What is Animal Garden -Alligator Gar?
3 parts
Animal Garden -Alligator Gar adds another apex predator to your world: the Alligator Gar, a big fish that lives in rivers. The pack includes version 1.0.0 of the mod, the NeoForge build.[1][2]
How the Alligator Gar behaves
- It is an opportunistic predator and scavenger that eats both live and dead prey.[1]
- It defends itself when attacked. By default it also sometimes goes after mobs around it, taking just a bite and then moving on.[1]
- It can restore its health by eating meat and fish items that are in the water.[1]
- It is not persistent by default, so it vanishes when it is out of sight. A name tag with a custom name stops that. It also cannot spawn within 24 blocks of another Alligator Gar.[1]
Drops and where it spawns
When it dies, the Alligator Gar drops a scale that arrows can use in place of flint. It also has a chance to drop bone meal and bone.[1]
You will find it in river and beach biomes.[1]
Options worth knowing
- Is persistent: off by default. If you turn it on, the mod page recommends lowering the spawn weight to 1 so the fish does not overspawn.[1]
- Attack only once: on by default, so a gar stops attacking its prey after the first attack.[1]
- Random attack chance: the higher the number, the less often it attacks.[1]
On Forge and NeoForge, the mod page says spawn settings are changed by editing the json files in the biome tags and biome modifier folders of the data folder, or through a resource pack. The values in the config files only apply to the Fabric version. The mod also requires AquariusLibs.[1]
Unverified Where the pack's quest book places this mod, and whether the ATM Star path uses it, is not shown by the sources here. That detail would live in the pack's quest book chapters.
How do you get started with Animal Garden -Alligator Gar?
4 parts
Animal Garden -Alligator Gar is a small mod with one job: it adds the Alligator Gar, an apex predator, to the rivers of your world. There is no crafting chain to climb, so getting started is about finding the fish and knowing what it does.[1]
First, find one
Head to river and beach biomes, that is where it spawns. It will not spawn within 24 blocks of another Alligator Gar, so you will not find them in a pile. It is also not persistent: it vanishes when it is out of sight, unless you gave it a custom name with a name tag.[1]
Respect the bite
It defends itself when attacked. By default it also sometimes attacks mobs around it, taking just one bite and then moving on. It can restore its own health by eating meat and fish items that are floating in the water.[1]
Collect the drops
When it dies, it drops its Alligator Gar Scale. It also has a chance to drop bone meal and bone.[1][3]
The mod's own description says the scale can be used as an arrow ingredient in place of flint. The sources here do not include an in-pack recipe for it, so check it in your recipe viewer before you count on it.[1]
Good to know
How does Animal Garden -Alligator Gar work?
4 parts
Alligator Gar doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling. It adds a single creature, the Animal Garden -Alligator Gar Alligator Gar, so the mechanics here are about how it spawns, how it behaves and what it drops.[1][3]
Where and how it spawns
The mod's spawn data adds the Alligator Gar through a biome modifier with a weight of 10, spawning in groups of exactly 1. The biomes come from a tag that lists the river and beach biomes.[4][5]
It can't spawn within a 24 block radius of another Alligator Gar. It isn't persistent by default, so it vanishes when it's out of sight. A name tag keeps it from disappearing.[1]
Behavior
The gar is described as an opportunistic predator and scavenger that eats both live and dead prey. It defends itself when attacked. By default it also sometimes attacks mobs around it, taking one bite and then moving on.[1]
It can restore its health by eating meat and fish items that are in the water. The mod's food tag covers these items:[1][6][7]
- Raw and cooked beef, porkchop, chicken, mutton and rabbit: Beef, Cooked Beef, Porkchop, Cooked Porkchop, Chicken, Cooked Chicken, Mutton, Cooked Mutton, Rabbit, Cooked Rabbit.[7]
- Fish: Cod, Cooked Cod, Salmon, Cooked Salmon, Tropical Fish and Pufferfish.[7]
- Rotten Flesh is on the list too.[7]
Drops
The loot table has separate pools. One drops a single Alligator Gar Scale. Another drops Bone Meal with a 0.5 chance, and another drops Bone with a 0.25 chance.[8]
Tuning its behavior
The mod page lists these options: whether the gar is persistent, whether it attacks only once, and a random attack chance where a higher number means it attacks less often. It also says that on Forge and NeoForge, spawn settings can only be changed by editing the biome tag and biome modifier data files, or through a resource pack. The mod's config values only apply to the Fabric version.[1]
Unverified The sources here include no config files for this mod in the pack, so the values the pack uses for persistence, attack-only-once and the random attack chance are not shown. The defaults on the mod page may not be the pack's settings.
How do you progress through Animal Garden -Alligator Gar?
2 parts
This section is short, because Animal Garden -Alligator Gar adds a creature to find rather than a tech or gear tier to climb. What the sources do show is where the alligator gar spawns and what it drops.[4][8]
Finding the alligator gar
The mod adds a spawn for the alligator gar to the river and beach biomes. It spawns with a weight of 10, in groups of exactly 1, so expect to meet them one at a time.[4][5]
What it drops
- Alligator Gar Scale: the mod's own drop, with a set count of 1.[8]
- Bone Meal: dropped on a random chance of 0.5.[8]
- Bone: dropped on a random chance of 0.25.[8]
Unverified Whether this mod is tied into the pack's progression is told in the pack's quest book and recipe data. The sources here show no quest chapter and no crafting tier for it, so no tier path or recipe for the scale is confirmed.
