What is Animal Garden - Bull Shark?
2 parts
Animal Garden - Bull Shark adds one thing to the game: the bull shark, an aggressive underwater hunter. The pack includes version 1.1.1 of the mod, built for NeoForge. It needs AquariusLibs installed to run.[1][2]
Where you will meet it
Bull sharks spawn in warm oceans, lukewarm oceans and rivers. They are rare, but when one is around it will make you value your life a lot more. Once a shark has picked a target, it will not let go until it has taken a good bite.[1]
Hunger drives everything
Each shark has an invisible hunger bar. It takes 5 minutes to get fully hungry, and a new shark spawns with a random hunger value between 0 and 5 minutes, so you can run into a very hungry one straight away. You can restore its hunger by hand-feeding it, when it eats dropped meat or fish items in water, or when it bites someone. Each of those restores 30 seconds. Damaging a shark drops its hunger to 0 and sends it on a rampage.[1]
The shark switches between three behavior modes depending on how hungry it is:[1]
- Curious (slow speed, hunger above 3 minutes): it may bite someone close to it, which restores 30 seconds of hunger, and it will not continue the attack.[1]
- Hungry (normal speed, hunger at 3 minutes): it looks for the smallest target near it and bites it until its hunger is restored.[1]
- Aggressive (fast speed, hunger at 1 minute, or when it is attacked): it attacks everything by biting and slamming its target until its hunger is restored.[1]
A shark also recovers a bit of health whenever it bites something, so a long fight in the water favors it.[1]
How do you get started with Animal Garden - Bull Shark?
3 parts
Animal Garden - Bull Shark is different from most mods in this guide: the sources I have show no recipes for it, so there is nothing to craft first. It adds one creature, the Bull Shark, so "getting started" here is about knowing what you are swimming into. Everything below follows what the mod page describes.[1][3]
Where to find it
The mod page says the Bull Shark can be found in warm oceans, lukewarm oceans and rivers, and that it is rare. When one is around, the page promises it will make you treasure your life more.[1][3]
How it decides to attack
The shark has an invisible hunger bar that runs down over time, and it takes 5 minutes to become fully hungry. When one spawns, its starting hunger is a random value between 0 and 5 minutes, so you can run into a really hungry one straight away.[1]
- Curious (slow speed, hunger above 3 minutes): per the mod page, it sometimes bites someone near it, which restores 30 seconds of hunger, and it does not continue the attack.[1]
- Hungry (normal speed, hunger reaches 3 minutes): the mod page says it looks for the smallest target near it and bites until its hunger is restored.[1]
- Aggressive (fast speed, hunger reaches 1 minute): the mod page says that when it is very hungry or attacked, it looks for prey and attacks everything by biting and slamming until its hunger is restored.[1]
Staying safe
- Do not hit it. The mod page says damaging it drops its hunger to 0 and sends it on a rampage.[1]
- Get onto land. The mod page says it stops attacking when its prey is on the ground.[1]
- Drop meat or fish items in the water if you are not locked on yet. The mod page says it prefers items over living targets when searching for prey, so you may get a chance to escape, and that it restores hunger by eating dropped meat or fish.[1]
- Handfeeding also restores its hunger. The mod page says each feeding, bite or dropped meal restores 30 seconds.[1]
The mod page also says the mod requires AquariusLibs to be installed.[1]
Unverified The sources here show no recipes, quests or config files for this mod in the pack. If the pack changed the shark's spawn settings, that detail is not shown here.
How does Animal Garden - Bull Shark work?
4 parts
Animal Garden - Bull Shark has no machines, multiblocks or power systems. It adds one thing: an aggressive underwater creature, the bull shark. So the core mechanics here are about how the shark spawns, how its hunger works and how it picks its prey.[1][3]
Where it spawns
Bull sharks spawn in three biomes: river, warm ocean and lukewarm ocean. They are rare. The spawn entry in the mod's data has a weight of 5 and spawns exactly 1 shark at a time (minimum and maximum count are both 1).[1][4][5]
The mod also adds a Bull Shark Spawn Egg, which is handy if you want to meet one without hunting for it.[3]
The hidden hunger bar
Every bull shark has an invisible hunger bar. It gets hungry over time, and takes 5 minutes to become fully hungry. A freshly spawned shark starts with a random hunger value between 0 and 5 minutes, so you can run into one that is already very hungry.[1]
Three things restore hunger, each worth 30 seconds: handfeeding it, it eating dropped meat or fish items in the water, or it biting someone. Hitting the shark does the opposite. Damaging it sets its hunger to 0 and sends it on a rampage.[1]
Behavior modes
The shark switches between three behavior modes depending on its hunger. The mode decides what it does with its selected prey.[1]
- Curious: slow speed, used while hunger is above 3 minutes. It sometimes bites someone near it, which restores 30 seconds of hunger, and then it does not continue the attack.[1]
- Hungry: normal speed, starts when hunger reaches 3 minutes. It looks for the smallest target near it and bites it until its hunger is restored.[1]
- Aggressive: fast speed, starts when hunger reaches 1 minute, or when the shark is attacked. It attacks everything by biting and slamming its target until its hunger is restored.[1]
Targeting and escaping
When searching for prey, the shark prefers items over living targets. If it has not locked onto you yet, that gives you a chance to get away. It also stops attacking when its prey is on the ground. Each time it bites something it restores a bit of its own health, and it leaves a pool of blood behind.[1]
How do you progress through Animal Garden - Bull Shark?
1 part
The sources here only show how the bull shark from Animal Garden - Bull Shark enters the world, so this section covers where you can find it.[4][5]
Where the bull shark spawns
The mod adds the bull shark to river, warm ocean and lukewarm ocean biomes. Head for those waters if you want to meet one.[4][5]
- Biomes: minecraft:river, minecraft:warm_ocean and minecraft:lukewarm_ocean.[5]
- Spawn weight: 5.[4]
- Group size: always exactly 1, since both the minimum and maximum count are 1.[4]
The spawn is added through a NeoForge biome modifier that points at the mod's own biome list, so any biome in that list can host the bull shark.[4][5]
