algae on its back. It stays there until you clean it.[1]

You scrub it off with a Sponge or a Brush. Both are in the mod's cleaning items tag. While you scrub, the crocodile drops an item that got stuck on its back, and the sponge is not destroyed by using it.[1][10][11]

The mod also includes item tags named common, uncommon and rare item drops. These are the contents of each tag:[12][13][14][15][16][17]

Tip: Keep a sponge handy when you visit a swamp. It is not destroyed by scrubbing, so you can reuse it on every crocodile you clean.[1]

How do you progress through Animal Garden - Crocodile?

3 parts

The sources for Animal Garden - Crocodile in this pack show no tier ladder, so this section covers how you actually meet the mod in your world.[4]

Unverified The sources here show no quest and no crafting recipe tied to this mod, so there is no quest-by-quest or tier-by-tier path to describe. If you want to check, look through the pack's quest book yourself.

Where you find the crocodile

The mod adds the crocodile to the spawn lists of its own biome tag, which holds the swamp and the mangrove swamp. The spawn entry has a weight of 15 and always spawns a group of exactly 1.[4][5]

Drop rarity tiers

The closest thing to tiers is the set of item tags the mod ships for drops: common, uncommon and rare. Here is what sits in each.[12][13][14]

Other item tags

The mod also ships a food tag and a cleaning tag. The food tag lists raw and cooked beef, porkchop, chicken, cod, salmon, mutton and rabbit, plus Rotten Flesh, Tropical Fish and Pufferfish. The cleaning tag lists Brush and Sponge.[8][9][10][11]

What changed in Animal Garden - Crocodile between versions?

1 part

Animal Garden - Crocodile is at version 1.1.0 in FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0. It was already in the pack as of 1.0.2 or earlier, so this is the release you get here.[2]

1.1.0 changes

The mod's own changelog for 1.1.0 lists the following. The defaults below are the ones the mod's changelog gives.[18]

  • The crocodile's sounds were changed to mono.[18]
  • After 10-20 minutes in water, a crocodile can gain moss or algae on its back. You can clean it off to get a random item.[18]
  • A new config option lets you turn the moss and algae growth on or off. It is true by default.[18]
  • A new config option makes the crocodile tamable. It is false by default, so taming is off unless it is switched on.[18]

Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so the sources here do not show whether the pack changed any of these defaults. Check the mod's config file in your instance for the values actually in use.
